You just don't like his singer songwriter stuff? Understandable. But I think all the eps make up the whole of this album. He pushed everything together and then wrote lyrics and played with usual singer-songwriter conventions. I think it works really well.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Not sure if this Akron/Family leak is real or what, but it's incredible. The songs are absolutely stunning, with a really balanced attack of rockers and slow-paced space outs. They have always had a knack for creating memorable melodies, and this is no different; I feel the instrumental work on this album is unmatched in their discography. It's always on the verge of bursting into chaos so though the music is very controlled and driven, it all feels very loose and free. Love these guys. Hopefully Roo gets them.

^^^^ This is an amazing offering from Sam. Not your traditional breathy, minimalist Iron and Wine. Splashes of 70's funk, jazz, and synth pop intertwine around his never disappointing contemplations on life and love and happenstance.

Digging it so much.
I'm just at the end of my first listen. It's freaking amazing! I'm not a huge Iron and Wine fan at all but I can tell I'll have this on repeat.

You're a lot more positive than I am. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but the initial listen still left me underwhelmed. Although, and it's difficult to imagine now, The Shepherd's Dog was a grower in its time as well.
Yeah I'm with you, Steve. I was disappointed with Beam's effort on this one. I wasn't too in tune with the lyrics on the first time around, just kind of listening to the music as a whole, and the musical themes and elements were really unpleasant to me. I actually really loved The Shepherd's Dog on first listen too..
Thats right. A 60 disc GD box set .... and it's only $450?!? Again I say thank god for financial aid. Perhaps this education thing might pan out this year.

yea I wish I had that money just lying around. This set must be amazing. I'd have to dedicate a whole summer just to listening to it.

Haha, the Grateful Dead video game article
Curious Sense founder Adam Blumenthal intends to query Deadheads to find out what kind of games turn them on. But don't expect any drug references in the project. "There's no collecting of LSD as you move around the parking lot," he said.

Times like this I wish I had a better job or could win the lottery..... Although really, I probably have at least 75% of what is in it. Well maybe not... Didn't realize it was all the Europe 72 recordings.... Wow!
