Howdy, I'm new.. But not to Bonnaroo ..
I'm really curious about the Comedy Tent acts. I actually just posted on FB on the likelihood of Tosh since he released his tour dates. It'd be a tough turnaround but I know others have done it.
If the bookers get a big comedy act, I hope they can play the What Stage. I got a really bad case of sun poisoning in 2010 waiting for Conan. We got our tickets at 730A, but no one left the line. But seeing Conan was absolutely worth it.
Aside from CK who else would people want to see in the tent? Paul F Tompkins? I finally appreciate him.
I enjoy Tosh a lot. But someone brought up the fact that his intentionally offensive (albeit smart and funny) brand of humor just isn't a fit for bonnaroo.
I didn't realize making wisecracks about recycled internet videos was considered smart humor.
His special "completely serious" is decent. I wasn't referring to his show

He makes me laugh as well, surf. I do not see anything about internet videos smart. I do recognize that not just anybody could get up and make "wisecracks" about them and find success like he has.
Yeah I don't get the recycled jokes thing either. I think his show is hilarious but what do I know most of you people thought cabin in the woods was one of the best movies to come out this year.

The show makes me laugh for 30 minutes a week. That's about all I need out of him. I've always found his stand up (especially "Completely Serious") to be fantastic. I saw his show when he came to Cincinnati in 2010 and he's great live. Solid hour and 10 minute set with 2 openers. Wasn't cheap, even for the bleeds where I was, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
I've only made it into the comedy tent once, for Lewis Black in 2011 and liked it. But I totally agree that a big name comic like Tosh, Aziz Ansari, or Louis CK should just play on the What stage from 9-10 (or whatever) before the headliner. Limiting a huge act like that to just 2 shows in a tiny tent isn't really fair. Hell, even just put them on the Which stage before that evening's headliner there (so, like 7-8).
Still, performing standup comedy on an outdoor stage where there's a ton of crowd noise hast to be less than ideal. There's a reason most comics post notices on the doors before you walk in to not call out to them and that the lights are dimmed so they can't really see the audience.

i don't think there is anything at this point that makes someone (musician or comedian) "not a fit for bonnaroo" except for maybe extreme death metal/black metal bands like gorgoroth or some shit. i mean amy schumer played last year and many people find her offensive. pretty sure anthony jeselnik played a couple years back and tons of people think he's offensive. i mean, c'mon, gwar had a late night set. they fake rape and kill celebrities on stage (and its amazing).

I've seen GWAR before. In 1995. Their show is definitely fun and hilarious.
You may be right about nothing isn't a fit, I mean they had Kylesa and The mighty Opeth in 2011. But if any comedian I would say isn't a fit for Roo it would be tosh.
I'm a fan of his. It's more, idk, contrary to Roo spirit I guess? Hard to explain.

I would love to see Tosh but realistically Im not gonna get a chance to see his set. That comedy tent is too small and its impossible to get in for the big acts unless you wait on line for hours. They need to get a bigger comedy tent or put comedians on the which stage
I suppose he could have a daytime noon set on Sunday. Seems very unlikely though.
If he does a set at Bonnaroo it will be on Friday.
It would definitely open up some of the stages and tents if he was there. I could only imagine the line to get tickets knowing how packed was for Aziz last summer.
