Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I have slight connections to a promoter in the Northeast/Southeaster Canada region and I mentioned to him Daft Punk and asked if they had heard anything about touring or possible festival shows. Like the Billboard.com report a couple days ago he said the same thing, festivals are offering them headlinging spots however, they have been turning them down.
They will NOT tour in support of the Tron soundtrack and will look to have new material out before going on tour. It's looking like fall/winter at the earliest, if at all in 2011.
At least with the reasoning provided by Billboard, it doesn't seem like they're not there because they're not touring, but because they just wouldn't be ready for live shows.
That means they're completely open to being booked for festivals, as long as they feel they can be "prepared" by the date. If the tour is supposed to start in Late Summer, then I think they might be ready by Bonnaroo.
I'm really really holding out for them, but late summer =/= early June.
I was anticipating them hardcore due to the creator of this thread but i've now lowered my expectations. Damn would it make me a happy man though.

So if not Daft Punk for the big electronic act, what do you guys think is more possible? I feel like Deadmau5 won't happen again. Coachellas got the Chemical BRothers lined up. Or maybe just a bunch of smaller electronic acts??? Whachu think?

I would personally be more than happy to have Deadmau5 again... but maybe Tiesto again, Sasha/Digweed?

I wish that Roo would go out on a limb and grab someone interesting to fill the electronic slots. Tiesto, Oakenfold, Sasha, all no longer relevant dinosaurs at this point who continue to tour because there are always new Molly swallowers who haven't yet seen them. At best, these guys are Lunar acts now.
LCD Soundsystem was solid last year as were Bassnectar and Deadmau5. I'm hoping they grab some interesting acts like that or someone putting on a unique set to fill out the 2-3 LN tent slots.
Juggs, if you like Basement Jaxx's catalog more than Daft Punk's, that's your call, but you're talking out of your ass when saying they're just as "relevant" or "vital" as DP.
I saw Moby live here at a festival in Chicago. Wasn't that impressed. Boys Noize was before him, and that's what blew my mind. I have my fingers crossed for Boys Noize.

First of all I wouldn't show up to any of the three acts you mentioned, but they're not bad grabs. If there was nothing going on that night (and given Bonnaroo I don't count on it) those wouldn't be terrible acts to hit up.
That said, there are electronica acts I would prefer over Daft Punk. Basement Jaxx for one; call them irrelevant if you want, but being a college-age kid right now I can tell you that Daft Punk is about as irrelevant. Personally I'd rather see Basement Jaxx, just because I've had a lot more fun with their catalogue than I think I could eve have with Daft Punk's. That and (based on past speculation) I've heard DP costs more than Supefly has ever felt worth spending on one act that isn't a rock legend. There's plenty other actually cool dance/electronica acts I would love to see that would cost a fraction of Daft Punk's asking price, such as Crystal Castles, M83, James Blake, Caribou, Delorean, Yacht, Justice... All those artists combined probably cost less than Daft Punk, and there's no doubt in my mind which I'd rather have.
At the end of the day I will content myself knowing that one of our headliners is not in any way an Iberian monarch of any form.
mxh, I, too, am college-aged and Daft Punk is soooo not irrelevant. I liked your list of smaller electronic artists, though.
Yeah recording a soundtrack for a bad Disney movie really increases your relevancy when it has been 7 years since the last album you put out. Maybe they will get the guy from Phoenix to sit back in and they can do an acoustic set of their old emo catalog.

Yeah, I agree it wasn't their best work. It was what it was supposed to be, a film soundtrack.
I haven't seen the movie, but I've listened to the soundtrack a few times and it isn't anything more than OK, in my opinion. Still, people were pretty excited about it when it was released, which to me proves DP's prevailing relevancy.

Disagree. Daft Punk gets by on Pitchfork-fueled hipster adulation, because they're seen as "cool" by the idiot masses since they tour with a totes amazing light show, brah.
Meanwhile, among people who actually enjoy electronica/house, Basement Jaxx would win, hands down. Daft Punk may be a "bigger" name, but it's kind of like how Kings of Leon is a bigger name than My Morning Jacket. Among people who really know, MMJ makes more vital, interesting, relevant music. See what I'm saying?
Oh, and:
Rooty > Discovery Remedy > Homework Kish Kash/Crazy Itch Radio/Scars > Human After All/Tron
Strongest rumor I've heard is that it will indeed be live, full-band, similar to what they did in 2009, except this time they're debuting new material instead of just touring behind a record. Apparently the new record won't be out until fall. I guess they toyed with the idea of touring with an orchestra (they're playing with one this month, in Denmark, I think?) but figured that it would be too costly. Word is they're hitting the "major festival circuit." Was shocked they weren't on Coachella's lineup.

Wait, are you saying you have inside info that Basement Jaxx might be at Bonnaroo? I thought you were just speckalatin'.

This would be an automatic ticket purchase for me.
