It might be alright to have one of those three (Rush, U2 and Clapton) at the farm this year. Preferably Clapton. I don't see U2 being at Bonnaroo, but then again - you just never know.
I'm curious, has Simon & Garfunkel been discussed as a possibility?
I feel like no one's brought it up, but they should because them alone would bring me down to 'roo this year. Plus, they just got together for a couple songs for the R&RHoF show in NYC (thought I wasn't there on the day they performed). I've seen Paul Simon, and Art Garfunkel, but never Simon & Garfunkel, so I'm hope hope hoping they play.

I don't think we'll see u2. I know they are continuing their tour in 2010 and Glastonbury. My thinking is that Glastonbury is it, just because it's huge. Whereas Roo is maybe 70k. U2 can pull in 50k on their own and make the big $. I'd like to know what it costs to book them. I mean they've got 120 semi trucks traveling to set up those freaking stages (2). Not that they'd bring it to roo anyways. I could honestly care less about who headlines this year. Im there anyways. It is interesting to read who you guys want.

I think you're all gonna be surprised at how much Bonnaroo is gonna try and return to its roots this year. There is no doubt in my mind that Furthur will be there. If Roger Waters does a tour, he'll be there too. I think Phish will be doing the Rothbury thing next year, but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't show up for a late night slot again. Last year had fewer jambands than any previous year, expect this year to make up for it.

I hope they don't return to their roots too much cuz I plan on doing Roo and Roth. I don't want to see a bunch of the same bands. I hope Roth stays true to what they've been doing the past two years and I hope that Roo continues to blow my mind with new acts.

with recent articles quoting Bono as saying he was disappointed with album sales and now them playing glastonbury, it would seem they are trying to reach out to a new audience. in the US, there are two festivals to do that, Roo and Coachella. coachella is when they are on break, so that seems unlikely.
the weekend of roo has one of the biggest gaps in the US summer tour. it is possible, perhaps even likely, they will play.
i'd go with a 51/49 odds at the moment
if they werent going to roo, wouldnt it make more sense to do the first two dates in CA, then go to CO? or (more likely) just start in CO?
if they play roo, it would be CA, TN, CO, CA - makes sense... they hit CO on their way back from TN the proceed back to CA..

I hate this website SO MUCH!!! (but also can not get enough and check it at least twice a day)
This is what I feel…and as most anyone else, just an opinion. We are 198 days away and it is way too soon to be speculating. But since everyone else is…here are my thoughts.
Roger Waters…seems like a GREAT fit and if I had to bet on any of the “rumors,” this is where I am putting my money. “The Wall” on the “What Stage” would equal Radiohead’s epic performance in my eyes.
Guns and Roses was a rumor last year from Rolling Stone as well and it went nowhere. Surprisingly, I am not opposed to seeing them at Bonnaroo. However, I do not believe they are “headliner” material without the whole band…add Slash, Duff, etc and I can see them in the Tool/Metallica/NIN slot. Without the original members, I do not see it.
The Who is LEGENDARY and them touring next summer and doing the Super Bowl adds up to a strong possibility…I am not counting this one out, but lets say Roger Waters is a given…is this too many 70’s rock bands at a modern festival?
U2…all I can say, is I HOPE NOT!!! I have never got into them, but their stage show reputation is second to none. I would be there watching but I hope this is not true.
Pavement…I am a HUGE fan and would love to see them on the farm. Are they going to “headline?” Not a chance in the world. I think every band who plays at Roo says they “headline” it. They won’t even be on the What Stage.
Jay Z…has anyone seen footage of when he “headlined” Glastonbury? Look it up and you will have NO DOUBT this will happen…it was awful and after Kanye, I do not see another rapper “headline” Bonnaroo. And before you mention the Beastie Boys last year…they are an exception, I am a BIG fan…but them too were a big disappointment.
Phish…2 years in a row? I truly doubt it.
Stevie Wonder…would be AMAZING but I too agree with some of the past opinions that he would not “headline” but rather be in the Al Green, BB King, Robert Plant and Willie Nelson spots.
Neil Young…I can see it happen, would be happy with it…but would also depend on who else is on the lineup to judge my excitement level.
Paul McCartney…see my Neil Young answer.
I will end with Daft Punk…they have been on the top of my wish list from my 1st step on the farm many years ago. If there is a God, please make this happen…Daft Punk late at night on the main stage would be mind blowing!!!
With that said…here are my “headliner” predictions: Friday: Roger Waters Saturday: Radiohead Sunday: Dave Mathews Band
I have no Radiohead news…just wishful thinking, and I say DMB because they have not been in the farm “headliner” spot in several years and I figure they are due again. (I hope not because I am NOT a fan)
Wishful thinking…either Pearl Jam (but 2 of 3 years probably not a safe bet), RHCP or Foo Fighters in one spot with Widespread, MMJ (I am in the group who believes they CAN headline) or some sort of Dead group in another slot. However, if Roger Waters and Daft Punk are playing this year…it really does not matter who else is there!!!
Jay Z…has anyone seen footage of when he “headlined” Glastonbury? Look it up and you will have NO DOUBT this will happen…it was awful and after Kanye, I do not see another rapper “headline” Bonnaroo. And before you mention the Beastie Boys last year…they are an exception, I am a BIG fan…but them too were a big disappointment.
what? from everything i heard he killed it at Glastonbury, and from the few videos i saw looked great.
if anything the Glastonbury performance helps him get a stateside festival, not hurt it. I think Jay-Z will be firday night Which stage, whether or not unopposed, im not sure.

