i'm guessing that the which stage didn't get the video monitors a lot of us had been hoping for. how did the size of the crowd compare to previous years? same as last year? less than 08?

Here's the thing about the searches, because I've talked to a lot of people about it. The staff that were down by the archway were much less thorough than the ones up by the ferris wheel. The guys by the ferris wheel were ridiculous dickheads. both in terms of searching, and in terms of treating people. The performances were great and I'm not gonna say they weren’t, but a large majority of the staff were just unnecessarily pricks. Not the worst Bonnaroo ever, but they definitely could stand to treat their fans just a bit more decently.

As always I had an awesome time BUT they changed something this year. Logistically this was the worst one that I have attended. Here were the issues I saw:
1. Traffic going into Roo was the worst I have ever seen. I didn't see any cars being sent down Bushy Branch Road or the Winery entrance - were they seriously just using one entrance? 2. The parking people were assholes or just not trained correctly and we had to throw a tantrum to be able to keep 2 cars together. 3. Lack of water stations in Centeroo. I almost passed out in line for water so I went and purchased water. 4. NO water at 2 stations near us at the campgrounds on Friday morning. 5. The port-a-potties were not kept even close to the usual standard that I have seen at Bonnaroo.
On the other hand, my bags were never searched and I was never patted down. Last year I thought that was excessive.
I can't say it was the worst ever, because it was my first. I had a blast the whole time I was there....we came very prepared and had plenty of shade and water during the day. People at the camp next to us were very annoying about their trash...it was piled everywhere...as it was in the whole entire area. I got to see every band I wanted....and I was amazed at how cool people were at the stages. No pushing or shoving or anything...so that was definitely a plus. Saturday night I was taking pictures and two minutes later realized someone stole/found my camera because it wasn't snapped to my purse. I had maybe walked 50 feet. It happened literally in FRONT of lost and found too. It's sad because I had some good stuff..probably around 500+ pictures from Bonnaroo. If that's the only bad thing that happened to me, I guess I should count myself lucky. If I see my footage on youtube I'll pobably be a little upset!
Out of the 4 times I've been to Bonnaroo this was the worst but I still had a blast. My biggest complaint was getting in on Thursday. Got in line at 7:30 AM after a 14 hour drive, waited in line for 8 hours with no bathrooms, no water, no food and sweltering heat only to be told that RVs had to be in a different line. Got in line for the RVs and waited for 2 hours, got to the gate and followed the sign that said "RVs to the right". The guy searching vehicles told us that RVs were suppose to go to the left but he could search us anyways. The girls giving out wrist bands didn't even know what to do with our RV pass. We were still parked in the RV section. The parking guys didn't know what they were doing either. My other complaint was the line for Conan. I got in line at 8 AM and was sitting in the sun for two hours when all of a sudden people started pushing their way in front of me. Security wasn't doing anything about it. I got to the front only to be told that the show was sold out and to go to the lunar stage. I started to leave and when I looked back, I saw that they were still giving out tickets. That was so messed up! Conan should have been on a stage so more people could see his show. Anyways, besides the heat which they can't control (except maybe make more shade) and the schedule conflicts those were my only complaints. I can't wait for Bonnaroo 2011!
ferris wheel security was awesome, twice they just looked at my open bag and said "your good" other times they just lifted up the garbage bag covering my audio gear then let me in. not like i was hiding something anyway.
never searched when going into day parking 3 days, either.

This was one of the smoothest Bonnaroo's for me. I'd say the second best out of four. I agree about the toilets, though, and the line to the filtered water was bad, but you could get trough water easily. And it didn't have a strong sulfur flavor as in years past!

Musically, I have no complaints. Logistically, this was an absolute nightmare. You'd go through security one time and barely get looked at and then another, I had someone rifle through every pocket of my laptop bag, take out all my money and pilfer through every bill, made me take out my laptop, remove it from the baggy I had to keep it dry, and open the thing like I was at the airport.
Accessible was downright horrible. The parking guy wasn't letting anyone into the Accessible Entrance so there was a line of cars two exits up trying to turn around and drive back against the flow of people as the parking attendants up there sent us right back to where we were... Accessible shuttle was horrible too. Of the three times my friend used it, twice he ended up waiting an hour only to have one of the access people (once the access director herself) drive him because the access shuttle guy kept driving off to do regular runs because there was more money in it.
I agree with what everyone said about the vibe too. One of our party who had never been to Bonnaroo picked up on it immediately and said "I thought this was a hippy festival. All I've seen are frat boys and rednecks..."
I always go in really early, so I can't really speak for the traffic situation. However, shit is much more complicated than you would expect
Overall, I thought it was one of the best Bonnaroos yet, but there are a few things I think they messed up on.
Lunar stage: Come on man, electronica needs that thumping bass... I understand that, but don't put it right in between two tents where the bleed through can overpower quieter songs. It should have been near the What stage or something to that effect.
Camel Packs: Yes, I know. People sneak in liquor or other shit in through them. But if you're going to make people empty it out, at least get your water situation under control. The filtered water stations had HUGE lines, and many times it was just a small tiny stream of water.
I have to disagree on worst Bonnaroo ever...yes it was hot but it is JUNE in TENNESSEE! I got to hang out with my GIRL Monkey Monkey Joy Joy (although apparently us being together was not as big of a secret as I thought) so it was BEYOND amazing!
I saw you thursday afternoon, you were talking to some chick near where the ferris wheel was.

