Be warned: he *really* doesn't like Trump, so prepare yourself - particularly for Another Brick In The Wall and the first four songs after the intermission

My girlfriend won tickets to see Broken Social Scene tomorrow. We already had plans, but not big enough or with anyone else so that we couldn't cancel. Neither of us have ever listened to them, who do they sound like and is it worth going?

It's definitely worth going. Their show is fantastic.

We saw them last week. It was a fun show. They have a classic mid 00s "indie-rock" sound (like a less polished New Pornos). There's like 10 people in the band, they all rotate instruments and vocals. The crowd was actually suprisingly into the show, the front man is very funny and engaging. If you generally like the genre, it's a show you can enjoy without really knowing the music.

It's absolutely worth going. Their live shows are fantastic. If you like any real current big name indie bands you will like Broken Social Scene (think The National, Dirty Projectors, Spoon, Modest Mouse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc.). Chances are you may have listened to one of the bands side projects like Feist, Stars, Metric, Do Make Say Think, Apostle of Hustle, Land of Talk, or many others.
The general vibe of their music is, "get all your emotions out." There's lots of loud rock overtures, plenty of quiet moments of contemplation and everything in between. If you want to try the band out go with You Forgot It In People. They play a pretty even mix of YFIIP, self-titled, Forgiveness Rock Record, and their newest one (Hug of Thunder) on this tour.
Full disclosure I am completely in the bag for Broken Social Scene and they're one of my favorite bands ever.

Anyone seen Grandmaster Flash recently? He will be at a club in Dallas tomorrow. I'm curious how he is live lately and if it is worth the $25 and 40 minute drive.

BSS is my favorite band so I may be a bit biased, but I'd highly recommend seeing them.

He was super fun as an opening set for Empire of the Sun, but probably wouldn't pay money or travel for it. Played like every hip hop hit from Rapper's Delight through the early 90s. Didn't play any of his own songs though....

My friend who works for KEXP managed to get me and the lady on the guest list for tonight's BROCKHAMPTON show! Good god there are going to be so many under 21s at this show, this shit's gonna get weird. I'm stoked.

This fest was really nice in Denton. It had a great artist communal vibe with lots of collaborations. It was named best local fest by Dallas in the Observer last year. I knew if it did take place this year it would likely be moving to Dallas. They are taking the lineup in a different direction it looks. I won't be trying to make this but I will miss it happening just down the road from me. RIP Oaktopia in Denton and 35 Denton.
I didn't end up making it to Broken Social Scene I listened to their new album and thought it'd be a great show, but my girlfriend did not so I didn't go. However, we did end up making this for dinner, if anyone is looking for a Keto Cauliflower Pizza Casserole recipe (it's very good, would definitely make it again) -> www.ruled.me/keto-cauliflower-pizza-casserole/
