When people referred to Simon and Garfunkel as Tom and Jerry, were they saying that because they go together or because Tom is taller than Jerry? So that Art would be "tom" and Simon would be Jerry?
I took people calling them Tom and Jerry to be a reference to how close they were...so in that sense Tom (simon) and Jerry (garfunkel)
Thats why I was guessing that "no Art" meant no Jerry (so we get Tom)... sorry if this makes no sense.
People refer to S&G as Tom and Jerry because that was what they (S&G) called themselves when they first started playing. "Jerry" was Art Garfunkel, so if you take "Art" out of the equation, you're left with "Tom" (Paul Simon).
Now, it could be an artist that has the name Tom, or an artist that has the name Paul, or Simon. Who knows.
I know it's a bit of a stretch, but like I said up the thread a bit, Chemical Brothers are Chemical TOM (Tom Rylands) and Chemical Ed (Ed SIMONs).
So you have a TOM and a SIMONs, but no Art or Jerry.
The thing that I can't let go of is that, no matter how you slice it, he's saying it's a duo.

I think Chemical Brothers are a possibility, I don't think that's TOO much of a stretch. But I don't think I agree that it has to be a duo - Tom and Jerry without Art is two things minus one, basically. I mean, Paul Simon is still the obvious answer, even though he's not the one we're looking for, it must be deliberate that the clue immediately makes you think of him. And he's only one guy, so I don't see any reason the answer we're looking for couldn't be one person. Or a band or whatever.
You got that backwards, Art was Tom Graph and Paul was Jerry Landis...
I agree about white rabbit, that makes a lot of sense!
ARGH. I knew I was going to end up typing half of it wrong - either I'd get that backwards or get the Alice in Wonderland characters backwards. And I tried to hard to remember it and get it all right too!
Well Tom and Jerry the cartoon, without the art... would be like listening to "TV on the Radio"
Someone guessed this earlier I think but the way you put it IS easy and now leading for my favorite guess
I don't see any other mention in this thread besides mine... are you sure it was for this clue?
DJJD did say someone figured out an artist yesterday for a clue that came out today... or was that thursday to friday? Clue days seem to blur for me...

You are correct. Sorry, like you say these threads are running together for me.
Yes djjd said for this clue I think
One guess on an earlier clue was so spot on- the guesser will be getting a prize.
I figured that meant one of the posts where someone said they would do this or that if it wasn't the right answer

Does anyone know if there has been any audio of this clue on Radio Roo? If so, I haven't heard it. A few times, the tweets from Bonnaroo have been just a little different, so I was wondering if maybe there would be something in the audio that might somehow help with this one.
i doubt that djjd would have his "easiest" clue be for Paul McCartney, but I only post here to drool over the guesses I like so +1 for pointing out that we should look into Pauls in addition to Simons

I don't think it was on radio roo. He didn't even tweet it he just confirmed it was a clue after Bonnaroo sent it out.
Tom Jones would be funny Tom Petty Tom Waits etc etc
From Wikipedia - "They were classmates at Parsons Junior High School and Forest Hills High School, and began performing together in their junior year as Tom and Jerry,....Simon as Jerry Landis (whose last name he borrowed from a girl he had been dating) and Garfunkel as Tom Graph (so called because he was fond of tracking ("graphing") hits on the pop charts)."
Without Art, you eliminate Tom, leaving just Jerry.
Jerry was the mouse on Tom & Jerry, the cartoon.
The more I think about this, the more I think the answer is Deadmau5. That's tom and jerry, without the art( Art Garfunkel), leaving a mouse, and Jerry without the art (skill) would be a Deadmau5.

I was trying to figure out some way that this clue could come back to Tom Morello. Possibly as Rage or Street Sweeper Social Club. Couldn't get anything though. Maybe I am just wishing

tom and jerry minus art (the letters.... ART) what letters do we have left?
om nd jery
if you scrabble the letters...
yonder m j.....
this is so close to yonder mountain sb that it makes me wonder if the j leftover was a mistake or stands for something else.... regardless I like yonder mountain string band for this clue.
