I'm pretty sure they won't see more than 70k this year. Compared to any other year, this line-up just wont attract as large a crowd as usual. That is fine with me! Less crowds
Exactly, if you have a good lineup, people will show up. This year the lineup isn't as good, I'm going more for my brand loyalty at this point rather than the elusive "wow" factor.
I've learned my lesson though, not buying presale again. Bonnaroo just doesn't have the guarantee like Coachella that they'll have a great lineup year after year.
Different strokes for different folks, but I for one really don't see anything that made Coaches line-up so much more epic or unique than 'Roos.

Gorillaz, Pavement, Faith No More, Thom Yorke, Orbital, The Specials, Devo, Fever Ray, Plastikman,
stuff like that.
Yea what he said.
Judging by the DMB shirt in your avatar you were going to be pretty happy with the lineup, so I guess that makes it more special for you. But for me Pavement into Thom Yorke into Gorillaz may have been one of the most special three shows in a row I've ever seen. Better than anything I've seen at Roo.
Did the fest have it's down sides sure, but to say there was nothing on the lineup that isn't more exciting than Bonnaroo this year I think is silly no matter how you look at it.
The Coach lineup was pretty sweet. I'm excited about the potential of a Jimmy Cliff > Jeff Beck > Stevie Wonder > Jay-Z Saturday What Stage lineup though. 3 rock hall of famers and one future one. Maybe there will be more old folks this year...
i have lived in the south my whole life so i've heard of bonnaroo since it's birth. I love live music but have never to the extent that bonnaroo calls for. this year though, i feel like they made the lineup just for me. so it called. and i answered by purchasing my first ever tickets to this festival. i'm sorry but reading these threads and the hype about this year's lineup has made me so much more excited because of the fact that nobody wants to see who i do. first off, kid cudi. one of the most talented artists of the 21st. next is wale. i mean this guy will change all the wanna be hippies ideas about what rap should be. and my boy, homing from Atlatnta, Mr. Bobby Ray himself, aka B.o.B. this guy is going to single handedly change the way that future hip hop artists portray themselves. i mean this guy is the truth. some of y'all really need to stop complaining about why all these lame jam bands aren't playing and familiarize with some of the diversity that bonnaroo has decided to embrace. i think that this is the strongest lineup i've seen or i would not have already sunk 1500 dollars into this trip. oh yeah and has anybody even checked out the comedy tent? i mean, besides Conan. i'm stoked but maybe that's just because i get the idea nobody going to bonnaroo cares about the acts i care most about. we'll see right. bonnaroo or bust....

Sorry dude, but I've seen Yorke (twice), Gorillaz once and Pavement just isn't my thing. Yea there are a few acts they had that I would love to see on the 'Roo line-up, but names like Stevie Wonder, John Fogerty, Ten D, The Black Keys and Weezer (to name a few) at least make the bills equal. You can disagree all you want, but it's my opinion and the Coach line-up just didn't have me peeing my pants.
Besides, I hear the crowd out there this year was 75% pretentious hipsters. quacking shoot me now.

Yeah, and people say Bonnaroo is 75% hippies and frat boys.
What people say and what the truth is are two very different things. And I do have to ask, are you really that prejudice against a bullhonkey stereotype? If so, I feel bad for you, because that is very very sad.
Now, As far as lineups go, can I first ask how in the world do acts like The Black Keys and Weezer make Roo unique? They tour, and play festivals, quite often.
In the end, some lik eit more, some less, but to me....
It's still Bonnaroo. I have NEVER had a bad time at Bonnaroo. I have always had a musical awakening at Bonnaroo. One year of what some people call a "weak lineup" is not gonna change that. Still gonna be amazing...
I now take you back to the ticket sale number thread....

Well, let me break it down for you...first off I'm not prejudiced, but I live in a city with A LOT of hipsters, I have day to day and show to show interactions with them, and I find them to be pretty annoying. So when a friend whose opinion I trust goes to Coach and SAYS it was full of rude, obnoxious hipsters, my inclination is to believe her.
Second, rarity of performance does not = good line-up. At least not for me. I will grant you that Yorke and Gorillaz are unique shows, but Pavement has an American tour coming up, as does Faith No More. Even Devo is also playing some other U.S. dates. If rarity of performance really is your barometer of quality, then I would offer up the fact that John Fogerty and Stevie Wonder aren't playing any other U.S. shows, and Ten D isn't playing any other shows period.
Anyway, I'm not hating on Coachella or their line-up. I'm just saying rarity of performance is a stupid way to determine quality of bill. If 20 bands I like are all playing 'Roo I don't care if every single one of them is also on tour - I'm going to be psyched for 'Roo.

I think what a lot of people are calling a "weak line-up" is actually a line-up with broader popular appeal. People have been arguing for years that the attendee dynamic of 'Roo has been changing, and maybe it has, but I don't think there is any question that this bill is going to bring in a lot of people who have never been to Roo before, simply because of the familiarity of most of the names.

^ Those are all good points, but New Orleans a city of hipsters? Or did you move to Austin or Portland and not update your profile?
Hell no man, I still live here - and trust me when I say there are A LOT of hipsters here. A lot. I've never made it to Austin or Portland, so I can't compare - but definitely way more than I am used to.

I have been to Roo, Lolla, and Coachella, and I loved all three. People complain about the drunks at Lolla, the hippies at Roo, and the hipsters at Coachella, and for each one it's just stupid. Is there a small shred of truth to each of these? Sure. But when it comes down to it, people are people. I have had positive experiences with people, and negative experiences, at all three festivals. And the positives have always outweighed the negatives. Like I said, people are people, no matter what they are wearing or what "group" they are trying to identify with, there will be good people and bad people. In the end, if you let what someone is wearing bother you, then it's your issue, not that person's or the festivals.
And again back to the lineup, I'm not arguing about Quality. Quality is a matter of opinion, so it would be silly to try and argue anything beyond "I prefer". I'm disputing what you originally said...
Different strokes for different folks, but I for one really don't see anything that made Coaches line-up so much more epic or unique than 'Roos.
Top to bottom, Coachella this year has a more unique lineup than Bonnaroo. Yes Roo did a good job getting a number of unique acts, but Coachella, plain and simply, has more this year. Now, does that mean anything about quality? Absolutely not, quality is a matter of opinion. I was only disputing your original claim that Coachella wasn't as unique as some people are making it out to be, because it absolutely is as unique of a lineup as people are saying.

Don't worry "broseph" all the hipsters are going to slit their wrists when the Black Keys and LCD conflict.
I'm personally going to slit mine when I run into fratboy hell.

^For some reason I see Dead Weather closing out the Which Stage. Forgive me as I am not a Jack White expert, but I think DW is a little less popular\widely appealing than the White Stripes, and maybe even the Raconteurs. If they play the What Stage, I don't think it would be late afternoon. They'll have a better set time on the Which Stage anyway...

Bonnaroo thought they were big enough to put them after the flaming lips
in other words DW is 8th this year. Raconteurs were 9th in 08.
I hope DW gets a slot closing Which, because even though they are billed higher than Raconteurs was, Dead Weather is more of an "intimate" live band IMO. Raconteurs work really well in a huge field, Dead Weather are best in a smaller club, so a Which stage slot would be a lot better for them.
