I would definitely be on board for a Tiesto preparty. I haven't heard anything official but people are saying there won't be any late night shows this year. so maybe a big name preparty that runs say 5-11pm is the replacement? Tiesto headlining with some other djs beforehand.
as in none AT ALL, or just none in the boom boom tent, because that could be a deal-breaker...i mean what the hell are you supposed to do after 11 pm and the shows end, go to bed like the blue-haired residents of gulf shores? no thank you..i don't even shut it down that early during the week when i have school and work the next day...
I got a text my friend weeks before the lineup was released because he knows I wanted to go and I'm a big DMB fan that said "DMB, Wilco, Dawes, Tiesto, Skrillex, Young the Giant all booked for hangout".
Recently talked to him and asked about Tiesto and he said its still confirmed and it would be Thursday...thats all I know. He also told me Delta Spirit and said they are good live but don't know much about them.
Looking forward to Alabama Shakes and The Lumineers who I've only learned about since the lineup has been released.
delta spirit, nice!
since he's so knowledgeable, why don't you ask him when the rest of the lineup will be out??

I can barely stay up past midnight.. even on the weekend! (And LOVE Delta Spirit)
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Big Gigantic is by far the best live EDM act I've ever seen. Everytime that guy hits the sax, the crowd goes absolutely wild. I saw them last year at the hangout and in my opinion he was the best EDM show they had there. Their funk is perfect for the beach and I really really hope the organizers book them again. If anyone gets a chance to see them, I highly recommend it.
I'd bet you money we see them on the beach this year.

That Big Gigantic set before PL was great.
I feel you on the unreasonable hate Skrillex gets. It's unnreal how tribal EDM fans can be. Skrillex committed the cardinal sin of EDM and went and got himself famous. Couple that with a gothy haircut and a name with an X in it and you've got yourself hipster anathema. The hate people throw at him is really off-putting, and this coming from a guy who just doesn't get into the really hard sound he puts out.
I would also love to see Thievery at Hangout. There are no words to describe how much I love their music.
I've been seeing some chatter as to cops at the Hangout. People keep posting anecdotes about how cops and narc dogs were combing the beach looking for law breakers. Did anyone else have an experience like that? I didn't see a single cop inside the fest past the gate, let alone any dogs sniffing around.

While I didn't see any dogs walking around the festival, I did see a few people pinched by undercover cops during the middle of the WSP show. Also, while I can't really know if he was the fuzz or not, at some point during a day this guy in a Bob Marley shirt (no kidding) walked up to me and asked "Hey man, you lookin' for any shrooms?". After I said "No siree", the guy asked, "Oh. Well, do you have any to sell?" "Um, no." was all I said before he scuttled away. It could be that this guy was a walking pawn shop of narcotics, or, he was an undercover cop.
Just like all festivals, best to just say no. But, in the event that you don't, keep in mind that as awesome a festival as this is, and as likely as you are to get away with breaking the law, you're still in Alabama, and last year, at least, they were using undercover cops, which is quite un-sporstmanlike if you ask me.

VNV Nation at Vinyl last night was AWESOME. great little venue, small crowd but plenty of energy, and the band was intense but also charming. lots of banter back and forth with the crowd. my favorite banter moment was at the start of the show, when the VNV Nation vocalist said this was their first time in northern florida, to which a crowd member yelled out "actually this is more like southern alabama", to which the vocalist laughed and said "oh man its gunna be one of those nights".
i would definitely go see them again, it was a good 2.5 hour dance party.
I didn't see any either, and I was looking pretty diligently. There were 200 arrests last year, so there was obviously a decent police presence. But it wasn't like a horde of undercovers descended each time someone lit up. I saw tons of people smoking all over the beach, some openly and some discretely, but I didn't witness a single arrest.
I'm expecting more cops this year due to the amount of butthurt locals who seem to think Hangout is roughly on par with a blood orgy. Be smart, but don't be too scared. I would avoid shopping around the fest site, and keep it in the condo if possible.
Flounders, that's funny. I actually saw a narc in a Bad Brains shirt at Pitchfork two years ago.
I saw 2 arrests by UC's the whole weekend, there were definitely dogs on the way in Sunday though. Hangout was the exact opposite of Bonnaroo, it started of lax and got progressively tougher all weekend. Certainly not a camping fest environment so be careful.
Hey guys! Me and my roommate are wanting to go to hangout fest this year, but cannot find a place to stay! If any one knows of a place or even has an extra room in their condo we are willing to pay $$!!! I would really hate to sleep in the car LOL No but really any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

We just upgraded to a 3BR condo (back to the Whaler!), so I just cancelled our old reservation. It is a 2BR 2Bath that sleeps 6 beachfront. The address is 1007 W Beach Blvd about a mile from the Hangout. Cost after all fees is $1188.35 Give em' a call if you want to take it: 800-524-0078 or local # is 251-948-4949
We booked through them last year and they're very easy to get along with. She told me you can bring an air mattress if you have more then 6, they really don't mind if you go over capacity.

I sent you a PM , but my brother and I have a 2BR and were looking for someone (or 2) for the 2nd bedroom. The condo is in Island Winds West, which is probably the closest condo to the fest. Let me know if you're interested.

ready to be back in BAMA. I dont remember seeing any cops once i was in. Then again most of the shows where " no no words" are abundant i am smack dab in the middle of the crowd. pretty much dont stand on the outskirts and light up a dozen joints. Use common sense and you will be fine...

Wow, only 500 tickets left. That went pretty fast.
I just saw that. SUPER fast! And two of my friends that wanted to go (neighbors from Roo last year) have been waiting on tax returns. I guess Hangout is a no-go for them.

Why would they put up hundreds of thousand or millions of dollars to book another big name when they are 500 tickets from selling out?
...because the expectation is built into the purchase. What if it sold out prior to any announcement? Could they get away with throwing some local bands up on stage?.......only once.

Let's see, last year's first round additions were:
The Avett Brothers STS9 Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Brandi Carlile JJ Grey and Mofro Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe Big Gigantic Soja Railroad Earth Greensky Bluegrass Rival Sons Honey Island Swamp Band
And ones I can find from 2010 are huge:
FLIPS Trey Ben Harper and R7 The Funky Meters Ray LaMontagne
I'd say we can't build any expectations based on 2010's additions with that being the inaugural year, but with only 2 years for data it's hard to know any trends just yet. I'd expect something similar to last year's.
