We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Your comment just sounded a little condescending. FHA insurance makes good financial sense for a lot of people.
It wasn't my intention to be condescending in my reply to JHo. (My apologies if I did come off wrong on that.) I have been told by a number of sources that if one can afford to reach 20%, it saves one from a lot of extra fees due to the added insurance. I realize not many people can pull it off, but it's a good thing to try and reach.
The self-deprecating comment reply, I was pretty sure I was gonna get trolled (again) for saying something stupid.
It wasn't condescending. But we don't really have the option of saving 20% for a downpayment... if that was the case, I would never own a home. Rent here in Nashville has skyrocketed and it will still be cheaper for us to buy a home with an FHA loan and all the extra fees than to continue to rent.
I'll take my FHA loan over living with my parents any day personally.
There's also conventional programs that allow you to get private mortgage insurance and put down less then 20%, know your options yo.
Mine is a Fannie Mae loan. I had to put down 5% (which I couldn't have done without family help), and I still have private mortgage insurance, but my realtor told me that it was easier to get an offer accepted if you have a conventional loan because there are extra hoops that have to be jumped through with the FHA loans, like an additional inspection, so sellers prefer buyers with conventional financing. The PMI doesn't last forever. The lender is required to cancel it when your balance is scheduled to reach 78% of the original value of the house. Or you can request that it be cancelled when you actually reach 80% of the original value, but then I think you have to get an appraisal and everything to prove the current value.
Also, JHOinTN, thanks for asking about this. I was looking for the letter I got recently regarding when my PMI will get cancelled, and I realized I had a letter from my lender that I hadn't opened. It was a check.
Can you imagine how the "the government is tracking your movements via your RFID wristband hippies" would freak out if you had to link your credit card to it too
This has been an option at a few festivals this year. I opted NOT to do this at ACL. I can't imagine how out of control my spending would be if all I had to do was swipe my wristband.

Haha yup, probably nothing the government cares more about then where some tripped out pour hippies are walking around a music festival!

They had it at tomorrowworld when i went and it's not really as bad as you'd think. I just put like $60 on at a time and refilled when necessary, which was really easy to walk up and swipe your card and add money. There was an "auto-fill" option that I didn't use for that exact reason.
The Flaming Lips' Sargent Pepper cover album might be the worst album I have ever listened to
Its not even the worst this year. Have you heard julian Casablanca and the voidz drivel?
Yeah, but as the in residence Julian Casablancas fanboy I'm incredibly biased. I will say that the album is nonsense though, hopefully it's just a phase for him
Fireball Whiskey is being recalled in Europe. Norway, Finland and Sweden have recalled the cinnamon flavored whiskey because of an additive that’s found in the drink—propylene glycol, according to Fox News.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says propylene glycol (PG), which is found in all kinds of food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, is “generally recognized as safe,” but the EU has different standards. PG is also found in antifreeze, but who’s keeping track.
“Unfortunately, Fireball shipped its North American formula to Europe and found that one ingredient is out of compliance with European regulations. Finland, Sweden and Norway have asked to recall those specific batches, which is what the brand is doing,” read a statement issued by Finland’s state alcohol monopoly.
Fireball released a response, essentially telling everyone to settle down. “All Fireball formulas are absolutely safe to drink and the use of PG in Fireball creates no health risk whatsoever. There is no recall in North America. Fireball fans can continue to enjoy their favorite product as they always have.”
Meanwhile, I’m wondering why the hell the EU has stricter food safety standards than the U.S. What the hell?
I've heard mixed things....mostly about it being super weird.
I don't get the Flaming Lips. They have never released a bad studio album (well.. The Terror wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either), but all their cover albums (DSotM, WALHFMF) and compilation albums (Heady Fwends) are just... really bad.
I slept for a total of 11 hours today (granted it was on and off sleep.) and for the first time in easily two weeks I actually feel well rested. My sleep schedule is fucked, but I feel great!

I think that's a bit much. It's certainly not great, but hardly the worst album ever...
The music is actually pretty cool at times, it's the vox that generally ruin the songs for me. Also I just think that the album didn't really need to be made. It just wasn't interesting at all. Maybe would've worked better as a one-off show or something.
