This was my 5th Roo and I had a great time but did notice the commercialization of it all. 1)Port-o-potties were the second worse I have ever seen. I never saw a cleaning truck until Sunday for ANY of the potties which is quacking crazy considering how many people use them. There also seemed to be less johns that usual which also sucks. 09 I believe was the best. They were everywhere and also were cleaned often. 2)I didn't have a problem getting thru the gate security, but had a MAJOR problem with the security walking around inside Centaroo. I had three cans of beer taken and was told you can't bring cans in to Centeroo. Well if I don't bother anyone and recycle the can afterwards what's the problem? I think paying $6-$7 for a beer is nuts and I'm sure that is why I got mine taken away. I even saw security tell this couple that were laying down they couldn't sleep in Centeroo and had to go to their campsite to do that. They were just naping before Galatic came on. Stupid leno. 3)The laid back vibe appears to be dimming. My neighbors were yelling degrading comments to EVERYONE that walked by. Just no need in that and really was a downer to me.
While we all have complaints, I still think that Roo is a blast and will keep going back until it just becomes to commercialized to be called Roo anymore. The lineup was a bit weak so I hope they make up for it next year.
okay, thanks a lot for reminding me of all the bad things you fucking negative nancies
yes, we got pulled over and had our stuff taken by the rv raiding police
security was being gay as far as what we were allowed to do. harassing the cars... or welcome wagon... i called welcome wagon
potties... disgusting
heat... oh god
but uhm... guess what? i completely forgot about all of that because i was there to have a good time. i met nothing but AMAZING people, which makes me think that the vibes you receive are mostly a reflection of your own.
about the drugs, chill the fuck out people. everyone i was with was sharing, i shared what i had i know that at one point i was smoking with random strangers... things were easy to obtain. and as far as security went well... be fucking smart. go to the fastest moving lines
aside from the bizarre "shake your bra" requests they were nice, didnt dig around my bag, clean sweep i even took in open beer
okay maybe it was first time "awe" but honestly, this was the highlight of...my life. we hung out with people who were veterans and they seemed just as happy with the experience.
love and you will be loved. i know me and my friend will be back... ready to have another amazing time
This was my first Bonnaroo. We made it to Manchester at 3pm, and were in line until 11pm when we got into the first tollbooths near Exit 111. I had talked the marketing folks at my company www.bluecotton.com into printing up 25 t-shirts and 25 handtowels with our logo on it to giveaway to folks at the water stations, friendly neighbors and what-not. These were promptly confiscated at the gate. They were in a box under a bunch of other crap, and the security guy was a real punk about it. He said "Anything that looks like it could be sold, you can't have." I explained that we weren't selling it (as if anybody would buy a t-shirt with only a company logo on it?!) So that was a downer. I was really looking forward to giving these away. I asked him to give them to his staff, and to PLEASE not throw it away. He looked really confused about this, and disappointed that I wasn't throwing a fit. Oh well. Must remember to pack them under loads of feminine hygiene products next year.
We were towing a pop up camper, and nobody directing traffic really knew what to do with us. Nobody directed us anywhere. Luckily I had the Bonnaroo app on my iphone, so when I saw another pop-up alone in Roger Murdock, we just pulled in next to it. Roger Murdock was completely empty except for the other pop up. A few tent campers came in and set up throughout the weekend, but it was 3/4 empty. The proximity to Centeroo and the having the entire field to ourselves kinda made up for the long wait, and lack of direction.
We had a lot of foot traffic from day parking, no problems with theft, solid neighbors (the few we had), and the portos weren't that bad in our area. I can't really complain about anything...except the dern heat.
We pounded waters in the morning, and took open water bottles into centeroo every single time we went in. Multiple bottles. Never had to get in line for water.
Seriously, can't Bonnaroo get a water sponsor? Can't Aquafina or somebody step up to the plate and provide bottled water for free or for a nominal price like $1.00/bottle and just have that Leno in ice troughs every 100 feet?

