so far. worst organization. half of the shuttle drivers are on something. excessive searches. cops everywhere. obv the line up is hideous. I got a free ticket and it's hardly worth it.
hopefully today will be better.
i am trying to be positive. I heard Ashely Caps has constructed a secret lair entirely constructed out of stacks of $100 bills.
I'm waiting for KOL to end to go to The Black Keys, and I think the music has been fucking AMAZING. Fanfarlo and Mayer Hawthorne were my highlights of yesterday, and punch brothers and the gossip were my by far favorites of today.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
Hmmm last night I was sitting at home thinking "I would still take the worst Bonnaroo over NO Bonnaroo" at this point
Just as I was contemplating taking a year off next year!
I thought I was ok with not going this year because I wasn't excited about the line up - but I'm miserable - just trying to stay busy to keep from thinking about the fact that I could be at Bonnaroo this weekend

Completely agree, especially after seeing a clip from The Flaming Lips' show last night. Since the OP got a free ticket and lack of finances is what kept me from going this year, I'm having trouble finding any sympathy.

I was told someone may have died last night who was carted off on a golf cart while the medical team was giving cpr to him. This year sounds like its filled with rookies who are unaware how to handle themselves.

i love roo but this year was different. it didnt seem as organized and the bathrooms were NASTY and thats never really been anissue. they werent spraying them they were just cleaning them out. its not the fault of the people doing the work. im sure thats what they paid them to do. there seemed to be less free stuff...as in free tents and activites a couple of the new things seem to have little to no interest. people seemed more stressed
i love roo and ill be back but it did seem.....different
i agree with beltwala. no question the music is best thing ever. in that regard bonnaroo is the best place on earth. but the fact that after 9 years they still don't know how to handle the traffic, don't know how to keep toliets clean, water stations working, etc. it's hot out there. people are dying literally. i know, the deaths are probably drugs, but i am really surprised that there are not more deaths caused by the heat and lack of hydration. and on top of that what's with this dumping your water and stuff out before you can go in? i had to dump pout 2 powerades. what if that's all i had? and it sometimes took so long to get water. what if i died in that time? is it worth bonnaroo? in the name of greed. is it worth it? seriously, i am so disenchanted with the whole thing right now.
The unofficial word is that its an inforoo board member, that is all I will post for now. I can't confirm so I will not give more info. If it is, I met him last year.
If it wasn't for the heat, I would rate my first Roo an 8 out of 10. A few complaints:
1) I was camped right next to a main road so EVERY night I had to deal with quacked out people banging on my windows and actually had one guy open my door while I was trying to sleep (I didn't bring a tent so I slept in my car).
2) I know this is a festival and illegal substances are in abundance, but come on people! I'm not here to preach cause I have done quite a few "no no words" but I saw way to many people under the influence and was actually frightened for them due to the heat. IMO if you go to a music festival and miss the music, then whats the point?
I was told by a guy this year that AC told each department head to reduce costs by 30%. It was very evident. Port-o-potties in past years have been cleaned multiple times per day. They were disgusting this year and there were not nearly as many of them. Other examples, the VIP tent behind which had 5 air conditioning units pumped into it last year - just 2 this year. Comedy tent air conditioning reduced from 8 to 4 units. I would think they spent less on bands.
I do not have confirmation on the 30% cost reduction, but there is no doubt that they DID put in some major cost cutting measures.
I still had a great time, though. Bonnaroo is Bonnaroo and there's a reason we go back every year, even if there are problems.

As belltwala1 said: It was deffinitly different. Everyone I encountered all weekend was stressed, or bothered, or both. It wasn't the usual fun loving, be yourself, help everyone vibe that I've seen tha last 3 years. I'll be going again next year for the 10th, but I sure hope they fix the traffic issue because it was rediculous.

I have to disagree on worst Bonnaroo ever...yes it was hot but it is JUNE in TENNESSEE! I got to hang out with my GIRL Monkey Monkey Joy Joy (although apparently us being together was not as big of a secret as I thought) so it was BEYOND amazing!

I had a great time at Bonnaroo this year, don't get me wrong, but I feel like this was the "cheapest" year in terms of logistics. Portapotties were absolutely disgusting! Never have I seen them this flithy. I'm a festie girl, I can deal with it, but this year was borderline inhumane. There was not enough drinking water, which is the root of the death this year. There need to be more watering stations. 2 watering stations (4 if you count the sinks) are not enough for 80,000 people!
i'm guessing that the which stage didn't get the video monitors a lot of us had been hoping for. how did the size of the crowd compare to previous years? same as last year? less than 08?
Line up wise I was happy!!! Saw who i wanted and wasnt able to see some due to feeling like poop and not able to walk well. I agree that the porta poopers were full to the top. The cops block the on ramp to the hwy in the morn was not cool. Plus Fri night someone messed around in our camp and moved a chair. Then Sat night we came back and our cooler was open. Over all I liked it!!! You learn each yr.
I had an absolute blast, aside from the heat, but just spent the hottest part of the days trying to stay cool. Missed some of the shows I wanted to see, on account of staying cool. but the shows I saw were great, the people I met were great. Met so many cool people. I'll give it a 7.
I didn't go this year but I kinda have to laugh - in a way - because so far what I am reading are the same old complaints that come out every year after Bonnaroo
