Holy Crap, that reminds me of the dude I ended up standing next to when watching them at Lollapalooza.
He kept saying to his group that they had to stay until they played High and Dry then they could leave. AND THEY TALKED THROUGH THE WHOLE DANG SHOW
That group ruined Lollapalooza for me
I can't comprehend people who go to a show to hear one song and then leave. Like a lot of people do for Gnarls Barkley sets at festivals. Oh well, more room for everyone else. But it still bothers me.
I understand this, but hang out in the back and or something. I was at Camp Bisco and some brah was just way stoked on seeing Wiz Khalifa. SO stoked, in fact, that he wouldn't shut the fuck up about it throughout all of Neon Indian. This was approximately 10 rows of people back from the bar. I just never understand why someone would put a bunch of effort into getting close for an act they don't give a fuck about, just to talk through the whole show. "Man, I like talking to you guys, but shouldn't we go find a band to have to talk over so we have trouble hearing each other and have to talk louder? Sounds awesome to me"

I had a similar situation at Bisco during Death From Above 1979. The dude next to me kept on talking about how all he wanted to hear was "Romantic Rights". It's like, obviously they're gonna play it, just be patient. But no, he had to scream "ROMANTIC RIGHTS" every five seconds. Kind of ruined that set for me.

Yeah but would you ever go to a show outside of a festival environment and do that? Is there really nothing else going on that you'd rather spend your time just hoping one specific song is played so you can leave? And there's few artists I can think of that I only like exactly one song
Of course I wouldn't spend money and drive to a show to see one song and leave, but if the band is a tent away and when all it takes a couple hundred steps between me and a song I like, why the hell not?

I'll have what Ron's having, please.
As long as we get Nos. 5, 11, 23, 26, and 29 -- I'm wigging fully.

Why would it be off-putting? I would rather hear 2-3 more songs instead of the show being over.
If you intend to play the songs anyway, why take two breaks?
Maybe bc they would like a break. It also gets the crowd going a bit. There is always a little excitement in a band coming back out on stage when you think they could be done. Also, when a band does not come back out I find most people were wishing they did. I am not in a band so I dont know if all encores are planned, but I would think that not all of them are. Going off stage and coming back on also gives the crowd the notion that the show is almost over instead of the band just randomly walking off stage. It serves its purposes or bands would never do it
Those are all fantastic reasons to have one encore.
Why would you take 2 breaks for 1 encore? We were talking about if double encores were off-putting. Know the context of the conversation before you give us your input. Which wasn't much to begin with

Are you confused about the difference between "1 encore" and a "double encore"?
Double means "two", as in "two encores", which implies "two breaks"

I took this as sarcasm. If so, are you confused? You are the one who said 1 encore. 1 does not = 2 and 1 does not mean double.
If it was not sarcasm then disregard what I said.
I was saying that your arguments for having two encores make much more sense as arguments for having one encore. No sarcasm necessary.
The giving the band a break argument makes more sense for 1 encore, but the rest is true for 1 or 2 encores. Encores, no matter how many there are, are used to work the crowd. Like I said before they serve a purpose. You never here about anybody talking about a show saying "they played for 2 1/2 hours straight". People do talk about a show and say "the show was amazing, they came out for 2 encores and played whatever song, this song, and that song". Even if the actual time of the show is the same