I'll try not to repeat what everyone else has already mentioned, but some repetition is inevitable. Some things I take issue with I definitely blame AC. Other things are completely beyond their control.
-Traffic, enough has been said about this.
-The security was WAY over the line on several occasions in my opinion. Security guards went through my wallet twice going into Centeroo. Including one time accidentally dumping my credit cards, ID, etc. on the ground at night. They counted my cash both times they went through my wallet.
I don't know if anybody had mentioned this earlier, but some of the guards were high as hell. Especially Saturday latenight. The guard that dumped the contents of my wallet on the ground actually grabbed ahold of me to balance himself while searching me. I had a couple strangers mention it to me after I got in. On second thought I should have reported him, but I try to mind my own business and have a chill time. Plus who wants to miss some of a show to deal with that.
-Water was so difficult to get inside, yet the guards still made my wife dump out her nalgene and camelbak everytime. My wife is completely straight laced and doesn't even drink. She was highly annoyed at the lack of consistent searches. Several people carried in open beer cans right behind us.
-The biggest bummer of the weekend was trying to get our tanks pumped in the RV. It was extremely difficult to run somebody down, when I did I was appalled at how it worked. We had no problems with that in the past. The standard pump fee is $50 which is pricey, but I'm fine with that given there are no real alternatives. The drivers this year wanted you to pay the dump fee PLUS some extra cash in order for them to pump your tank. They were literally encouraging people to bid against each other to bribe them. I ended up paying $50 pump fee plus a $25 BRIBE to the driver. Several people around us paid the same or more to get their tanks pumped.
It was a new company in charge of porta potties and RV pumping this year. The guy who pumped my tank told me so. He said he was supposed to be pumping porta potties, but was pumping RVs because he could make some extra cash. That might explain why the porta potties were so bad. Instead of taking care of them, drivers were scavenging bribes in the RV lots.
-I don't know if it was the heat, the traffic, the crowd attracted to the lineup, or just my personal experiences, but the crowd was just on edge for most of the weekend. I just didn't feel real comfortable walking around by myself latenight in my state of mind. Of course this is not AC's fault, and probably more my own perception more than anything.
-We were completely dicked over for comedy tickets for Conan and Aziz. It was a clusterfuck. Ive never had problems seeing a show in the past.
It was still a great weekend, and of course the main reason for being there. The music, was awesome.
I still love Roo, but I have been checking out other options for next year. I never thought I would miss a Roo after I went to my first one, but that might just happen next year. I'm definitely NOT buying tickets before the lineup is announced next year.

A) $20 to the kid checking my car got my bottles in B) This video I took I think says how cool Bonnaroo was this year, the most diverse crowd all singing along in unity to Forever Young..I filmed mostly the crowd..see if you can find yourself
I'll admit I did complain once about the heat on the last day, but I really do find it hilarious how much people still complain about the weather... You're going to camp out on a huge open field in the beginning of JUNE in TENNESSEE, surrounded by thousands and thousands of people who are just as sweaty and hot as you!!! How cool did you really think it would be??? LOL.
I agree that this has become 'Complaint City' in some ways... I just say, if you're gonna go, suck it up and SHUT UP!
aside from the bizarre "shake your bra" requests they were nice, didnt dig around my bag, clean sweep i even took in open beer
That had nothing to do with security...
I should also ad, I had no problems with security. The first time I tried to get in, the girl told my I couldn't bring my camera in. She seemed a little uncertain of the policy so she called over her supervisor who told me detachable lenses are a no go (which I knew, but didn't have issues with in the past). It seemed like it was her first shift of her first Roo, her supervisor was right there and she was really nice about it, so I let that slide. I just went to a different line and got in no problem.
Hide your smokes well and you'll have no issues. We had nothing taken all weekend. I find it goes a lot quicker if you have all your stuff from your pockets out in your hands and your cig pack open. 9 times out of 10, when they saw me come up with my cigs open, and wallet in hand, they just waved me through with a polite thank you. Once I even stopped to be frisked only to be told "Hahaha, man, I ain't gonna frisk you".
It was easy to pick out the good lines/security guards. I had one guy take my crown and cola, take a sip to test it and the only warning he gave me was "well I should tell you to go back and stiffen this up, but I'll let it slide"

Agreed! I didn't notice much of a difference in the temp compared to last year, except for after the last yrs rain . Sunday was HOT, but I think most of the fatigue was because it was the fourth day!
The security was about the same as I'd seen before. However, there was one guy by the arch(bald guy, white bandanna) and he was getting a little excessive with his searching.
hahah, my husband and i were making fun of this guy everytime we saw him. he was taking his job VERY SERIOUSLY!!! we would just make sure to get in a different line to get in.

