I take it you are tent camping? (not campervan camping)
Compared to what most people (we noticed)seemed to take to Bonnaroo, people generally take very little to Glastonbury. That said you can take in what ever you like as long as its not glass. There is no campsite/arena divide either so what ever you take you can carry with you all day (makes drinking a lot cheaper). It also allows you to watch the stages from your tent if you can get a room with view.
Don't generally bring anything you can afford to lose, tent theft has become a lot more common in recent years - there are free Lock-ups at every campsite corner though if you need them.
One thing that is very different, is apart from the campervan field there is no Car next to your tent set-up - so no cars are checked on the way in so you can bring as much supplies of what ever in your cars (are you hiring cars?)
Camping space fills up very quickly as from Wednesday when the doors open. As much as there will be room for everyone, get there as close to opening time if you all want to camp together. The main spaces that get taken first are the higher grounds - after 2005's flooding people are wise to where they camp these days. Two of the most popular places to fill up first are Pennards Hill and the grounds in front of the Pyramid stage. I wouldn't advise camping near the Pyramid as the general food/facilities there are not as good/more expensive as its the busiest part of the festival.
I know what you mean about being limited to what you can bring - We had the same problem last year when we came to Bonnaroo.
Ol' and by the way Alt-J have just confirmed they are at Glastonbury during the Brit Awards tonight!

Ahh the bus drops you right at the festival gates so great! Only thing is, once again it limits you to what you can bring. There is a Tesco supermarket well within walking distance if you can be bothered?
The lockups aren't lockers - they are manned stalls/info points with racking - I'll be honest I've never used them but I know that my friend kept his DSLR in one two years ago and it was fine. You basically give them your bag and they give you a ticket.
Food and drink prices vary around the site - the further from the pyramid the cheaper and better variety you will find.
Also on the line-up front Friday night is pretty much nailed on to be Dizzee Rascal followed by the Arctic Monkeys as headliners
Thanks random_man! As Druid said, we plan on getting most essentials at the fest. I was just curious why there isn't much info on the camping itself; I guess since people don't spend much time there, it's not as important?
In all honesty, I'm mostly concerned about getting cold. I tend to be cold-natured, so my bag will be packed full of sweatshirts, fleece, and fluffy socks.
Thanks for much for your help. We plan on bringing only the basics and get everything else we need there. I'm bringing clothes and a tent.
What kind of boots do you recommend?
I would recommend Merrells to be honest. English weather is generally wet, and Glastonbury is usually cold. The last thing you want is some heavy boots. Buy some good gore-tex tennis shoes and cover those bad boys in water repellent. Have a great trip; you'll never forget Glastonbury.

In the daytime it can be as hot as Bonnaroo but it does get very cold at night. I would suggest bringing clothing for all conditions - in 2009 and 2010 it was so hot people were trying to get every ounce of shade possible but 2011 poured down non-stop on the thursday and friday and was pretty cold with it.
Shoewise if the goings good a pair of trainers/flip flops/sandles are fine, if it rains it normally gets mucky pretty quickly especially in the walkways so either Walking boots or rubber Boots (is that what you guys call them?) are the best.
The reason why they dont put much on the website about camping is because it is basically just a field with toilets - anything goes! What more can be said! Generally most people dont bother with showers, although they are available.
If you need to know anything else about camping please do ask
There are loads of stalls selling stuff at Glastonbury a much bigger variety than at bonnaroo - but beware if it rains the price of boots doubles etc..
Dizzee did a few songs with Calvin Harris - he's a rapper from London. His biggest track to date is probably "Bonkers" or "fix up look sharp" he also preformed at the Olympic opening ceremony last year!
Hope I can grab a good spot. Don't leave London until 1:00 on Wednesday which puts me on site around 4:30. Fingers crossed that I'm not camping in a ditch.
I fly out of Alabama on the 17th will arrive in London on the 18th and I will be on festival grounds in the afternoon of the 26th. Sometime between the 18th and 26th I'm heading up to Wales for my Doctor Who pilgrimage.
Also a friendly reminder for us 'muricans and other international orderers to pay off our ticket balance next week. Otherwise it will be a sad end to June.

I'm sorry Bonnaroo, but I am cheating on you with a girl named Glastonbury.

Excellent so you've got a bit of time to get over your jet-lag before the festival then! When I flew out to Bonnaroo last year we arrived in Washington DC on the Sunday.

