Just bought tickets to EdgeFest here in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, a really impressive lineup for this size festival and it takes care of a lot of artists i was hoping would be on this years lineup and a few that i can get out of the way pending future conflicts.
See you there. Kind of disappointed with the 45 min set time for MM though. I'll be flying in from New Orleans Saturday morning, any recommendations on places to eat around Frisco that night or the next day?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

modest mouse tonight! i have to be at work at 11, so i'm hoping i won't have to skip out early.
They played an almost 45-minute encore at the show I saw last month.... I'm nervous you will have to skip out early What time does the show start?
i believe it starts at 8, so they'll maybe come on around 9? i work right up the street from the venue, but i can't really be late, as i relieve someone after their 56 hour shift.

The show I went to started at 8, had an opener play for 35-40 minutes, and MM came out around 9:20 I think. You'll definitely get the majority of it in! Hopefully almost all

Wait just a second, where are you seeing this 45 minute set time for MM? And what are you looking to munch on? Babes chicken is pretty legit but they got a few places that are tasty.
My love for Hot Chip just keeps being rejuvenated recently over the past several weeks. They're playing here towards the end of May. As much as I'm stingy and don't really wanna spend $30 on a single show. I saw them twice in 2010 and haven't seen them since. I might go to The Depot to buy tickets immediately after I get paid this coming Thursday.
Other shows I'm hoping to go to in the next several weeks: Lady Lamb (maybe, since they're getting some interesting love around these parts) Waxahatchee Young Fathers Dan Deacon Action Bronson

uh yeah, you should go. because I'll be there!!! and I have a ticket to young fathers... but I don't think I'll be able to take work off for it.

Do it. Do not hesitate. Hot Chip doesn't tour too often (at least around my area). Plus, they were fantastic when I saw them at SXSW.
Edit: smellycat, that like was for you being at Hot Chip, not missing the other show!
The Head and the Heart announced this acoustic set on Twitter about 16 hours before they played it here in Houston last night. It was only Jonathan and Josiah but it was still really awesome. They played A LOT of awesome new material. Not so much an upcoming show, but if you don't follow them on twitter already and you like them then I would suggest to do so to catch a future one.

I agree on Babe's Chicken; the one I want to in Roanoke is great. There is a chain place by Toyota Field called Rudy's that makes good BBQ.

The Rudy's around SA are definitely quality BBQ. When ordering brisket, the key is to ask for the "moist". They have two cuts of brisket, lean and moist. Moist has more fat in it, thereby making it 10x more delicious. If you don't specify though, you typically get the lean.

Thanks for restaurant options. Any good Mexican restaurants you all could recommend?
modest mouse tonight! i have to be at work at 11, so i'm hoping i won't have to skip out early.
I'm so damn jealous, they only played a festival by me so I didn't get a full MM show and the first time I saw em was a fest too, so I have yet to get a true, full on MM show and they played a song (arguably my favorite of theirs) last night for the first time since '96. So you're in for a serious treat tonight

Oh I almost forgot, for a good deal on breakfast there is a nearby grocery store called Market Street on the north-west corner of Eldorado and the Dallas Tollway where you can get a big breakfast burrito, around a pound, and coffee for around 6 bucks.

i've been listening to them since high school, and this is my first time getting to see them live! i'll report back with how wonderful it is.

Around here $30 isn't much either. That's pretty standard for a majority of shows. If I can find a show I want to see for $20 or less it's a big deal. But I've seen people on here and elsewhere make comments about how $30 and up is a lot for a single show. It makes me wonder if ticket prices for the same bands vary from city to city.
I would say $30 is about average for lesser known or "on the rise" acts, $40-50 for better known to well-known or rare acts and then varying prices as you get bigger. For example, I paid $30 for Sylvan Esso and Tycho- both at the same venue, $50ish for Seth Avett & Jessica Lea Mayfield and MMJ- both at diff theaters, $40 for Rusted Root & The Wailers this year, $10 for The Wailers last year, $30 for Broken Bells and $70 for Santana- all at the same venue....
Idk. I'm just thinking aloud here but it's something that intrigues me.

