a few cool things, nothing must have. i wouldn't mind picking up that Sublime 40z to Freedom vinyl. that album was the soundtrack to like 60% of my high school debauchery. also embarrassing to admit, but whatever, i walked backwards into the Grateful Dead because of the cover of "Scarlet Begonias" on that album. When I found out the Dead wrote that song i was like goddamn it, because i thought i was all punk rock and shit.

I want the Studio Ghibli album... I think it might be interesting.
Willie’s Spirit and a few others maybe...
Overall, I am glad it is a light list. My budget is thankful.
Just talked to someone at my local record store to see if they could bump up their orders/help me out on these for Black Friday:
Death From Above - Freeze Me/Keep it Real Dumb 7" Willie Nelson - Yesterday's Wine (this one looks to be a little pricey) Tangerine Dream - Electronic Meditation Sun Ra - Exotica (also looking to be on the pricey side, but it's a 3 LP) At The Drive In - Diamonte Bill Hicks - Revelations (this is what I want the most) MURS - 3:16 The 9th Edition (I won't be heart broken if I can't get this one) Notorious BIG - Hypnotize (looks to be plentiful) Otis Redding - Live in Europe Frank Zappa - Lump Gravy (this looks to be a good deal... I really like the original album)
I received Masseduction (the web store’s yellow deluxe version) today. While the vinyl sounds okay... that packaging is so bad. It’s almost embarrassing. A pvc outer sleeve with no real outer storage/sleeve/bi-fold.
I have no idea how I will store this. I have the vinyl in a good inner sleeve but there is no protection now on the outside. It came with a poster, a great lyric book, and stickers... so I guess I will let that be the protection on both sides inside of a good-quality outer sleeve?
I should have passed on this version and went with VMP version. The great music makes up for it, though! :-)
Went to 2nd and Charles tonight to see if they had some decent horror dvds to add to my collection... I instead walked out with a lovely record:
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica (1977 Reprise repress... Absolutely stunning shape and quality. I'd say it's about as close to NM as a used 40 year old record could be. And, it was $15!)

Hello friends. I'm too drunk to read this thread so please bear with me. Thanks in advance.
My dad has a Technics setup. I'm not entirely sure on the year, it could be anywhere between 1970 to early-to-mid 1980s (I say mid-80s because that is when I came along). As it happens, he has said I can have it and I totes want it. Any suggestions for any type of setup for it are welcomed and encouraged. My budget is limited for the time being (because our apartment is small and I am cautious) but seriously, give me everything from the high end to the low. He had speakers for it, but I'm not sure what happened to them. They might be in the basement (which is damp and awful, so they're done for). I'm sick of looking at the few records I do have sit on the shelf and I'd like to start seriously collecting vinyl.
I'd also welcome suggestions on quality but modestly priced turntables in case my dad isn't exactly ready to let go of his setup. There are two things he is anal about in life: that Technics setup and his Mustang.
Some pretty random but good (and cheap) pick ups today:
Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band - Live Bullet Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger Tom Tom Club - Tom Tom Club Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Depeche Mode - Everything Counts, Nothing, Sacred, A Question of Lust (101 sampler/maxi single, which is cool because three of those aren't on the vinyl 101 release I have)

What exactly might he give you? A turntable and you need speakers and an amp?

Do many on here take advantage of these signed pre-sale albums? I've been grabbing a few over the past couple months. Wolf Parade, the Killers, Vince Staples, LCD. Each has been different do far, WP was the signed LP, the Killers a CD, LCD were little picture cards of each member signed, Vinny Staples I'm still waiting on delivery but was billed as "signed picture disc" so I'm curious to see that. Should be here early next week

Anyone got anything neat to share?
My Vince Staples was a 2-LP picture disc with a signed poster. I am usually hesitant on picture discs due to quality but these sounded great (to me).

Ahh it's a signed poster? Damn. Did you get that though his website too?

Turntable and maybe a speaker that is as old as the turntable itself. The other speaker has been down in the basement for a while and it’s pretty damp down there so I’m considering it trashed.

This site has some good suggestions across a lot of price points for an amp
Just check whether you need a phone-pre amp or not. The turntable may or may not have one built in, but I assume your dad will have one if necessary.
Craigslist is also a good source for amps if you just want to get it working without spending a lot of money. IMO, the amp is the best component to buy used if you’re looking to save some money.
Your speaker options are pretty limitless, but the Audioengine A5s tends to be the most popular.
If you’re looking to just get everything, the AT-120 is a good basic turntable.
