Pres. Ball, Preservation Hall's annual fundraisers, were announced today for New Orleans and San Francisco. In NOLA they are playing with Corey Glover (Living Color), Meshell Ndegeocelli, Deacon John and Pinettes Brass Band. In San Francisco, they are playing with Beats Antique and Nedgeocello. Both shows will include more acts to be named. NOLA is October 3, and SF (at the Filmore) is on November 6. Tickets are on sale 7/17.
In other NOLA show news, Doug E Fresh, Salt N Peppa, Slick Rick, Rakim, Naughty by Nature, Whodini and DJ Kool will be in town September 5 for "Super Fresh Hip Hop Fest." Not sure anything will be super fresh, but it should be cool coming the following week after Lil Weeziana/Hot Boys 75% reunion.
I'll be honest. Seeing Godspeed in both indoor and outdoor spaces, I'd pick indoors every single time. Hopscotch Thursday is great but Battles willbe packed to the rafters.
To add to this... Brandi Carlile is also playing that night and I just saw that Torres is opening. Damnit!

Definitely NOT super fresh, but maybe SUPER DOPE! I am so going to this.
Now that's how you announce a line up. Super interested in this. I might be convinced to sell my Landmark ticket if the line up is good.

Ya, because I didn't have enough shows to already to go in September!
Interesting that they're doing a 2 night stand in Austin, Brooklyn, and Chicago. Don't recall many bands besides jam bands doing this.

Those two open days between miami and Tallahassee are kind of weird. Hopefully they're trying to book a show in orlando or Gainesville for one of those dates

Three shows in New York, none in Boston/New England - we got screwed.
As always, with MMJ and Thee Oh Sees anyone headed to St Augustine make sure to hit me up - tailgating, tips and a place to crash are always on the table!!
Haha. I know. My buddies and were joking about that. We have a group Google Calendar to keep track of shows, and Aug/Sept is already getting ridiculous.
Charles Bradley and Black Joe Lewis at the Diamond in Richmond on October 2nd. Drinking beer in a baseball field with the Screaming Eagle of Soul? Might be worth checking out, smellycat.

Oh man, that's such an awesome bill. Charles Bradley as you already know is a magical experience live.
I really think Black Joe Lewis is one of the most underrated bands by this board. As far as drinking beer and dancing goes, they're at the top of my list. Ridiculously awesome horn section paired with some funky blues / garage guitar + hilarious lyrics... just the best
I mean who makes an animated music video about going to the Mustang Ranch and getting their ham glazed
Or the struggles of being broke.. "Got a job at Mickey D's, work me so hard, fuckin' me with no grease!"
And the horn section The current horn section members are super talented and really friendly guys. They're in a few other Austin bands like Hard Proof, Cilantro Boombox, and Golden Dawn Arkestra. Lots of worldy, afrobeat, sweatin' on the dancefloor funky stuff. They also sit in with Antibalas quite frequently.
Apologies for the information dump (especially because you are probably well aware of all of this), but BJL is one of my favorite bands, and they're just such a damn good time I wish more people here would check them out.

Not sure, but I think Joe Lewis may have moved away from the horn driven sound into more of a grungy blues style. That's what his last album sounded like anyhow and his backing band is no longer billed as The Honeybears.

Yeah, no doubt the previous album was much more blues / grunge driven, and my least favorite release personally. The best song was probably Come to My Party; the most horn driven track from the album, go figure. Definitely interested to see which way the next release goes.
Honeybears were dropped from the name, but the hon section is still there, and the live show gets plenty of cuts featuring them.

Good to know. I didn't care for Electric Slave. I'm glad I can still attend a show and get down if the opportunity presents itself now that my favorite Austin funk band, T Bird and the Breaks, are disbanding later this month.

Just realized that 9/14 is the first night of Monday Night Football and the Eagles are in the ATL that night to play the Falcons. Isn't the Mammal Gallery pretty close to the Dome? Gonna be some traffic folks. Although its fucking Atlanta, when is there not traffic?
The Orb is playing The Orange Peel at the beginning of September. So excited missed them at MOEMS because I didn't have the energy to walk from the Civic Center to the Orange Peel for the 20th time that weekend.
That set was fucking amazing, perfect way to cap off one of my favorite weekends ever. I should really go to this, didn't know it was happening, thanks for the heads up.
Edit: holy shit, I didn't know Autechre was playing there in October either! I HAVE to go.

Yeah should be a couple of great shows there at the OP. I am curious about one thing though, when I was looking for tour dates to post I found that they were doing a show in Atlanta on the 8th. It is still listed on the Terminal West site, so not really sure what is going on there.
