I know this is going to be highly contested by many of you, but I'm just offering a different opinion.
While those parents in your examples are in the wrong, I just want to throw it out there that not every kid hates it. Obviously no kid is a fan of getting yelled at for underachieving but if you don't like getting yelled at and you get yelled at when you do wrong, the natural solution is to stop doing the wrong thing. Growing up in a town where football is religion, I have seen parents do some crazy stuff, which I often disagreed with, but my dad definitely was harder on me than a lot of parents would be on their kids. I think it comes down to the kid. If your kid can handle it, then I say it's fine. With that being said, most kids do not respond well to that form of coaching, they just shut down and get sad because their parents are yelling at them. But, me, being an ENTJ, was always just focused on bettering results, so I was able to get past taking it personally and use it as constructional criticism.
That's a fair point. I think it's an age thing too. They're seven, and many are playing for the first time. If they were older or more experienced, I could see that more. It also seemed to be the default setting for some of them. Straight to screaming and threatening without steps before that.
Ahhh, ok, sorry, I didn't know the age. Yeah, yelling is not the proper method with kids that young, they'll just make break down and hate sports all together

I got to use the phrase "how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?" For its most literal meaning in a contextually relevant manner during a conversation my 3 year old.
I got to experience all the crazy parents and coaches sports things from my much younger brother playing baseball and soccer. Parents get WAY too intense. I remember a dad yelling at his son for whiffing on hitting the ball in T-ball. Then when he was on a semi-competitive baseball team in middle school the parents were just awful towards their own kids, the other team, the umps, the coaches. It's pretty insane. A little intensity and competition is fine, but when the parents are getting in the way of the kids having fun it's too much.

Ah, Prom. That most storied of high school's nights. My senior prom was last night.
Oh wow that's big.
I'm the dude on the left. The reason why I'm with all the girls is because they're all in my AP Physics lab group (so we're all pretty smart people; three of them are going into engineering at Purdue, U of I, Georgia Tech, and one is going into UA's ROTC program). And I went stag, same as it was last year. The prom itself was a lot more fun this year though. I can't dance, so most of it was spent talking with friends and making a fool of myself in the photobooth. One of the pictures was of me and a (slightly) different group of girls, me being the lone guy again.
(That's normal for me.)
Pictures before hand were a clusterfuck, and the afterparty was fun. Except that it got awkward right at the end. Largely because of a game of "Truth or Dare?"
So my turn rolls around. One of the girls immediately blurts out the most obvious choice of question: "Who's the prettiest girl here?", which I answered truthfully.
I'm going to have some explaining to do (as will the girl that asked the question).

But regardless, I had a great night.
Glad you had fun. Enjoy all that stuff that you can.

AP physics helped me none credit-wise in my engineering degree, but basically covered everything in my freshman statics and dynamics classes.
"I'll be honest, I find it pretty difficult to physically write a letter these days. My hand has atrophied and is primarily good for texting, typing, and the occasional handjob."
"I loved hearing about your cum encrusted pants and the dogs who ate them."
Can anyone suggest a good place for white water rafting near Manchester or northern Georgia? Friend and I are thinking about heading up there June 10th
there were so many prom kids at my restaurant last night. and there were definitely 2 groups from the same high school that did NOT enjoy seeing one another. thought there was gonna be a prom fight.
I put my house up for sale today. The idea of keeping it spotless and having to be able to have a showing on an hours notice is nerve wrecking. But the idea of moving back in with my mom for a bit is even worse. I'm so conflicted on if I want it to sell quickly or not.
Prom at my school was an all-school event, so my memories are all scattered about.
10th grade I was 'roided up to the gills post-neurosurgery and spent most of the evening romancing my dessert plate. Baby, you know I'll always love you.
11th grade was more of the same, except without the steroid excuse. Then my friend, his girlfriend and I caught an early ride back to campus - which is when the real party began, since most of the teachers and proctors (RAs) were still at prom.
12th grade some friends and I smoked a doob or two on the golf course behind the country club and owned that dancefloor.
Then I got arrested on that golf course during college for 'prowling' (read: sneaking on with friends at 3am to smoke some ganja for old times' sake). I hid my pipe in my shoe and they never found it... 0 for 2, P-Town Country Club.
