Hey me and a couple buddies are coming from maryland this year and are planning on picking up a carton of cigarettes before we leave (i know bad habit, =X), but i know that Tennessee is a tobacco state and wondered if cigarette prices are lower there. Around here i usually pay about $35-45 a carton for Newports.
If anyone local to Tennessee could give me some prices they've seen around recently i'd really appreciate it.
Yes for sure, premiums are 5.50 a pack after tax, but you can usually get deals. Right now I get two dollar off packs off Camel Crush's at Mapco and that gives you an additional dollar off or about 9.5 bucks for the two packs.
That being said Kentucky is cheaper usually.
Edit
The 60 a carton folk should wait. What do you guys pay for a pack?

I live in Georgia and imagine TN isn't much higher. I would wait. Generally down in this area you can find a deal when you buy at least 3 packs and get the popular good smokes for 4.50 a pack or so, give or take a bit. Don't buy them at Walmart as they are much higher. Find a QT, a Race Trac, or some truck stop.

Tobacco states like TN, VA, and the Carolinas generally have way cheaper smokes. Once I was sitting at a bar in Minneapolis and some guy asked for a pack of Marlboro Lights from the bartender, who told him 12 bucks. I wish I hadn't been taking a sip right then, because beer shooting up into my sinuses and out of my nose isn't the most comfortable feeling I've ever had. Don't forget about the smoking lounge in centeroo, because if you're over 21 you can get 2 free packs of American Spirits a day.

Niiice, I missed out on that last year and I've been smoking spirits lately. Is there usually a line?
EDIT: Should I bank on this and only bring a pack, or should I bring some just in case?

Yes there is usually a line, but not so bad. Most of the folks there get in and out as fast as they can, but some of the line wait comes from people lazing about in the mediocre air conditioning. Yes you can bank on being able to get smokes there, but only during the day.
honestly if your getting newports for 35 - 40 bucks i would just go ahead and get them before u got to tennessee. im from chattanooga, tn and i havent seen newports cheaper than 45. im a pall mall smoker though, they are always cheap.

payin $6.31 right now for a pack of reds in michigan. Which is actually the cheapest around my area. Most places are close to 7. I have been saving money just to buy a few cartons in Kentucky and bring them back with me. It'll ease the wallet for a few weeks.

Seriously, hah. I'll be buying a carton of Reds in Kentucky on my way down. I think they are about... $46? in Kentucky. Better than the $53 or so here in Indiana. Not much better, but better.

I live in Nashville and paid $4.85/pack for Camel Lights (or now Camel Blues, whatever) the other day at a gas station. If you want to wait and buy them in TN, there are also tons of discount tobacco stores everywhere.

^there's one in Murfreesboro on the corner of broad and northfield, from 24 take the 840 exit then the first exit at broad, and it just down on the left in a strip mall.

in VA camel lights 99s are $3 after the 75 cent off deal that's been going on. At least that's what it was a month ago and has been since march.
edit: this is the price at Sheetz. and some of the cities like charlottesville, richmond, norfolk, roanoke, and lynchburg have their own additional taxes and may be more.
Does anybody know if Marlboro 72's are cheaper than a regular pack down in Kentucky or Tennessee? They are here in michigan. It's like 5.25 a pack out the door. And it's Phillip-Morris that set that price.
