You can drive in the left lane, just don't cruise in it. That's a no no anywhere. The left lane on HWYs is designated for passing.
not here
I was talking to some friends and they were telling me California is just ridiculous as far as driving goes. They were saying it's one of the worst, as far as how people drive. Like, every car does at least +10 regularly on road, especially freeways, turn signals are just your way of telling the guy in the next lane to speed up (so we don't use them), and stuff like that. I mean, we get poop done, and get where we're going, but we have way more accidents because of it. And way more road rage. There is no fury like that you experience when the jerk in front of you is driving only 5 above the speed limit.
I understand the turn signals thing. We don't use them here unless you have a cop trailing somewhere. Everytime I try to use mine, the guy always speeds up and then somehow decides he should cruise next to me so I cant exit. Love it.
My brother recently came back from Cali. Said everyones a fk'in idiot when driving over there. Says its like everyone is in a hurry to be nowhere.
I like the people who move down here from places like CA and NY. They're all confused at first that people let them in without a fight much of the time, and it takes them a while to figure out what's going on.

Best recommendation any one can make: DON'T SPEED. For reals, these cops are dickheads, and because of the douchebag that was speeding in our car, I got a ticket for having a little bit of herbs and spices in my bag. Just be careful kids.
Also be careful when they have someone pulled over, make every effort to get in the far lane. A lot of times they sit that way behind an abandoned or broke down car just to catch people.
man coming from rhode island it's going to a great pleasure to drive in tennessee again. i learned how to drive in good ole tennessee so i abide by the LAW. new england.... everyone seems to just not follow basic traffic laws up here. in fact i'll go as far as saying that they sometimes go out of there way to break it. speeding. not using turn signals. cutting in front of you without using a turn signal. driving up here i constantly find myself saying "wow, if this was in tennessee that guy would surely get a ticket for that." oh the days of being able to drive in traffic and not be scared that your gonna die, how i miss you. although i will say some of those back road towns are pretty bad sometimes. that being said. in massachusetts you can possess anything under an ounce and it's legal. so there is that....

Pfft, I absolutely love it. Driving feels like a competition all the time (and sometimes it is; had two separate impromptu races the other day just because I passed someone). 20 miles in fifteen minutes? Sign me up! Besides, fast music sounds way better at 85+

Though that does sound really nice. Being able to turn on my blinker and not having to gun it in front before the guy can speed up...

That's just sadistic...
I think that, for the benefit of those who haven't had the pleasure of driving in Cali, I'm going to make a short video of the average drive. So you can see everyone refusing to use signals for lane changes, 90% of people pushing 80 in 65s, and how pissed off people get when someone ahead of them isn't doing 75. It's great.
By the way, this may be a dumb question, but like I said, I don't know much about driving outside Cali. You can still do a right on red in all other states, right?

No, not in all other states. I don't think you can in AZ. You can in TN, provided you come to a complete stop before turning.

Either gotten a ticket or gotten in a fight. People are serious about their road rage down here!
And yes make sure you do a 3 second stop at all righ-on-red situations and stop signs!!

Ok, So I lived in Mcminnville (30 minutes from manchester) for 20 years and cops there are mostly dicks. Recently I heard from a friend that they passed a law saying that you cant eat and drive in McMinnville. So as screwed up as that sounds I called the police dept there and asked. The person I talked to said that a city cop can pull over if they think FOR ANY REASON you do not have complete control of your vehicle. So yes, that means eating.. talking on the phone... lighting a cig while driving with your knee... you get the idea.
Wear your seat belt, drive the speed limit, and pay attention to what you are doing.
Most TN cops are ok, but there are the power hungry, fat pigs that cant get laid that have to try to ruin anything fun. So be a lil extra careful if you must go through McMinnville because they like to be creative in the ways they can give people a hard time.
Anytime. The speed limit sign in my pic is real, btw, and from TN. ;D
that's awesome ....because if we're going to have a completely quacking random number for the speed limit, let's also make it unlucky. because people need to be unlucky while operating large, powerful, explosive machines.
someone mentioned stopping for 3 seconds at a red before turning. you're supposed to stop, wait 3 secs, and then turn? i totally didn't know that.
Soooo I'm thinking im going to be pulled over at least once on the way there and again on the way home. At least! Based off this thread. not saying I won't try to obey "The Rules of the Road" but I am from Jersey and we don't realize it til we leave the state...but we can sometimes drive like assholes! haha. Oh well.
What about having stuff on the roof of your vehicle? I think I read somewhere that everything needs to be covered? Is that true? As in, I plan on having my EZUp, in its bag, strapped to my roof rack. Does that also need a tarp over it?.... or is it OK to just have it strapped to the rack? Then to take that a step further, my camp kitchen is in a big milk crate type thing. Is a cargo net enough of a cover? Or would that need a tarp?

Im keeping my car the way it is. Has worked for the past 2 roo's. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Make sure everything is secured on the roof. If something overhangs, put something red to hang off of it, I see that on all those trucks carrying logs or work trucks with long ladders etc.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
I haven't been able to find anything to that effect. As far as I know, as long as it is securely tethered, it's okay. Not at all sure about that, though.

Seems like all you'll have is a milk crate and bagged EZ-Up... should be fine as far as I can tell. I just woulnd't push the rule real hard and put a bunch of fmall bags and shit.
