I agree, they only have like two weeks and are just trying to get their fuck on, let them PARTY!!!!
just wondering how did you get this past the filter?
Because he is Scrog and has his own set of rules.
Ps. These things are fuckin gross. Mind you all cyclic, swarming broods are. We get Caterpillars (SP?) here every 7 years I think...trees look like they are crawling.

While I can put aside my personal aversion to legions of hellbugs swarming the farm, it occurs to me that if they are still around come Bonnaroo time, they could potentially ruin the day shows.
Seeing as most stages are on the outside perimeter of Centeroo, there are trees in back/to the sides. From what I've researched, under trees are where the large masses of cicadas will group, and their daytime mating call can exceed 120 decibels. Guess what a loud rock concert rates? 115 decibels! So the cicada song, coming just feet away from the daytime acts, will be approximately 4 times louder than the bands!
If this is accurate, maybe the Bonnaroo organizers can be proactive. A couple of simple fixes come to mind: prune back the patch of trees a good distance, or (bearing in mind cicadas begin their 6 week cycle when the ground temp reaches 64 degrees), artificially heat the ground in those areas in the next couple weeks to induce an early start to the process and insure they will be done by Bonnaroo time. The latter could probably be achieved with simple black tarps laid on the ground...
If any of the above reasoning is wrong, please rebut it and make us feel better!
Has any research ever been done on how cicadas respond to corn? maybe its time for the Roo community to make our mark in the annals of science. Just sayin'

Well there are not enough trees as it is so I do not think they should prune them back. Also having been through this before, and been to 5 bonnaroo's I think you can rest assured the stages are louder than the cicadas...

Try getting bit by a brown recluse then you will truly fear the insect kingdom like me. And a Rottweiler as well. I have been munched on everything in the animal kingdom has to offer except for a reptile. I alway worry about Bonnaroo Camping because of snakes but if its your time its your time. On a side note if you ever get a brown ecluse bite you will not know it for several days a rottweiler bite yes. I would have rahter had that dog chew my whole leg then have got bit by that spider. Cicadeas are weak sauce they will make noise thats it they wont be trying to cover you like your a beekeeper or something

Zen, when you get wrestled off by cicadas I'll fight the urge to say "I told you so"
ok, fair enough. but unless the radiation from Japan gets to Manchester and invades the hibernating brood, I still ain't worried.
If all else fails I'll use diplomacy of some sort. or corn. or I'll sing my best operatic aria....that'll scare them away....lol. (Shades of MarsAttacks!)
