I will be at the beach August 11th. My kids need to go on & brace themselves for an early bedtime that night since I won't have a DVR at the rental house. I am not missing this premiere.

As I have stated previously, I have already spoke with abrakapokus about how, for 8 consecutive Sundays starting 8/11 at 9pm, the bedroom TV is mine and nobody better walk in during that hour. Breaking Bad is serious business.
When I stop counting, I will let you know. I'll probably be finished by the end of the year.
P.S. Breaking Bad + poetry. A$AP Rosko is probably dead from the excitement.
Shelley is actually by far my least favorite of the Romantics, but that's a good poem and damn Cranston read it well.
Wait what? I mean I can understand liking him the least among some of those folks, but "by far?" Queen Mab and Hymn to Intellectual Beauty are pretty special to me.
Are you more the odes of Keats or the surrealism of Coleridge then?

There is no f*cking way the Breaking Bad thread is going to turn into poetry corner. You and Kyle can take your frilly shirts and knee pants and go somewhere the f*ck else.

To find my favorite among the Romantics, you need only to look to Shelley's idol, Tom: Mr. William Wordsworth. "Hymn to Intellectual Beauty" and "Mont Blanc" are good poems (the latter of which is a response of sorts to Tintern Abbey), but I just find Shelley's work to be too inconsistent and too didactic.
And, yes, I prefer Keats' beautiful odes and Coleridge's bipolar, meta intensity to Shelley.
OK, sorry guys, not gonna derail this thread further.
If you haven't seen this before, give it a watch. It's Jim Rash interviewing Vince Gilligan, Bryan Cranston, and the rest of the writing team behind the show. 23 minutes or thereabouts.
On the boner scale, it's yohimbine, Viagra, Spanish fly, rhino horn, and Rule 34 all rolled into one.

Here is an article on Buzzfeed about Breaking Bad. Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and Betsy Brandt give some insight into the unspoken motivations for their characters, i.e. why Saul uses his hands so much when he talks. Nothing spoiler-y that I saw. link

Here's Anna Gunn at the New York premiere for the show.
To add to the article from the other day, apparently Skyler's weight gain was also a purposeful choice to signify the building stress within Skyler of having to deal with the stress of the situation she has been put in. Have I mentioned that I heart the f*ck out of this show?

We're finally at less than a week to go!
Here's my theory for today does not rely on internet research or message boards or anything that could have been influenced by people who have inside info.
"Chemistry: it is the study of change. Well that’s… that’s all of life… right? I mean, it’s just the constant, it’s the cycle. It is growth, then decay, then transformation." — Walter White (Breaking Bad)
That's a pretty well known line from the beginning of the season. Given Gilligan's love for call backs, wouldn't this fit in nicely as the overall theme for the show? We watch the growth of Walt's empire, Hank's discovery brings about the decay. The transformation will be the interesting part as it could mean a lot of different things in terms of Walt. Could he get turned by the DEA and end up working for them? Is it a signal of his final redemption in the eyes of his family after they all find out the truth or alternately, is it a nod to his transformation over to someone who does not care for his family at all? I like the redemption angle just because that has always been my theory for the end but the last is intriguing as well because it counterpoints the very beginning of the series which is Walt apologizing for getting caught and telling them all he loves them.

I really don't see any redemption for Walt at this point. I think he will pay the ultimate price for his transformation, which will be losing everything.
I like Walt, not many people do at this point. So I'd like to see him make it out. I really just can't imagine the cold opening of season 5A being a 'good' situation. I believe he'll commit a final act that completely alienates him from his family and friends (Jesse). Not sure what that act is yet. I thought for a while maybe he'll kill Jessie or maybe Hollie or Flynn will get killed/hurt. Maybe he'll do something to Hank? No clue. But I think he'll lose everything and die trying to 'redeem' himself.
I'll also note that none of my thoughts are coming from any type of potential inside info. Just my personal musings.

I don't think there is a way for Walt to make it out of the series. For me, it's really a matter of how he goes out. I think his death will have a lot to do with his transformation if that is indeed a valid theory. Walt has been acting in a very self serving manner for a while now. I see his death happening in a manner where he dies saving someone whether it be Hank or Jessie, Jessie being the one that would make more sense since the show has revolved around their relationship.

This is based on nothing but what I think could happen. Nothing from leaks or the internet. Some Spoilers if you are not caught up on the series. NO NEW SPOILERS
I disagree Dave. I think Walt has truly gone to the dark side and he is not coming back. I personally think he is going to kill Hank. He will get away with it bc the DEA will think it was in relation to the cartel threats already put on Hank. Walt with struggle immensely with his actions, Walt will do anything to avoid prison and to protect the money he has obtained for his family. He is power and money hungry and is willing to do anything to obtain it. I could see Jesse turning states witness against Walt bc he believes Walt has gone too far and he feels guilty about everything that has happened. The killing of the dirt bike kid was the last straw for Jesse and at some point Jesse will figure he is next. I probably talking out of my ass though

I think we are all talking out of our ass. That's what makes it fun. Like I said earlier, my belief that Walt is going to find some kind of redemption comes more from my personal want for that to happen versus any real evidence that has been delivered in the narrative. Re: Walt not going to prison, lest us not forget that Walt was willing to shoot himself rather than go to prison at the beginning of the series. It'll be interesting to see if and how that has changed since then.

It'd be really interesting to see Hank and Jesse overcome their past animosity so they can team up against Walt.
Do any of you think the death of Jesse's girlfriend and Walter's involvement will come back into play?
I feel like it has to but I'm not sure how Jesse finds out unless Walt tells him it in anger or Saul lets something slip to make Jesse suspicious (that is....if Saul knows Walt's connection at all....which I'm not sure).

I'm petty sure Saul knows because he sent Mike to cleanup. This was before Walt could contact Mike himself if memory serves correctly.
what an a-hole Hank was back then, and how far he's come since. That border experience with the booby-trapped tortuga humbled and humanized him; recovering from being shot forced him to re-evaluate himself; having been proven right about the super-lab renewed his self-confidence. Wonderful, wonderful character development.
