Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo in 2013!!
All I can say, is out of respect for the families we not discuss what we don't know. I know for a fact that Matt's Mother was on inforoo quite a lot after his death. She read everything we said about him.
I have no problem discussing the possible causes for these deaths, and how to prevent it. But it needs to be handled very carefully.
i understand that. i had no idea until earlier today that what happened to matt involved druqs. everyone kept it so quiet. no one really knows about yoderoo and maybe we never will. it seems like no matter what it is, it's reported as heat related and that there are tests being done... and then we never hear anything else about it. i think roo is part of the problem. they know what goes on, but it would be bad press, so they sweep it under the rug.

It's horrible to jump to conclusions, but we've all assumed it. I readily agree that it needs to be discussed, albeit respectfully. Perhaps prior discussion could have made an impact. This kid was a vet, and well prepared, it's hard to rule out this unspoken assumption when it seems so likely. R.I.P. Chris, I'm grateful that you passed in a place you loved so much.

I am 18 and this year was my first roo. I had never been camping before besides with girl scouts...i slammed a case a day. I had an amazing time needless to say. I also brought a galon jug of water into centeroo with me EVERYDAY. i never had to pour it out, never got patted down, and they only ever peeked in my bag. obviously it is extremely sad that people get injured and hurt but honestly do some research! it's common sense to drink water in hot weather and also to drink water with alcohol. i find is so hard to believe that people are stupid enought to just show up at bonnaroo with no water, sunscreen, or tent. what the quack are these people thinking.
wow.. I always wanted to know what they did with the cookie money
This is absolutely heartbreaking, no matter what the cause was. He was in pod 10? That's where I was.. that's why the road was blocked off? I thought it was so the church could use the street. I don't even know what to say. So, so sad. I tried my best to check on people who looked like they were having a rough time. I gave away water and helped a couple people get medical help. People in my group made fun of me for it, but it made me feel better.
I just want to throw this in here because it should be said, always bring some snacks, hydration isn't the only key - getting some carbs/complex sugars in your system after hours of dancing and movement is often more helpful then straight water. The water will run straight through you once you start using your bladder often, ya know classic "breaking the seal" issue. Plus if you are burning any energy you need to put not just water but ENERGY back into your system..
screw the don't take outside food, nobody has taken a snack from me ever

People earlier in this thread were talking about what would happen if the media got a hold of this and spun it in a paranoia fashionable way. Link on Huffington Post's main page:
This is horrible news. My prayers and thoughts go out to Beth's and Chris's families. Regardless of cause, family member and friends of these people are hurting right now and need only our sympathy and support.
I love my Inforoosters, we are a family of passionate music lovers, not just Bonnaroo enthusiasts. Im proud to say Chris was one of us.
I will happily donate/participate in whatever Inforoo decides to do for Yoderoo's memorial. If Beth was one of us, I'd be there for her family too.

These are sad and unfortunate events that happen every year. Even with all of the available first aid and assistance, you gotta be self-aware. The heat this time of year in rural Tennessee is damn dangerous.

So tragic that two people who were looking forward to Roo just like the rest of us are now gone.My heart goes out to their families and friends.I remember seeing a post by yoderoo last week and thinking what a cool username and even wishing I'd ended my username with "roo".Not a very poignant thing really, but my memory returned there when I read of his passing. May he find his eternal "Bonnaroo",a place where everything is always "just right" where the young never die and the music is perfect and eternal.Peace.
Seriously man, if you dont like the heat, don't come back, but don't come to a community where the majority of the people are bonnaroo enthusists, and biznatch and moan.
I think everyone here would rather you just go to coachella than to make another crybaby post.
Yes, because people who don't agree with you should be banned!
Edit: not trying to screw up a sad thread with this kind of response, but it's absurd that you think people who don't agree with you should be banned. This is, above all, a DISCUSSION board.
And I disagree with the whole "whenever you have that many people in one place someone is bound to die"...look at Burning Man. Nobody dies there (besides one person who committed suicide in 2007).
Burning Man, who only just last year got up to half the attendance of Bonnaroo, has had two non-suicide deaths. The first one was when it was only 8,000 people.
I'm not trying to be cold when I point out the statistics, and I hope others aren't either. But for a long weekend Manchester is Tennessee's fourth largest city.
I also feel like Bonnaroo panicked a bit. Everyone is completely right that they don't play up the heat like they should pre-festival. But some of you may have noticed that during the festival there was an interesting turn in their attitude and I saw people on mic's giving, "housekeeping" messages on several stages talking about the heat. Plus, the screens on What and Which were NOT used for the "Color" app photos like they originally planned but with hydration messages. So I think they balked. Hopefully an indication of more permanent change in attitude.
No matter the cause, this needs to be a catalyst for InfoRoo to pay MORE attention to each other and be a closer community not just virtually, but in the real world as well.

I've only gotten to page 3, but I have to say this. Saturday I took my bf to the Pod 4 EMT(in Access) because his ankles were swollen, he was seeing double and I was overall worried. The EMT wouldn't Believe us when we told him we don't do any NO NO WORD!!! and haven't all day and weekend. I told him we both have very stable careers and we don't want to mess them up for a weekend of "fun". And we told him about the 1/2 can of beer he drank. But in the end the EMT sent us on our way with no water or anything.
Say hey johnny boy, the battle call United we stand, divided we fall Together we are what we can't be alone We came to this country you made it our home
It does sound like some people had some poor experiences with medical staff. Does anyone know if they changed anything about that this year? Hired from a different company or something? That is unfortunate. They can't refuse to treat you if they think you are on druqs.

Agree!! I never had my dried mangoes questioned, but I did have to pour out my water bottle twice entering Centeroo. Dried fruits are my little secret survival technique.
Wow... this is terrible. RIP Yoder. He seemed like a really good dude who really loved music and Bonnaroo. We disagreed alot when it came to electronic music and hip-hop, but he would always be the bigger man and just say that opinions are opinions and that we both just like what we like. Not many people have that kind modesty, especially around here.

That's because they allow small snacks into centeroo. You guys aren't getting away with anything

I think that (just like in real life) some people are more professional, caring and sympathetic while others aren't. From the differing stories I've heard it seems some people dealt with some great members of the medical staff while others dealt with the less cordial members of the medical staff. Seems it's that way for pretty much everything (people patting you down is another one...some are cool, some are power-hungry).

RIP yodaroo and everyone else that has lost their lives at this festival. Having experienced it myself for the first time this year there is no question the heat is very dangerous we all have to be careful.
Very sad to finally log back onto inforoo after a long absence to see this news.
As for those comments earlier in the thread that some people who get sick are "idiots", I will concur that SOME are. I took my mom again this year and she was just plain stupid. Barely drank any water on Friday and then couldn't figure out why she was nauseated and severely swollen (edema). She apparently thought pouring water on herself was good enough. I drank nine liters plus a few Gatorades and she barely broke 60 ounces of water. In 14 HOURS. She made me feel like a biznatch for constantly nagging her about it ("Drink more water.", "How much water have you had today?", "How long ago did you pee?"), but she's my mother and she wasn't taking care of herself! Some people just don't have a clue and don't get a clue until they get sick. She's a grown-ass woman who's been to Bonnaroo before and wouldn't even listen to her own daughter about how to stay safe.
As you can see, this has completely upset me. I've never had such a frustrating experience trying to keep someone alive and I know I can't be alone in this. I was worried sick on Saturday when we went our separate ways, but I made sure she knew where the shady spots and the closest water stations to her shows were. I just can't figure out why she was acting like a spiteful child. I blame the dust. It was a biznatch.
