I wish we had gone to Walkmen but we stayed for Sleigh Bells. The crowd just kept growing and growing, easily the largest Other tent show I think I have ever seen. I didn't know what to expect and I'm not sure if Sleigh Bells actually put on a good show or not because I'm not sure what we actually saw, it was just a sonic assault with strobes, but the crowd seemed to love it and just went completely nuts.
Did anyone else catch River City Extension? Easily my favorite set from the day. Hell of a lot of energy, very tight sound, poignant lyrics, and a crowd who seemed really into them. That could be because of the fact that they were the first band of the weekend at This, but I was completely blown away.
I'm confused at what was wrong with Sleigh Bells??? It was one of my favorite shows of the weekend. I understand if it was the crowd or you had a bad spot but does anyone who was in a good spot really think this wasn't a good show??
I was on the left side of the tent (on the edge of the tent and outside) about halfway up towards the front. I thought it sounded fantastic and the smoke/flashing lights added to it. The guitar was heavy and awesome and that part looked like a heavy metal band. She sounded great and danced around the stage getting the crowd pumped. Anyways great show.
Same here and their new stuff was killer!!! Here was my view...
Your view was much better than mine was. I really enjoyed the show but got there a little late so the crowd was PACKED. just hung out towards the back but it sounded fantastic.

Great video!! How tall are you!?!? Sometimes it sucks being 5'8" at roo (my GF is 5'0" even worse for her)
Thanks! Don't worry, sometimes it sucks being 6'3. I can have a great view of the stage all while being the tall a$$hole standing in the way of everyone under 6 foot. It's a blessing and a curse...
Had never seen or heard The Walkmen but my buddy was going to see them and he loves them so I tagged along...easily my second favorite show of the entire weekend...blew me away!

I intended to see them. But just like Here We Go Magic last year, I missed them.

Sleigh Bells was god awful. I saw them over a year ago when they opened for Yeasayer and I actually think they have regressed. They are just riding their hipster hype until they finally fade away.
Rolling Stone claims you couldn't hear the vocals over the crowd which is pure crap. The sound was terrible and they sounded terrible.
Anyone who thought that was a good show should probably just quit listening to music all together.
Band of Skulls on the other hand was awesome. I wasn't fully familiar with their music but they put on a great show.
Childish Gambino was also a lot of fun, I wouldn't say it rated overall for the weekend but it was great for a Thursday night set and I enjoyed Donald more then Em or Wayne.

Deerhunter was pretty cool but by the time they started I'd developed a splitting headache and noise rock was not exactly the best medicine...
Sleigh Bells crowd must have been packed, it took me ten minutes to get out of there after the Drums finished. I don't think it's fair to say they've regressed though, I've heard some good things about their show and it doesn't sound that different from when I saw em open for LCD last fall, which was a lot of fun. This is their first real tour. It's too early to shit on a band this fresh, even if their live show is just a competent rendition of their one album they're touring on. I'll believe they've regressed if their live show goes to shit in the next couple years and their next albums show a steady decline. Until then they're still a promising new band as far as I'm concerned.
I was in the mosh pit for Wavves and it was some of the most fun I've ever had at Bonnaroo. Heard more than one hipster bitching, asking all the people having fun 'can't you just let us watch the show?' I guess for a lot of people there it was their first time at a punk show. Still, it was a blast.

Why is it unfair to say Sleigh Bells have regressed when its true? They used to be a mediocre live band and now they are just plain terrible. Hopefully after their next album they realize they need to change their live show. Adding a live drummer would help a lot.

Haven't heard anyone mention Chris Harford & the Band of Changes. They killed it in the on tap lounge @ 2:30 on Thursday. Had a pretty big crowd pulled for Thursday @ 2:30.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

Deerhunter #1 - third row from rail. They were incredible.
Sleigh Bells - Close #2 - I understand if it was too packed for someone's liking. Me and a buddy got about 15 rows from the stage. They sounded fantastic to me and I wasn't a huge fan going in. If you think they sounded shitty then you didn't have a good spot, plain and simple.
Wavves was pretty good. I'd like to see him at a smaller club definately.

After Them it was Karen Elson.
Both shows were fantastic. I didn't even plan on catching Chris Harford til I read in the Bonnaroo newspaper that the bass player from Ween and Joe Russo were playing with him. Its great to see that great last minute show at Roo.
Karen Elson blew me away though. Third best show of Thursday behind Deerhunter and The Walkmen. I really dug her debut album, but she took it to another level live. Really great gothic country type sound she had.