I bet there is some deviation between cities, but doubt it's too significant. A lot of it just depends on the band you're seeing, I think.
Most of the shows I go to are in the $15-$20 range, but they happen to often be lesser known bands that are playing in venues with capacities around 500 or less. Anytime it's a more recognizable name, they are often closer to $30 and up.
But I burn a tank of gas driving to and from Austin if I'm working though, so that definitely adds to the cost. Less if I'm coming from SA.
When you're in Austin, Mohawk seems to be where I see a good portion of my shows (and the venue fucking rocks). They're typically $15-20, but could be more depending on the band. Ministry just announced a show there, and they want $70 for it. I love Ministry, but not paying $70 for him. The Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse (two fairly popular metal bands) was $30. But if you're seeing a show at Stubbs (2200 capacity vs Mohawks 500ish), the tickets are more likely to be in the $20-50 range.
I would like to know the difference between the lowest and highest price tickets on an artist's tour though, that would be interesting.

Ministry is $70 here too. I think that is what they are charging on this tour. I feel like I go to a bunch of $15-$20 shows, but sometimes someone comes to town and their ticket price is WAY higher than I feel that they should be. Venue, artists, popularity are the causes I imagine.

They definitely do. Some of it depends on the cost of living, some of it depends on touring expenses (it costs a lot to send a band to the ass end of the planet for 5-6 cities), but it's not only that - some bands are more or less popular here than in the US, and that's definitely reflected in the cost as well. Even when I was in the US, I'd often see higher prices for NYC than for the same band in Boston.
I am convinced anyone who thinks $30 is a lot for a single show lives in Narnia. After enough time in Boston/NYC/Sydney/Melbourne, any well-established, halfway decent act for much under $30 is like a unicorn frolicking out of a supernova, farting its rainbow sparkles all across the land.
Love some Rudy's Sause (sic). I always pick up a big bottle to bring home when visiting the Loop 360 Shell in Austin. Rudy's probably isn't Top 50 Texas bbq (Sauce being the exception), but it's still good for quick takeout. I seem to remember them having lean, moist or cutter's choice. Also their smoked prime rib, while not in the same ballpark as Kreutz, is good for the price if you can get there before it over cooks for the day. I'm talking 10:30-11 am. Get a pound of that shit while it's red/pink

Im not really sure about any Mexican joints around Frisco, further out yeah but not in the city. It looks like i will be staying my ass on that main stage all day so i can get a nice spot for Death Cab and MM. Never been to a show at the stadium but i haven't heard anything negative, should still be a fun day.

actually, $30 is on the high end in minneapolis for shows. most shows I go to are like $25 before fees MAX. usually less than that. hell, both sufjan and death cab shows were only like $38 (before fees) - but fees aren't too expensive around here.
all of the tickets in my wallet range from $12 - $22. maybe that's why it seems to cheap for me to go to shows....
I saw tycho here for like $18 and broken bells for like maybe $25. surprised they go cheap here.
edit: now that I think about it, I was pretty surprised by hot chip being $30 when I saw it go on sale, too.

You can't compare Australia to the US though, that's apples and oranges. I'd absolutely expect shows to be more expensive in Australia.
How much of difference would you see between Boston and NYC? I'd expect maybe a 10-20% difference in prices between cities, but that's just a number I pulled out of my ass.
And I think you nailed it on the head with "well established". That's what draws the mainstream audience, and sells more tickets. If you're seeing a more underground band, it's going to be cheaper. I'm not seeing massive bands for $15-20. I'm seeing Liturgy, Tobacco, Dan Deacon, John Talabot, Inter Arma. Fantastic artists that put on a hell of a show, but they don't have the mainstream appeal to move lots of tickets.
I bet the ratio of venues to shows in a city plays a factor as well. If a city has fewer venues then it could realistically support, they'll be in higher demand, which means higher prices to the bands, and thus the ticket buyer.
In Austin, $15-20 is normal for a club show (500 ish or less), $30-50 is more average for the next size up venues (2000-4000), and then arena prices really depend on the artist.

The fact that you know Kreutz is a step up in my book! I prefer Smitty's if I'm in Lockhart, but you really can't go wrong there!
