pmo - IMO, whatever shelving you have there (kallax?) doesn't have a lot of weight in/on it. This isn't a jab at you for not having a lot of vinyl yet. Shelves without weight in them will not dampen vibrations from the hardwood floor. Vibrations will move right through it, w no impedance. A rug of some sort directly under the entire shelving unit might help here.
Also, I'm with everyone else. Get those speakers away from the table (just because your kids cause a vibration doesn't mean the vibration isn't already there), and it isn't wise to set the table on top of the receiver. Receivers get hot, like any other electronics.
Again, only my opinion.
Good point about the receiver, I didn't even notice that. Heat kills electronics, so if the receiver isn't properly ventilated you are reducing the life of the receiver.
I also love the solution you are effectively proposing is "buy more vinyl".

As long as it isn't picture discs.....
I highly dislike picture discs. They belong on walls. In Hot Topic.

you and me both. generally I prefer regular old black 12" vinyl, though I do own some vinyl with designs/colors I always prefer to have it in black.

Anybody else shooting for that Corey Feldman release tomorrow? I am so compelled to try and be first in line just for that. I mean Jaco and Sun Ra would be cool, but I'm really hoping to get the Feldman.
David Bowie - Cracked Actor The Distillers - Coral Fang The Kinks - All Day and All of the Night 7" Prince - Little Red Corvette/1999 7" picture disc Prince - Pop Life 12"
that's about all I want out of RSD this year, which is good. I am happy it's a down year for me. Last few were big days.
The Record Exchange *Prince - Little Red Corvette/1999 7" picture disc (only copy, grabbed it right before someone else who clearly wanted it could) *the Kinks - All Day and All of the Night 7"
Newbury Comics *Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson (splurged) *The Time - What Time Is It? *The Distillers - Coral Fang *Prince - I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man 12" *Prince - I Wish U Heaven 12" *Prince - Sign o' the Times 12"
Didn't see Partyman, Batdance or Pop Life 12"s, but those are all going to see wider release later on.
A couple I picked up earlier this week from 2nd and Charles:
Merle Haggard and The Strangers - I'm A Lonesome Fugitive Merle Haggard and The Strangers - Mama Tried (both of these are original pressings and are in excellent condition, both still in their shrink wrap with the sides split to get the record out. They even have the original price tags on them from the same record store, it looks like... best of all, I got them both for $15 together)
On to today's pick ups:
Aerosmith - Rocks Black Sabbath - Vol. 4 Black Sabbath - Sabotage Pavlov's Dog - At The Sound of the Bell Jaco Pastorius - Anthology: The Warner Bros. Years (RSD) Sun Ra - Discipline 27-II (RSD) Sun Ra - Janus (RSD) Corey Feldman - Go 4 It 7" (RSD)
Pearl Jam - State of Love and Trust/Breath Rush - Cygnus X-1 Spoon - Hot Thoughts/Love Letters Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick Lynyrd Skynyrd - Street Survivors
So, I heeded much of the advice I received. I bought a pair of speaker stands and got the speakers on a separate surface than the turntable, and the turntable off my receiver. I balanced the tone arm. And I used remnants from when we carpeted the living room to put under the shelving unit. It is clearly less sensitive to vibrations from people near the turntable. My son is 4, so he jumps around quite a bit, and it still doesn't hold up to that, but not much would I figure. Thanks again for all the help. It is much better now.
I'll have to work on the "more vinyl" problem. I have to set a limit of 2 a month, so it is a slow process.

I had Hot Thoughts/Love Letters in my hand but I put it back to make an attempt at keeping some kind of budget.
Would have bought State of Love and Trust/Breath if I'd seen it.
Was there no Mystery Side-By-Side 7" this year?
Our record store keeps all the exclusives behind the counter and you have to wait in line while they look for everyone's requests. They had 3 of my top 5 left when I got there (Against Me! and Pink Floyd were gone), so I considered myself lucky and didn't even ask about The Sword or The War on Drugs.

In addition to the RSD pick-ups, these were a part of the weekend purchases. Also, I now have an empty room in my house that is in the midst of being the record/reading room. I'm going to keep my good turntable downstairs and just put my portable combo unit up there, but it will give a place to store my records without them being all over my fucking living room.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
thanks, I was excited about that one for sure. I have Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables on vinyl, which is really all I thought I needed, but I'd forgotten "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" was on In God We Trust Inc. I saw that and knew I had to have it.
