i am halfway through the album and am very impressed so far. lots of bass and drums. jack and little jack really seem drive the album. and mosshart's vocals really blend well with jack's voice and the overall sound of the album.
ilike.com is streaming it now.
edit: track 8- bone house= unmistakable, nasty jw guitar solo
edit 2: exceeded my expectations ( i expected it to be a slight notch below his rac's and white stripes stuff.) don't think it reaches white blood cells/elephant/consolers territory, but still like it alot on first listen. jack white is a fucking genius.
I only just got around to listening to this today, but HOLY CRAP!!! This album is raw, kick-ass, and no holds barred awesomeness. I def like it better than the two Raconteurs albums on my first listen. And I liked the Raconteurs albums quite alot. I need more Jack in my life
Ehhhh. idk Definately solid. The best song is jack's tho "Cut Like A Buffalo". "Treat Me Like Your Mother" and "Bone House" are other notables but the others sort of bleed together on first listen. Not up to either Raconteurs record (Broken Boy Soldiers is underrated) or Stripes stuff but still a solid effort from a band who from what i've seen on vids is really strong live.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
I can def hear the QOTSA influence. The album is bad-fucking-ass. Maybe not as good as Consolers of the Lonely, but pretty damn close, IMO. It's def better than Broken Boy Soldiers in bad-assedness. I like it....alot

Colored vinyl? The one I pre-ordered from 3rd Man Recs is black with an etching on side 4. I always seem to miss out on colored vinyl. Does the colored version have the etching?
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

the first record is colored....half white and half orange/gold. i'll take a pic soon. the second record is black on one side and the etched in picture on the other. it cost 30 while the regular one (i'm assuming the one on the site) was 25.
it might just be a tour-only thing.....because I didn't even know it existed until going to the show
I guess I'm alone in thinking Jack needs to lay low for a while and recharge his juices, because the last Racs album and this is just not cutting it.
He's done himself a horrible disservice, because whatever he does is eternally in the shadow of WS. If you're gonna come out swinging, like they did, with 3 fantastic first records, then you'd better have something else lined up later on. And while he does, they've not measured up... at all.
Still haven't investigated what the live is supposed to be, but it sounds to be very good (but so was Racs, which I hated live) so I'll have to reserve my judgments on that.

You are alone. All alone I loved the new Racs album and this thing called The Dead Weather is some sorta fantastic. The first Racs album was lacking in alot of ways IMO. I dunno. I think Jack's on the right track.

I'm with danbird on this one.
I think the thing to take into account is that these new bands aren't strictly Jack White. In White Stripes Jack wrote everything and was the driving force......whereas in the Raconteurs he split songwriting duties with Brendan Benson. He's not making it Jack White and the Raconteurs (although he could have if he wanted to)......it's more of a full band with ideas and songs coming from others.
The same idea goes for Dead Weather even more. Jack takes a backseat (although everyone is watching him anyway) by getting on Drums. Alison Mosshart and Dean Fertita write a lot of Horehound and some songs don't include Jack at all in the songwriting credits.
I think Jack is doing what feels right as it happens. I really love Horehound and can't wait to see what happens next with Jack White (weren't there reports of him working with Seasick Steve?)
EDIT: just for an idea of who writes what on Horehound check this out:
1. "60 Feet Tall" Fertita/Mosshart 2. "Hang You from the Heavens" Fertita/Mosshart 3. "I Cut Like a Buffalo" White 4. "So Far from Your Weapon" Mosshart 5. "Treat Me Like Your Mother" Fertita/Lawrence/Mosshart/White 6. "Rocking Horse" Mosshart/White 7. "New Pony" Bob Dylan 8. "Bone House" Fertita/Lawrence/Mosshart/White 9. "3 Birds" Fertita/Lawrence/Mosshart/White 10. "No Hassle Night" Mosshart/White 11. "Will There Be Enough Water?" Fertita/White

Just saw them the other night and it was fan-fuggin-tastic! The paint was melting off the walls at first ave. When allison and white were both singing in the same mic it was bliss. My new life goal is to marry allison, whatever it takes.
