Pitching is still horrendous. That lineup should bail them out of games though. At the very least, I'm just ecstatic that the Dolans are spending money for once and we're going to have an exciting, fresh team to watch. Haven't been this excited for opening day in years.

Biggest problem right now in the NL without a pitch thrown is The Braves. On paper, their hitting has potential to score 6-8 runs a game. Ugglas a meathead hacker and Heyward is yet to reach his potential. Uptons? Ridiculous...Pitching is shakey tho. Gonna be power hitting vs. Power pitching when they play the Phils. F*ck the mets and the Nats officially play in citizens bank park south as our in house scrimmage team.
I just want to be tailgating with a cool beer and a hot grill in a parking lot waiting to inhale dollar dogs.

Obviously you’d know way more than me, but don’t these just seem like weird signings for the Indians? By the time the Tribe have a chance to be good in 2-3 years Bourn and Swisher will be well out of their primes. Just seem like a lot of spending for the franchie.

Perfect Baseball Storm in Cleveland. Donlans (yes, cousins of Knicks owner) or Wilpons Midwest, had spent the last 5-8 years building a Baseball Cable TV station (think YES) the election convinced the owners to sell it for 250m before the capital gains tax jumped, then they sold broadcast rights to the buyer, (another 15?mil a year), so, they suddenly have cash, aren't dumping money into the network, AND signed Tito, who is clearly driving this bus. They do need pitching, but Tito wanted players, so they bought them. VMartinez and CC are filling the airwaves locally with some great quotes.

Great morning at the ball park! At one point I was standing right behind Peter Gammons for about 10 minutes watching batting practice and didn't even realize it.

Yeah, kind of. A friend on Facebook asked me "What's our window of contention now?" to which I replied: "That's the other thing that's kind of worrisome still. It's definitely not now, and it also won't be in 3 years when Swisher and Bourn are both in their mid 30's because they won't have as much of an impact and we don't have any immediate impact prospects coming up. This should still help put fans in the seats though and make the Indians a team to watch for all 162 games instead of just the first 2/3rds of the season. These aren't great long-term signings though which is an interesting strategy for a team that isn't ready to immediately contend"
A lot of it, really, is what I said before and what clevelandmike touched upon. I'm just happy the team is spending money and seems to care about winning for once. Signing guys like Bourn and Swisher are not going to set the team back five years down the road when they're at the end of their contract. They're not very high-risk contracts like, say, a Josh Hamilton.
And even though they're still not WS contenders , I think they are very serious Wild Card contenders which is a lot more confidence then I had in them at the beginning of the offseason. A team's first goal should always be to get to the playoffs, which they made great strides towards this offseason. That will put fans in the seats and make them a fun team to watch again. I would much rather them do this then sit on their hands and win 60 games again. It inspires more confidence in the players that they're playing for a team that cares.
Not to mention they got GREAT value on both Bourn and Swisher who were projected to earn a lot more at the start of free agency

I disagree with the value statement especially when referring to Swisher. I feel we overpaid for him. Wait till he's exposed in our lineup, which is improved, but not quite like the Yankees lineup, to say the least. It is hard, however, to be upset about this considering its' the first time we've spent money in 5 years. I just fear we aren't spending it very wisely. STARTING PITCHING!! Nevertheless...Go Tribe!

I love Swish and I wish the Yankees could have kept him for a little longer but I think the last two years of his contract will be painful for the Tribe's bottom line.
