He probably doesn't have a Vault subscription I'm guessing. I don't either
You sign up for them whenever you want. They announce the package and then you have until the end of the month to sign up/renew or decide you don't want the package and cancel.
Anyone can get this package as long as they sign up for the $60 subscription fee (before the end of July). Then three months from now they'll announce the next package and there will be a few weeks where you decide if you want it or if you want to skip it (and cancel).
I don't buy every package..just the ones I like. Then I cancel subscription and wait for one I like again. Every 3 months a new package.
Oh, so you just have to sign up for a Vault subscription by 7/31 to get that record? And subscriptions are $60? Is that how that works?
So basically it's like they're selling that package for $60? Is there anything else extra you get in the three months in between?
Yea, it's a bit confusing at first. Here's how it works:
They announce a package for the quarter (4 packages a year, 1 for every 3 months). Packages are usually a 12" or two (full show or album), a 7" single, and something else (like a DVD or a T-shirt or a poster or a tote bag).
Every time a new package is announced there is a grace period of a few weeks where you can sign up/renew your subscription ($60 for the next 3 months....so $20 a month when broken down) or you can decide you don't want that package and cancel for that quarter.
The packages take about a month and a half to two months after announced for them to ship...because they wait until the cutoff point to tally up how many "subscribers" they have so they know exactly how much stuff to press.
So basically if you want the package, you pay $60 up front, wait a month or two, get the package, and then wait for the next one to be announced.
So what do you get with that $60 for 3 months? In addition to these packages (which to me are usually are worth that money anyway) you also get access to the Vault which is a news and media hub for Third Man (they'll post exclusive news there first, and then to the public after). They post exclusive videos and sometimes artists will do live video chats (not too often..I don't use the Vault site too much). It's also like a forum/message board similar to Inforoo. I'm pretty sure (though not 100%) that they also allow vault members to gain early entry to shows for Jack and his bands (depending on the venue). They do have vault member pre-sales that are awesome and will guarantee you get a ticket instead of hoping it doesn't sell out in a minute. Like I said, I don't use the perks too much....just sign up for the packages.
Only thing is, if you do sign up....make sure you log back in and cancel your subscription if they announce the next package and you don't want to pay $60 for it. Then just keep your eye out for the next sign up period and you can re-activate your account. It's what I do.
Can't get together $60 in 20 days? Or just stating that in general?
Just 60 bucks I didn't expect wanting to spend so badly.
I know what you mean. That always hurts the wallet. Even moreso because you pay and it takes sometimes 2 months to get the thing. So for a little while it's like you paid for nothing. But then a nice surprise comes in the mail.
I'm looking into tickets for a few upcoming shows (White Denim, Jay-Z,) and every time I remember I want this it starts to really make me weigh the options. Probably just going broke.
I swear to vishnu if one of you guys says something about autobiographic sorting.
I don't have a problem with it. It makes sense. I don't do it though.
I basically sort it by preference. Favorites first and then onto more obscure things I don't care as much about. But I've thought about switching that up. Not many people go through my records so I like knowing exactly where certain artists are based on my personal preference.

I have often thought about organizin' my CDs like this. I figure I could get about 80% accuracy on it, but there are some I just may have forgotten about. I don't have enough vinyl yet to even make that fun.

We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Nice collection you've got there. Impressive J Spaceman and Neil selection too. Sorely lacking It Still Moves and Kid A though. How long have you been collecting for? I wish I had as many new records as you do but I just dont have the money for all that, I havent even bought a record in months. That will be changing once channel ORANGE comes out though

Hey NoD...is it cool or pathetic that I can name almost every single one of the records in your collection just by the spines (even the ones that don't have the band name or album title)? Comes with working at a record store, I suppose.
