Remember when Kanye and Pusha weren't embarrassments?
That would imply that I think they're embarassments now. Which I don't. Kanye consistently puts out great stuff (with the occasional misstep, usually because he gets too pop/electro) and IMO Pusha's last tape, Fear of God II, was terrific. Still gets a lot of play from me.

Kanye makes good music point blank...I think his "summers breezeness" out shines that sometimes IMO

Lost in the recent deification of Kanye West among all fronts (popular/mainstream music, both mainstream and backpack hip hop, Pitchfork-approved, hipster-friendly mainstream artists) is the fact that the man still puts out plenty of dreck. The only difference is that it tends to show up on other people's albums - check some of the stuff he's produced for other people. He makes plenty of garbage, it's just that his highs are better than almost anyone else's.
I still hear Kanye verses that make me stop and realize how gifted he is as a pure emcee. I still think Kanye is very good, with his bad moments, but I wish he wasn't all about trying to blow people away with his production (both musically and with his performances) and just concentrated on what made him famous in the first place: his emcee skills and songs that told a story.
People only want to hear about how awesome and rich you are so many times.

Totally agree with this. The early stuff where he's talking about working hard at his craft and being overlooked and having the passion for so many things tops the "look at how baller I am now" stuff.

I went a little over the top with the embarrassment thing. But these last few songs and WTT are p embarrassing. I'm sure when he gets serious again, he will be fine.
I didn't really love either of the Fear of God's that much, so maybe I'm just not as much of a Pusha fan as you are.

I can't post videos from work, but can everyone please just Google "Liknuts?" (I swear to God that's not a joke.) New collab album coming from Tha Alkaholiks and the Beatnuts. The first track is f*cking fierce.

Little Brother would be great, but I don't see it happening. Doubtful they get back together this soon. I could see a Phonte/9th Wonder set though (and it would be awesome).
I'm loving the "90's hip-hop acts make collaborative albums" trend right now. LikNuts, Wu-Block, and I guess Random Axe (though Guilt and Black Milk aren't really 90's, but whatever). Just straight up ignorant-ass rap music to counteract all the garbage emo whining skinny pants bullsh*t. I know the BigGhostface blog is a joke, but I would pay $100 to see Ghost beat Drake with a belt onstage at SummerJam while Sheek Louch and Styles giggle in the background.

The Nas album has its moments, for sure.
But goddang, am I tired of Nas trying to be deep. It's getting to be absolutely painful listening to him try and cram political subtext, or statements about the plight of women, or anything else even remotely "thoughtful" into nearly every damn song. He needs to realize that he is, first and foremost, a very skilled MC and stick to that.

Anyone wanna try something out? I'm trying to come up with a personal top hip-hop producers list and was wondering what y'all's thoughts were. Let's do top...20.