IMO, Kanye needs to be viewed as the exception, not the rule. I think there is significantly sized niche at Bonnaroo for rap acts, no matter how big or small. 2009 was my first Roo, so I can only use that one for an example, but I thinking back at all the rap acts; Beasties, PE, People under the stairs, MURS, etc., they were all great shows in my book. It is shows like this that just add to what Bonnaroo has to offer. It's this diversity that makes Bonnaroo the best festival on the planet.

Anaheim--->Denver--->Oakland--->Seattle 3,076 mi – about 1 day 23 hours
Denver--->Anaheim--->Oakland--->Seattle 2,209 mi – about 1 day 10 hours
867 additional miles for no good reason is probably a lot of extra gas for 120 Trucks, huh?
I have no idea about the logistics but I know that they have two teams. While they are playing one night, the other team is setting up at the next venue. The band just flies from show to show. I'd like to see them on the farm. I can't imagine how much it costs them to put on that show. They wouldn't bring the claw anyways.

yea their usual stage set up would have nothing to do with it as they wouldnt be doin the claw set up. they would just send a scaled down stage set to Roo(like they are with Glastonbury) and have their claw set already at the next site.
not sayin i think its gonna happen, just that their huge set up is a non factor since it wouldnt be used

Anyone think they will do a split-headliner again on Friday? I'm a HUGE Phish fan, so it worked for me, but I think that format allows them to add essentially two more headliners. Your thoughts?
Post by The Wookie Monster on Nov 24, 2009 17:01:57 GMT -5
I think there'll be a main headliner and a late night headliner on both Friday and Saturday nights. I could definitely see Pavement/Pixies split pre headlining duties though on What/Which stage. I think U2 is Friday night followed by Jay-Z. I think GNR will take NIN's spot while Roger Waters takes Saturday night. I think Further closes out the fest.
I think we're going to see DMB,Trey, the Allman bros. (they owe us b/c of last years Hep.), Radiohead. I'm looking for another couple of headliners but i cant seem to find any at this time. Simon and Garfunkel would be great maybe STP but not as a headliner, b/c roo seems to always bring a band in that has a majority rock sound. Check out this site they just posted U2 and pavement as rumors for roo

Yes yes yes, we all know about consequence of sound.
Also, an update on the primavera sound thing, this was posted on atease, which was posted on the coachella message board, which will now be posted here. It's like a giant circle of rumors, anxiety, hope, fear, and music nerd prognosticating.
1 PIXIES booked 2 ANIMAL COLLECTIVE (1294 votes) no plans for then but could change... (PANDA BEAR booked) 3 PORTISHEAD (998) contacted, touring next summer but complicated (headliner slot shortage) 4 BELLE AND SEBASTIAN (961) will tour this year, negotiations going well 5 THE ARCADE FIRE (945) will tour only from june or later, depends when album is finished 6 WILCO (924) booked 7 BUILT TO SPILL (896) negotiations are very advanced 8 PULP (812) no plans for the band to reform so far 9 YO LA TENGO (790) doubtful, spanish tour shortly before the festival. maybe as Condo Fucks... 10 LCD SOUNDSYSTEM (746) on tour in the US at the time

Probably right. Isn't it great to speculate based on future touring and hard information rather than "Well x band hasn't played in x amount of years, and nothing is on their tour schedule for 7 months from now...they must be playing!"
