Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

It's weird and brilliant as we've come to expect from Radiohead. Oddly enough, I'm sensing a little bit of a Flying Lotus influence on the first half of the record (but which came first, the chicken or the egg?). The second half is significantly prettier, though and, in my opinion, better.
But, I don't think it's as good as In Rainbows. I've only listened to it once so far, though, and Radiohead albums tend to be growers, to say the least. Get back to me after another 10 listens.
And, yeah, James Blake DEFINITELY needs to open for them and the both of them need to come to NC.
I'm liking it a lot. ON my 3rd spin now and it has gotten better with each listen. I can't say for sure if it's better than any album right now. Typically Radiohead albums grow on me and I don't really get to the bottom of my feelings for weeks, as I continue to digest the album.
Can, Pink Floyd, King Crimson...the list is pretty short.
And maybe Talking Heads too.
This album makes me happy. I can't wait to see how they interpret these songs live. It is always a thrill when they take a song that doesn't seem like it would be good live, then make it spectacular in concert. Think "Ideoteque", "Kid A", and "You and Whose Army?"
My only complaint is that it feels a little short. Maybe about 38 minutes added up?

I wish I could share everyone's enthusiasm about this... I just don't find it compelling after multiple listens. I love Kid A and Amnesiac, but this clearly doesn't hold a candle to either and not even in the same neighborhood as OKC or IR.
Its not painful for me to hear, its just kinda forgettable. Ill give it a few listens with a good pair of headphones. I know it will grow some on me, just my initial reaction wasn't what I hoped it was going to be.

Other than In Rainbows and The Bends, I have never fully appreciated a Radiohead record on first listen. I guess I have come to understand that now and expect to put the effort in. Honestly, OKC, my favorite record from them, sat on my shelf for months after a disappointing first listen. Kid A was the same. the only album where my first impression was strong but faded somewhat was Hail to the Thief.

Radiohead just need to break up. If I wanted another attempt at being Burial I could have looked elsewhere. No substance at all. They've truly lost it. I'll always look back on the Kid A/mnesiac period fondly.

In Rainbows sounded nothing like Burial. Neither does this really.
BTW, everything you said here is EXACTLY what The Bends/OK Computer people were bitching about when Kid A/Amnesiac came out only then it was "if I wanted another attempt at being Squarepusher I could have looked elsewhere"...

You're right about Burial. This is more like their best attempt at recreating the James Blake s/t album. The only difference is that album has some memorable moments. This is just dull all around.
I disagree. I think it's a lot more layered and melodic than Blake's stuff. Love both though. I can see why you wouldn't like this album. It definitely feels like it's going to on par with Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief in its divisiveness within the fanbase.

i agree with this. I enjoyed most of it on the first listen, but as soon as it ended all I could think was, 'That's it?' I was definitely expecting more. Overall, it seems disjointed/incomplete.
However, I have a feeling it will grow on my after a couple more listens
Its like an album full of Idioteque's and Morning Bell's (2 of my favorite Radiohead songs). Its Radiohead meets Flying Lotus. I can see how it would be off-putting to certain fans, but its perfect for people who like IDM or the more glitchy experimental Radiohead songs. This ones gonna be on repeat for awhile. Only track I didnt care for was the opener, Bloom. The rest are wonderful.