My thoughts. It was the first Roo I been to, so I have no other comparisons.
Traffic: I didn't get down there until Friday. Having heard the horror stories of lines from here, and then reading this Thursday morning before leaving, and then hearing of 18-20 mile backups once I got to TN... I waited till Friday rather than try and get down there for a few Thurs night shows.
Weather: I live in New England. The few days before I left, it was in the 60s and sometimes cloudy and rainy. When I got to TN, it was in the mid 90s with a heat index of 105. That is rare for New England. The heat and humidity hit me badly. Every afternoon I was missing shows just to get out of the sun/heat/humdity.
People: I've been to several DMB shows before, it wasn't out of the ordinary to me.
Security: A couple of times I got my stuff looked at more closely, having to open bags and whatnot. But I wasn't drinking down there, had no corn, nothing to hide.
Portos: I used one near the That Tent on Friday night during the Steve Martin show, straight nasty. I dreaded using them the rest of the weekend.
This was my third roo in a row and it may have been the best for me. There is only 4 things that pissed me off this year: the traffic, the heat, the blisters that were on my toes by friday afternoon, and missing a few shows due to my own stupidity. I've heard about the overflowing porto potties, thank god I never ran into that problem. Security was never an issue either. I just unzipped all the pockets to my camelbak and they'd let me right in. I even went in with open bottles. I even walked barefoot most of time and not once got muddy.
for every1 complaining about security, which entrance did you mainly use throughout the weekend??
i used the non-arch entrance (near the ferris wheel) all weekend and had no problem whatsoever with the security.
Saturday late night I used this entrance while "altered" and had my 5+ yr old piece and a lil green ganked by security. I tried to plead with them, I even tried to pay someone in a better state than I was to snatch it off the ground, but I couldn't find one! I probably could have hid it better, but I really wasn't thinking and I've never had issues in the previous 2 roo's I've been to. Oh well, I guess someones getting good use out of it
I thought security was a breeze, maybe my friends and I just look like good people. Opened the trunk, immediately closed it. Didn't have to get out of the car.
Everytime I went into Centeroo I picked the fast line, had my camelbak on my front un-zipped and took everything out of my pockets. The most I got searched was a few pats on my pockets.

i feel like you get searched as much as you allow them to search you
my strategy is to open up both pockets of my backpack and stick it in their faces. i didnt even get patted down once this past year, they just looked through the places i showed them. repeat, they never touched a single pocket all weekend.
my advice, look for the shortest line being run by a girl and in the words of stevie wonder "dont you worry about a thiiing"
aside from the bizarre "shake your bra" requests they were nice, didnt dig around my bag, clean sweep i even took in open beer
They asked you to shake your bra? WTF?! These security people are just usually college students who want to go to the festival and get paid (I know b/c my boyfriend's fraternity happens to work security at Roo as a fundraiser for their chapter)...fuck no am I gonna shake my tits for them. I would've just said "fuck off perv"...I have been places with MUCH tighter security to get in (metal detector wand, frisked, entire contents of pockets/purse/backpack emptied out and gone through, no open cig packs, etc) and have NEVER EVER been asked to "shake my bra"...
I usually breezed through security, holding in my hands the contents of my pockets and my hat, which I'm often asked to remove. One guy patted me down, and his hand went to my belt buckle under my shirt. He tapped it and grabbed it again for a couple very uncomfortably awkward seconds, and asked what it was. "My belt buckle," I said lifting my shirt before he asked me to show him. I'm glad he didn't ask me to undo my pants.
???? I never had any problems with security. Just opened my pack, they would kinda look through it and never got patted down. They did that in any line I was in. Even when I didn't have My pack, I just graabbed the things out of my pocket and just walked in.
The heat was bad, but I'm kinda used to it being that I get in hot stuffy cars all summer (135* +)
As for the portis...everyone that I noticed, the ones on the end were usually a little cleaner. I think that's because MOST people thought that they'd be used more being they'd be the first ones people would come across and avoid them.