Doctor Who pilgrimage? Please don't tell my husband about this.
random_man Do they have places to refill your water bottles spread out over the festival grounds? Or just near the bathroom areas?
Also, where do you normally camp? This is something I've been pouring over for a few months, and I have some ideas of where I think we should set up camp (depending on how full it is, of course): Park Home Ground, Pylon Ground and Darble.

We normally camp in the Oxylers opposite the Other Stage - its a good location as no-one has to walk past to get anywhere (dont get your tent stamped on) and its close to the Other Stage, Dance Village (although thats changing this year), Glade and Park stage - its also within easy reach of the Old railway track.
Yes there are quite a few taps to fill up your bottles at - Also the toilet/bathroom areas are quite frequent around the site too
I'm more gutted that I may not be able to go... Mrs is preggo with #2, very unexpected... She's insisting that I go by myself, I'm hesitant.
Congratulations! Though I hate that you may not be able to go to Glasto. If you do decide to come sans-wife, you will have Druid and myself to hang out with!
Looks like I will be going sans Mrs... I may have to take you up on the offer, I can be your tour guide there
I trust that when the Glastonbury lineup breaks, JHOinTN and I can count on all of you guys to pick it apart, tell us why it sucks/is awesome, and give us advice on whom to see.
Thank you in advance,
The Glasto team.
Don't try to plan... trust me, it never works out. Either your plans just vanish and you're gutted or you spend way too much time trying to get places and end up missing out on a lot of stuff.
It has been ages since I have been on the boards, but I was told of the Glasto thread on the Inforoo FB page. I am going. I couldn't find anyone to go with me, but I am going regardless because, you know, why not, right?
Flights in and out of Heathrow are booked. So are my pre- and post-festival hotels (spending a week in London prior to the fest).
Also got the email today saying that international orders are to be paid next week. So that got me a bit more excited. Wooo!
Hey... PM me. I ended up going by myself this year.

Glad you found the thread! (I was the one that directed you here ). Druid and I will be there, as will handgunhipster and her significant other. Druid and I have made our arrangements as well. We should all plan to meet up at Glastonbury! We 'Muricans need to stick together
We can try to, perhaps, meet up the day before, depending on where everyone will be. Maybe set up a time or what-not to work out details?
Hello! Its been a while since I've been on here and was with you guys last year at Roo.
I'm a Glastonbury regular and happy to help answer any of your questions if I can.
Regarding one question that I saw on here about getting a hotel instead of camping, like somebody else said on here, it can be done but there is so much going on at night that it would probably not be worth its while. Also getting on and off site can be bit of a trek at times.
on the rumour mill at the moment -
It was revealed at the weekend that the Arctic Monkeys are the Friday night head-liner
The Rolling Stones, so we should know that one by the middle of March (apparently it all depends on the outcome of the HardRock Calling gigs in London on the same weekend)
Arctic Monkeys headlining Pyramid? No matter how much I'd like to see them... I think I'll be staying away from this one. Imagine the zoo that will go on there! Did you go in '11? Remember the damn crunch all the time on the right side of Pyramid?
I'm more excited as to what changes they will make to the late night areas. Read somewhere that Shangri-La will be the only one left in the present location.

Awesome! Glad there is another Inforooster going to Glasto!
I would like to know more about the camping situation. I understand the basics but I've seen few pictures that show what campsites look like. What camping supplies do we need that we may not have thought of? Remember, we're Roo veterans! BUT- we are limited to what we can bring on the plane.
Don't bother with food, bring booze... Don't worry about keeping beer cold, it will be cold enough at night. Unless you want absolute dead at night, I recommend staying in the more central fields.
We will be taking a shuttle bus in. The first one leaving London at 6AM.
How big are the lockers?
Alt-J. Nice. I'm seeing them here in Nashville in March.
They're not lockers... just a tent, you hand your stuff over and get a receipt. I don't think there's any limit on what and how much you can hand in, just be reasonable.
Just throwing an idea out there... as I'll be staying in Shepton Mallet the night before and plan on being there around 4am on Wednesday, maybe I can stake a spot for you guys if we all agree to camp in the same spot.

I was going to recommend Kidney Mead to them, although Oxylers is excellent as well. Pennard Hill seemed to have some theft issues last year. I truly hope they don't take away what's left of the Dragon Field, but I figure that since they're leaving London at 6am, if traffic gods are good, should be by gate A around 10... chances to get a spot at Dragon are slim by then.
