The new weezer album came out Tuesday bearing this image on the cover:
I'm with Rivers... the more I look at this picture, the more I love it too.
I haven't been this excited over a new weezer album since Maladroit. I dare say this is the first time a weezer album has outdone its predecessor since 2002.
As far as a comparison to previous albums, I would say this one falls somewhere between Maladroit and Make Believe, leaning more towards the former. It might not have been evident from their recent efforts, but it appears Rivers still has a bit of fire in his belly. Some of the snarls and screams you hear at points could just as easily be coming from Cobain or Frank Black. Guest appearances worth noting: Ryan Adams, Michael Cera on mandolin, and the Jackass crew on gang vocals.
There's still a few tracks that fall flat, particularly in comparison to some of the superior tracks included on the deluxe edition. Most distressing to me was the use of a "gosh dang" in lieu of taking the Lord's name in vain as would have been the case in their prime. Made me feel old.
That's kind of the point. From the opening track/lead single "Memories" reminiscing on band antics from the past through the closing track "Time Flies," Hurley is by and large a midlife crisis album. As a guy who just turned thirty, that suits me just fine.
If I have to recommend one track, I choose "Brave New World," which I was surprised to see was co-written by former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Linda Perry.

I agree with ^. It's not necessarily a good album, but it's certainly a lot closer to their old stuff than the shit they've been putting out. And it's got a few songs that I really like.
Yes... Hurley is good enough to forgive Raditude as far as I'm concerned.
I'd say it's around the midpoint of their overall catalog, but as far as their 2000s post-comeback output is concerned it's definitely one of the better ones. I say it's neck-and-neck with the Green Album for being ranked 4th as far as the entirety of their official releases.
ahh, you tricked me into listening to that song that you posted. i mean, yea it's better than most of the crap they have done the last 10 years but it's still not great.
