Stuff with protein is supposed to keep you full longer. English muffins with peanut butter? Kashi GoLean Crunch? (I guess it's not for everybody, though. I love it, but I've been told that I'm a weirdo.) I like to do the hardboiled eggs because I can make them on Sunday and eat them all week.
Julie, add more protein to your morning meal(s). And don't just eat Breakfast > Lunch > Dinner. Add in 2 smaller mid-meal snacks.
I use protein powder to make smoothies at work. Whole Foods Vanilla Whey Protein has 80 calories & a whopping 16g of protein per scoop! (It's ~$11/can but worth every cent!) Sometimes I'll use just the powder & water in a shaker cup. But at least once a day I add fresh berries and/or a banana plus some coconut water or fruit juice for extra nutrition.
I usually eat this then have my coffee by 8:30. I'll make another 3hrs later (11ish) and again around 3pm. With this much protein, I have to remind myself to "eat" again! Just be careful not to put too much fruit in there...it increases the sugar content which can make you crash faster.
Other protein options: (not sure if you like) cheddar/mozzarella, cottage cheese, cured meats (pepperoni, beef jerky, salami, etc.), nuts (esp. almonds), hummus, peanut butter (spread on a banana or toast), and yogurt (esp. Greek: it's got twice the protein as regular!). Hope this helps!

Tried Greek yogurt, still hungry after eating it.
I used to do the "small meals, two snacks a day" thing, until I realized that I was gaining weight. Three full meals is what seems to work best for me.
AND, this might as well be the best place to confess it: I think I'm lactose intolerant. This has been a very sad realization. I've tried using the lactaid pills to see if they would help, but alas, they have not. So I have to cut back on my milk/cheese intake.
Here's what I try to do. I usually eat a bowl of cheerios to get my carbs in and then have a bowl of egg whites. I like mine with hot sauce, or left over veggies from dinner. It can be tough to get used to so much food right in the mornings, but you'll adjust. I also have a snack at 9 or 10 am.
I keep Kashi granola bars, raw almonds, beef jerky and rice chex in my desk. The rice chex are pretty filling for a low sugar, low calorie snack. I'll have a cup of that for about 100 or 150 calories and a piece or two of beef jerky. All told that's maybe a 150 to 200 calorie snack that doesnt have much in it that's bad for you.
If the excessive hunger persists, maybe have your insulin levels checked? I was DX'ed w/hyperinsulinemia (insulin resistance, not diabetes) years ago after having the same symptoms as you. Hope you can find a solution soon!

Interesting. What did they do for you when you were diagnosed? I also get shaky if I don't eat enough breakfast. But only in the mornings.
My mom was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when she was 40. I've always been worried about that.

Just to chime in again. I'm going to keep encouraging you to eat more for breakfast.
If you're eating 1800 calories a day and only eating an instant oatmeal or a greek yogurt you're only getting about 140 to 200 calories for breakfast. That's less than 12% of your daily intake, but you're asking your body to run on that for 4 or 5 hours of activity.
I am totally down for eating more for breakfast. Just gotta find the right combo of things.
This morning I ate a BLT and a fruit cup for breakfast (Yeah, yeah, the BLT is not exactly healthy but that's not my goal right now.) And I feel really good! I'm pretty sure I could hold off on lunch for a bit today.

I'm getting hungry!! That BLT sounds so good. Almost as good as an MLT.
When discussing and reading about breakfast nutrition, I always hear it's the best time to get in a lot of carbs and some protein. BLT and fruit sound like a good combo to me!
JHo, Im with chico - keep eating breakfast! I would have suggested oatmeal, but you knocked it out right off the bat. Definitely protein, and definitely carbs. I think the english muffin topped with something is a good idea - peanut butter OR hummus. Then you can change it up when you want. I'd keep it up with the fruit cup too. Sugars in the morning so you burn them off early in the day, but additional food to make you feel full.
Protein powders can be pricey. But like Holls said, they totally work. Maybe use some of your magical shopping and couponing prowess to find some that isnt crazy $$$, and include that shake with your carbs and fruit. Just check the calories - as a meal replacement, per serving, there should be 200 or less, and the protien should be upwards of 25-30+. As a supplement, like holls, per serving less than 100 cals and 15 or more protein grams (essentially half of the meal replacement version).
Good luck madam! And dammit you've made me want a BLT now.
I think for dinner tonight Im gonna have chicken, and some leftover brussel sprouts from last night.

I have been eating a greek yogurt with fruit and almonds and an orange with some wheat thins for lunch and it really fills me up. Maybe you could do a yogurt, piece of fruit and maybe half a bagel for breakfast?
I've found also that I need to eat slower, because when I rush my food I don't feel full. I have no idea why that is, but I know the slower I eat, the less I eat......
Oh I also forgot to ask how the goat cheese and spinach pizza was? I hadn't tried one yet, so won't get another if it wasn't good.
I will experiment some more in the coming weeks to see what breakfast ideas work for me!
Now back to your regularly scheduled dinner thread
I think eggs in the morning are the best breakfast. They have so many good things for you and they are quick and easy. I have fried eggs (using olive oil) almost every morning and I'm usually not hungry till lunch. Try adding a small amount of a healthy type of fat with each meal in addition to protein to keep you feeling full. Fats are what really give you that satiated feeling and they aren't bad for you if you stick to the good kinds in small amounts (olive oil, real butter, coconut oil).

Oops, I just now saw this question!
For starters, I gave up sugar as much as possible. The hyperinsulinemia manifests similarly to diabetes insofar as the body stores sugar instead of burning it for energy, hence a tendency to gain. It's all part of the metabolic hell of PCOS. To treat it, they put me on an Rx to control it, but I only had minimal success. I was told to avoid carbs, but that was impossible when dating an Italian chef! My endocrinologist is STILL trying to figure out how to fix my metabolism.
I met with a nutritionist (try your local health food store) who helped me formulate a "clean" eating plan: minimal processed foods, only lean meats, all organic, supplements, etc. This method IS NOT CHEAP, but you get what you pay for in terms of physical well-being & nutrition. Shopping at Whole Foods lets me eat healthy, but geez...cha-ching!!!
Try a few approaches until you find something that works for you. Good luck!
OK, so back on topic:
FOR DINNER TONIGHT: grilled salmon w/steamed veggies, and AT LEAST 2 glasses of wine. <--- for heart health!

Dinner was lean cuisine fettuccine and like 3 servings of peas. Ran out of wine and oreos. Will probably have a couple of my grandma's tortillas with butter for a snack later.
Dinner was at The Three Broomsticks. Ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, and taters. With butterbeer to wash it down. ;D I bought the commemorative (cost out your ass) mug for 99 cent refills.
Oh burgers sound good for dinner - I was wondering what to do about dinner - kinda solves that problem - I think.
And Julie - breakfast - I'm like you on routine - I don't eat until I get to the office and found that if I don't eat the right thing for breakfast, I am STARVING at 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.
Solution for me was/is 4 hard boiled egg whites (I don't like the yolks - icky) and a serving of raw almonds. It's a light enough breakfast that I am not stuffed and feeling horrible but somehow keeps me full until lunchtime around noon.
