This thread is much appreciated, there were a LOT of pages to wade through in the Headliner Speculation Thread.
These headliners are actually pretty darn good. I must admit, I was expecting more grizzled vets at the top of the bill (see Paul Simon, Prince, The Rolling Stones, CSNY etc.), but the current leaks are quite intriguing. Of course, Robert Plant and WSP are no young punks...
Moreover, the back and forth over whether AF is worthy of top-5, top-8, or top-whatever billing misses the point IMHO. They're a great live band. I haven't had occasion to see the Black Keys live, but I'm looking forward to it.
As to whether the primetime acts announced will fill the top of the bill, well, we're going to have to wait and see. I am fairly certain, though, that the headliners already leaked cost some serious coin, and if there is a huge act still under wraps (in addition to the unnamed hip-hop headliner that's gotta be Dre and friends), then it's probably only one, maybe two.
And I say maybe two not b/c there are probably 2 huge bands in the weeds, but sometimes opinions vary as to whether a band should be listed 10th, or 4th, depending on your taste!
Cannot wait for June!!!
Edit: And the Gorillaz...you don't have to classify them as hip-hop, but it would be awfully tough to begrudge someone who did.
wow...surprising the big saturday headliner will be a rap act. kinda disappointing for me.
^This. I never would have guessed the tenth anniversary, top-billed act would be a hip-hop artist. Very surprising. However, I love how the lineup is shaping up otherwise and it will be one of the best weekends of my life regardless!
i think everyone is either surprised or dissapointed in the news of the sat night hip hop headliner. even if it is Dre and company. Go back to your roots Bonnaroo!!!!
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

@ theshining...I will give them this, at least they are not just rehashing some other band. With that being said, based on that song, I see myself resting up for LN if they are unopposed. I am still open to checking out an album, though.
sexysadie...I didn't say I hadn't heard OF them, just not more than a few minutes of one song (that I know of). And I don't usually "want" to get into a band, it just kinda happens.

I'm totally cool with a hip hop headliner. Way more interested in that than the arguably rootsy headliner Dave that we got last year.
Or the washed up, over the hill, can't sing anymore, stuffs the gut in black leather pants, rock and roll legend headliner?
I don't really see how you are expecting a Bonnaroo without at least one overpaid, over the hill, under-performing act from the annals of rock history.

If it's not Kanye, then I don't really want a rap headliner. And I was at that late night/early morning disaster in 2008. Dark Twisted Fantasy is a really, really good album. I can't really get excited about Dre or Eminem. Eminem has really negative vibes in basically every one of his songs, and Dre's new song Kush or whatever, was totally lame.

lol @ listening to one or two AF songs and deciding off of that that you dont like them. That would be like listening to two random Radiohead songs and deciding you didnt like them based on those two songs. (Just using them as an example since you have that as your profile picture.)
Do yourself a favor, listen to Funeral all the way through a few times. It might not click for you on first listen but after a few listens it should start to grow on you. Arcade Fire like most great bands is not a band that you can just listen to one or two songs and know everything about them based on that. You actually have to listen to their albums all the way through, thats the way they were meant to be heard.

Loverboy are touring. And there are some June dates open ;D

First of all, if you missed it, I said I was still open to listening to an album. It's not like I have to decide today if I'm going to see their show. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I like the idea of forcing a band on myself. There are plenty that I like without working at it, you know? I don't have a "need" to like this band because it's cool to.

I'm just skeptical into thinking they need another big name to draw attention. As happy as Arcade Fire and MMJ make us, they aren't exactly mega headliners that will draw in casual music fans that make up a huge portion of ticket sales. Even if it is Dr. Dre & Eminem or Gorillaz on Saturday, the other big acts will be AF, MMJ, WSP and Massive Attack. I don't see the people that sit on the fence or don't know enough music to go deep in the undercard to drop hundreds of $ and a trip to Tennessee for those bands, as happy as they make us. Like it or not they still have to sell tickets and the bands that usually do that are the big ones with huge mainstream appeal, household name bands that make up the top line (your Stevie, KoL, DMB, Bruce, Tom Petty, Jay-Z, etc.). I could be wrong, but I'd just be very surprised to see no huge megastar on there to generate ticket sales to the skeptics.

It's not my loss if I end up liking them... I am going to listen to more of their stuff. I don't know how much clearer I can put it. I didn't think you were trying to be an ass, just that you didn't understand what I meant. Which is, I didn't like either of the two I've heard so far and that I'm not going to listen to a band just because a bunch of other people do.

420scooter I'm glad you took in that clip and I agree with you that you shouldn't just get into a band because you want to or because people think you should. I won't say give this album or that album a listen to a few times either for those same reasons but you really ought to give them at least the first 15 minutes of their set to decide if you should stick around for the rest.
I have said before on inforoo recently that every time I have seen AF it has been with at least one person who doesn't know them/ is iffy on them. Every time their set has finished these noobs have been jaw dropped by the performance. This hasn't always led to them becoming fans or even becoming fans of AF albums but they have always been glad they witnessed the live show.
AF and MMJ back to back in any order is ridiculous, can't wait!
Hey man its your loss. Just trying to tell you you shouldnt write off a great band based on one or two songs, wasnt trying to be an ass.
Not everyone likes the same music, and even though you think this one band is sooooo special and you just have to listen to their album a few more times and then you'll love it, and oh my god how can you dismiss them if you haven't seen them live???, some people just aren't going to like some bands. Get over it.
(Disclaimer: This is a general rant about something that's been bothering me on the forum, and may not apply perfectly to this specific person's experience with Arcade Fire)
Any fence sitter who decides that the line-up as we currently know it (with whatever huge or not huge Saturday adds are being negotiated) is not good enough to head to Bonnaroo will not be missed. I would love a smaller crowd than the last few years any day. Less time waiting on the highway to get in, waiting in line for water, elbowing your way into the little shade there is, would be a welcome relief
Wu Tang live on stage is not nearly as much fun as it sounds, I promise. Easily one of the most disappointing shows I've seen, and I didn't even pay the $50 asking price for the tickets.
Disagree, one of the best shows I saw last year. You gotta have Method Man present though, he really gets things going.

Damn dude why so hostile. I was just trying to say that you shouldnt write off a great band based on watching a few videos on youtube which was the impression I got from the guy i was responding too. I know damn well that music is subjective but I always like it when people try to turn me on to good music so I was just trying to do the same thing, not trying to force my opinon anybody.
