One may not like The Who (as insane as that is) but I wouldn't judge any band based on a 12 minute Super Bowl halftime show.
The Who were a good band 40 years ago. Now, they're embarrassing more than anything else.
If they can't go 12 minutes without looking and sounding like a joke, then how are they supposed to throw down for 2+ hours?
Do you think Phish could do in 12 minutes what they do in 3 hours? Highly doubtful. I saw The Who on their last tour and they were much better than I expected. Sure, not like they were when I saw them with Moon and Entwhistle, but that's asking a bit much. In any case, they could easily throw down for 2 hours at Roo.

Daltrey's voice isn't good, I get that. But Townshend has become a far better guitarist over the years. I saw them a few years ago and they were pretty awesome.
I actually thought Daltrey's energy was a lot better than Townshend's. I will give them this...whoever was producing that show, did a horrible job showcasing Townshend's guitar playing. Why the hell did they constantly cut away from him everytime he went into a solo?
But beyond that, I think part of the reason The Who just simply don't work for me anymore is the nature of their music. It was built on youthful bravado. It's not enough for the songs to be played well. They need to explode out of a sound system with dangerous energy. Hell, Townshend used to punch people who came on the stage. The Townshend I saw at halftime looked like he would be more comfortable playing a cheesy solos with Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton.
Oh...and it doesn't help that their most famous songs now make me think of CSI shows.

Their performance didn't strike me as that of rockstars. It felt more like, "Hey, I heard your grandpa used to play in a rock band. You think he could play a couple of songs?" Except then grandpa got carried away and his belly started falling out of his shirt.

lights were great. they were better than the stones super bowl performance. weren't better than the boss. weren't better than mccartney. weren't better than petty. weren't better than prince. i'd like to see them one day, even though its not really the who. wouldn't mind if it happens at bonnaroo one of these days. sure would beat the hell out of that police performance in 07.

I didn't see the halftime show but The Who have been fading away for awhile. I really wish they'd of let it go after Entwistle packed it in. I saw them for the first time 30 years ago and it still stands as the best concert I have ever seen, and I've seen a few.

They weren't nearly as good as Bruce the year before. Bruce has still got the rockstar vibe.
Yes he does.
I think The Who were going to headline Saturday night, but because of the comments in this thread, will now play in a tent on Thursday, sorta like the way Jack Johnson was demoted in '08 ;D

Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

the who should just add ringo, mccartney and john paul jones and start a supergroup playing the music of zeppelin, the beatles and the who. now that i think about it, it doesn't sound as good as i pictured it in my head.
I know most people seem to think Jay-Z is a lock, and that may be the case. Most people are saying "if Jay-Z doesn't play, there are no other big rap acts they could get". I'm not saying he wont make the trip from "Isle of Wright" but if he didn't, there has to be someone who could fill the role of big name rap artist.
What about Eminem as the big name rap act this year? I mean he had an album out last year and another one coming this year. He just played the Grammys and didn't do any touring for the last album. I'm not saying I necessarily want him, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he was the rap act this year. And I think he'd do a pretty good job to be honest.
I figure I'll probably get flammed for bringing him up but I'm just saying maybe we should consider him as a possible headliner. And I don't have a source at all, it's just a random thought that popped into my head. If it pans out though, you know you heard it hear first ;D
I would prefer Eminem, but JayZ is a done deal....
What I posted a few weeks ago was all I knew at the time (KOL, Stevie, JayZ, DMB, Tenacious D) - I obviously know a lot more since then, but I've stayed away for a long time because despite the fact that I'm an 'insider' I'm really just a freak at heart dying to share with you all ............. but at this point you can wait a few more hours till tomorrow, no???