How many of you that thought it was soooo soooo awesome have been to other camping festivals besides bonnaroo?
Seriously, i'm going to be blunt, i don't care about whether or not no drug talk is supposed to be on here: There's a problem when i see deputy sheriffs in the grounds multiple times and see the horsebacks working with those sheriffs, there's a problem when people are getting things taken from them and being harrassed by actual sheriffs at their own campsite when they aren't even selling. There's a problem when pot is being taken from attendees because the security at centeroo feels they need to search soooo hard (they even looked through my girlfriend's wallet and counted her money!!! no other fest i've been to searches you this hard, ever.) There's a problem when i don't feel safe enough to trip at a music festival. This is sad. People at a music festival should be a family, a community, looking out for one another, but i watched all of you walk by drug busts, simply ignoring the fact that your brothers and sisters are going to be in prison for years for the doses they probably sold to you earlier that day. There's more than 70/80/90 thousand of us but no one cares enough to stand up for this shit? Jesus fuck, where's the real heads at these days? Open your eyes people, the man has their eyes on you constantly at bonnaroo. You're all getting finger fucked by the man at roo and you people seem to like it. I don't get it.....
I was in Pod 8 and our toilets where clean the entire festival. Every night I saw them being cleaned and hosed down.
As for free water I had no problems. The filtered water and unfiltered stuff all tasted exactly the same to me and I never had to wait for more then a minute to get anything.

Every time I went to any water stations in Centeroo there was a huge line. I never once saw any of them with no line...... Believe me I tried because I bought a refillable filter bottle.
Dude, that stuff illegal. The police have every right to take any they see. And as much as people may hate it, Bonnaroo security is allowed to search every festival-goer and take or prohibit any illegal item from entering Centeroo. When buying the ticket you are agreeing to the terms of attending set forth by Superfly and AC.

your biggest gripe seems to be that the security and police were arresting people that were selling or in possession of illegal substances. i know that festivals are notorious for being much more laid back when it comes to enforcing drug laws......but that doesn't mean that you can do whatever you want.
you're upset that people selling illegal things may go to jail? i know it's bonnaroo and i'm definitely a guy who enjoys his corn and other products.....but when you deal with illegal things, you run the risk of being arrested. it's the risk you take.
as for the pat downs/searches........it's the same every year. lots of people complaining, saying that it was over the line and too intrusive. then you have lots of people who had a totally opposite experience and were barely searched. it's just how it goes. some security guys are going to take their job more seriously and some are just volunteers looking to finish their shift. there's no rhyme or reason for who got extensively searched and who got a glance and a quick patdown........it's just really the luck of the draw.
We had tons of the same complaints at Mountain Jam. lots of people saying they were searched at ridiculous lengths and felt violated, meanwhile I was able to come and go everywhere the whole weekend with out even being patted down.

It was awesome, and I hit usually 4-5 big camping festivals a summer. I have done All Good, Zoe, Trinumeral, Bonnaroo etc... Those guys you are talking about are running a risk to make a profit, sometimes they get the profit sometimes the risk. That is just the way the world goes round.

i thought it was another good roo. the only time i truly noticed anything different about the festival was during jay-z. i looked around and noticed a lot of "frat" guys. everywhere. one thing i've noticed about bonnaroo is every year it takes one more step away from the hippie festival it was and every year it becomes more "mainstream" for lack of a better word. this is just the way things work. when things become popular they attract more people. different people. i still had a blast this year, but once again, it took another step in that direction.

So perhaps this can be chalked up to my being stuffed way back in pod 1, but I didn't see any of this crazy cop business. I had no problem obtaining, consuming, or bringing no no words into centeroo. Our car wasn't even searched. The traffic was bad, and so were the portopotties. At one point after the flips the excrement was above the seat. I brought my own bottled water, so no complaints there. The cigarette situation was disgusting. Fifteen bucks a pack when previously they were free. Despite all this I still enjoyed a delicious weekend.

Also in keeping with the legendary roo hippy spirit, I would never condemn a peson or stereotype them based on appearances. Even if they really were all frat boys and rednecks I don't give a shit. If they're there to have a good time, enjoy the music, and leave me alone, they have as much right to attend as anyone else.

well my complaints are new and i never complained before and, yes, i do go to a lot of festies. the bathrooms were inexcusable - there are no words for it. stuff was stacked up over the top of them inside centeroo so that you couldnt sit down. ive NEVER seen that at any festival. the second was the water situation which was worse this year than its ever been by far. if they want to get more commercial than they also need to clean the freakin bathrooms and get more water accessible to us. i guess we are supposed to spend four bucks per water when the heat index is over 100. im sorry....im a positive rooer but this was NOT the same and not ok.
As belltwala1 said: It was deffinitly different. Everyone I encountered all weekend was stressed, or bothered, or both. It wasn't the usual fun loving, be yourself, help everyone vibe that I've seen tha last 3 years. I'll be going again next year for the 10th, but I sure hope they fix the traffic issue because it was rediculous.
You had a completely different experience then me, because everyone, from people on the board at brunch, to complete strangers while waiting for shows or comedy tent tickets were very talkative and friendly.

Worst thread ever, period. This was my 5th, and best Bonnaroo so far, no doubt. People on Inforoo have the same pussy complaints year in and year out and it gets old. There are still minor issues that the festival has but nothing is perfect, especially an event of this scale with this many people. This was the best weekend of music I have ever experienced in my life. The stage production values were just through the roof this year. Again, it's same whiney bullcrap that spews or of trolls mouths every year on inforoo.
