God this thread took the turn for the god awful and misinformed.
If you want to write off Kanye as a hack because he uses samples, then you have to write off all of hip hop. Licensed to Ill is nothing but other peoples songs with the Beasties rapping over it, and yet somehow no one is challenging the Beastie Boys legitimacy as artists.
if you are going to write off all of hip hop because of sampling, thats your loss. and that painting of oranges analogies is the most ridiculous way of trying to compare rock and roll bands to hip hop producers. if you honestly think anyone is a more talented artist simply because they can play the guitar or drums instead of just knowing how to manipulate sounds in a digital media then good luck to you
edit: also dont think that just because of how large a role sampling has played that there arent original musical compositions written by these guys. they are talented enough to create their own guitar riffs, bass lines, drum beats etc its just that a lot of the time they know someone else has come up with something they love but they just wanna tweak it into their own thing
Need the stress kit? It's only a few pages back...

i know john legend & the roots haven't been billed as headliners for other festivals so far. however the roots have been a band that have played bonnaroo a bunch like my morning jacket and kol. kol obviously got there chance to headline last year and mmj gets it this year. so i would be happy to see the roots get the spot. they can play for hours and with mos def and kweli being there they could turn it into a pretty huge set. probably not what is going to happen but would be pretty awesome.

ya. id say if dre is ready for the grammys which will air in front of millions of people, he's probably going to be ready for roo.
Yes, because guesting on one song at an indoor, heavily produced event in Los Angeles is the same as a brand new outdoor festival set in Tennessee.
no its not the same. but for ONE, they JUST finalized dre's negotiations for him to be at the grammys. Detox is finalized, meaning Dre doesnt have to put any more work into it. That leaves him a little short of 4 months to practice, make his show truly something special, practice some more, and then tie up any lose ends that may prevent him from putting on an amazing late night headline spot. It's truly not hard to learn an hour-3 hr long set (which musicians do everyday), especially when its your own music, especially when your a professional musician, and ESPECIALLY if youve been listening to the same 12 tracks (or however many are on detox) over and over and over and over again perfecting them for, oh lets see, how long has it been since detox has supposed to released? years?
Basically I'm saying, the grammy's arent going to book Dr. Dre if there was even a miniscule possibility of anything going wrong, or Dre not looking good on stage. It's his first live performance in over a decade, so to come out sounding like shit, even Dre knows he wouldnt say yes to if not prepared. He's got enough time, so when he does get announced on Tuesday don't be disappointed! I know I wont ;D
After the Grammys, he might be getting ready to promote and market Detox and then start working on an actual tour. Something he had mentioned in recent interviews. I don't think he would prep solely for Bonnaroo, I can see a tour at some point.
yes and kol only played three times before getting to headline. anyways i know its never going to happen because for one the roots don't have an awful song like use somebody burning up the charts. just saying that if roo was to book someone thats not eminem, lil wayne or kanye that would be just as good because they can play for hours and have it be a very wide range of music.

this IS where we go or hip hop speculation right?? k . great. give me mos def , talib, big boi , em/ dre and jcole or wiz khalifa and i will be more than stoked for the hip hop progression at roo. Last year was great with wale and b.o.b topped off with jay-z. what an amaing stage presence. keeping my fingers crossed for up in smoke

I'm not saying never, but after all the crap Kanye got from the Roo fans and after all the shit Kanye said about Roo, I don't see him returning to the farm any time in the near future. His last appearance was such a mess that why would either one (Roo and Kanye) be interested in reliving that nightmare?
