Guhhh, I really hope it's not Eminem. The main problem with him is that he's SO HATEFUL. His music might be decent, but he's homophobic and misogynistic and he'd screw with my vibes. The main difference between him and acts like Jay-Z or Kanye is that, while Jay-Z and Kanye might not be beacons of morality, they don't rap about hating or wanting to hurt gay people. Eminem is vile and his presence is not desired by me. Also I owned the edited version of The Eminem Show when I was younger and an entire song was omitted. AN ENTIRE SONG.

I don't think he is homophobic, as he has been interviewed several times about it and explained himself quite clearly. That said, I do agree that his anger-fueled songs would be quite out of place at Bonnaroo.

But I would still enjoy it.
If I rapped and substituted the n word everywhere he uses f@ggot I would be called a racist whether or not I did interviews where I said black people should not take my lyrics seriously.

Jess: Exactly. I don't care if he said he's not serious (but I'd like a link to that interview), the people who listen to his music might take it to heart, and that's not okay.

Considering that as of 2009 he is still doing it I doubt he has changed much.
Sorry, Lance, Mr. Lambert, and Aiken ain’t gonna make it / They get so mad when I call them both fake, it’s / All these f—in’ voices in my head, I can’t take it!”
The Slim Shady rapper muddles the words “fake it’s” so the result sounds just life a hateful gay slur that starts with an f. Get the picture?

It's not that he isn't serious, it's that he claims to use the term "F@ggot" not to refer to homosexuals, but just to people he thinks are dumb/annoying/whatever. I mean I understand where he's coming from to an extent...that word isn't used exclusively as referring to homosexuals in our culture; its more of a generic slang word.

He played Europe last year. The festivals he played (T In The Park, Oxegen) asked him not to sing any songs against homosexuals. He agreed with the terms. But I don't know how that worked out..

Woaahhh, SO not okay with that. "f@g" is a derogatory term meaning "gay," and when it's used as a "generic slang word," that makes it even fucking worse! The word being used like that means that, in that context, calling someone gay is a huge insult, and THAT makes me SO angry. Don't try to rationalize Eminem's bullshit, he's hateful, and Bonnaroo is NOT the place for him.

Alright so if I start to dual use the word hipster, to not only mean a fan of independent music with a mustache tattoo on his finger, but also a coward, loser, and child molester that is cool?
Look at that hipster on the news going to jail for molesting all those children.

I think those are terms he would probably be held to with Bonnaroo as well. I don't think he is homophobic, but I think his references to homosexuals in his songs can be taken as offensive. Having him headline would definitely be a change of pace and tone for most Bonnaroo headliners (including Jay-Z and Kanye)
If Dre headlined, the new album is supposed to be quite different from all of his previous. Even if the first single, "Kush" sounds like something he did in the past. It is supposed to be less about NO NO WORD!!!. Indie rock has had such an influence into Jay-Z, Kanye, and Kid Cudi's most recent works, I'm interested to see if it has effected Dre at all.
Do you really think that any of these people are going to Headline? It's a pretty exclusive slot.
I will not go near anything that Eminem is involved with and frankly the idea that he would not sing "offensive songs" and somehow that would make it acceptable really bothers me.
So what comes next? We don't mind if you beat your wife, just don't do it on the farm?
Of course I'm not a huge fan of the genre in general because of the misogynistic tone. Personally I don't pay money to be called a bitch or any other derogatory term. Keep him off the farm or you may have fewer women than usual out there as well.

I don't like classic music. But I don't complain if any of those artists would be there. Enough to enjoy.

What is your point? Not liking a genre because of musical tastes is one thing. Not liking it because it includes incitations of violence against women and homosexuals is another.

My point? I tought that poster was explaining that she doesn't like the genre so that's the reason Em can't play.
That's silly. Because other people may enjoy Em or other artists from that genre.
I remember reading, sort of recently, Wyclef saying that there would never be a Fugees reunion. Outkast is the only reunion I could imagine being the headliner. I feel we are missing someone too, I just cannot think of who.

First off, I understand the anti- Eminem sentiment on here. That guys has said some really terrible things in his lyrics regarding almost every minority. (Women, Homosexuals, ect.) So I would be surprised If Eminem were to headline for that reason. That being said, It is a bit unfair to paint an entire genre of music as misogynistic. Many hip hop artist shy away from destructive and derogatory lyrics. ( And personally, I think that Bonnaroo has been good at booking "positive" hip hop acts.) And even though hip hop artist tend to be male, their are several females still holding it down. I mean, Nikki Minaj and Jean Grae are two of my favorite MC's right now.

Listen to the Marshall Mathers LP, it is a DIRECT RESPONSE to people like you. yes, its filled with anger and hate towards bitches, faqqots and quite frankly everyone under the sun but its done in such a satirical manner. if you continue to criticize him for talking about murder and hate then you are also the one who fed him his best material, so thanks.
hes not a big thugish dude who pop a cap in everyones ass, deep down hes a scared little kid who was picked on and neglected. Hes also a very smart dude and found an intelligent way to vent his anger and it is through music. I dont see how you can knock him for this. Hes rapping because hes one of the best to ever do it, you should be glad he only talks about the Leno he does and isnt actually out there doing it. And, its an insult to all of his fans intelligence if you think they hear this and then want to go out and do the Leno he talks about.
I never knew I.. I never knew I.. Mic check one-two I never knew I.. Who woulda knew? I never knew I.. Who'da known? I never knew I.. quack would've thought I never knew I.. mutherquacker comes out I never knew I.. and sells a couple of million records I never knew I.. Eminem So who's bringin the guns in this country? (Hmm?) I couldn't sneak a plastic pellet gun through customs over in London And last week, I seen a Schwarzaneggar movie where he's shootin all sorts of these mutherquackers with a uzi I sees three little kids, up in the front row, screamin "Go," with their 17-year-old Uncle I'm like, "Guidance - ain't they got the same moms and dads who got mad when I asked if they liked violence?" And told me that my tape taught 'em to swear What about the make-up you allow your 12-year-old daughter to wear? (Hmm?) Considering that's not a socially accepted use of the word, probably not. I'm not condoning the childish use of his language, but IMO to paint him as a person who hates homosexuals is a bit of a stretch.
Maybe he is a homophobe; but people need to also be open to the fact that he is using words with connotations not always correlating to their literal meaning.
