Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Why does Bruce S. have top billing? Roo tickets will sell out and it has absolutely nothing to do with him.
ummm he played half time of an event watched by 100 million people in this country. Anyone else on the bill have 100 million Americans watch them at one time?? How about in their entire career?? Both those answers are probably no.
Older people like The Boss. Older people tend to have more money to spend for entertainment. 'Roo probably makes about as much money from VIP as from GA. VIP people tend to be older and none of the other groups are going to attract as many people to VIP as Bruce.
Casual fans will be interested in seeing Bruce Springsteen. If you don't love Phish, chances are you will not be watching a 25 minute rendition of some song you have never heard of. It is hard for Phish fans to understand, but they irritate about 10 times as many people as they please.

I think when Phish is announced as being two nights, they deserve to be top billed. Put all opinions of the two to the side. Having a headlining act play twice must be for a reason? My best guess is because the band who happens to be two nights is the greater draw for a music festival. I know bruce is well respected in the minds of americans as being a patriot or a music legend but between bruce and Phish, who do you think appeals to the common bonnaroo goer and common festival goer?

comments like this are what bring up the term "n00b". You obviously haven't heard Phish live. You have just heard horror stories from your friends or acquaintances. If you enjoy live music, Phish is the definition of live music. Just because you don't like the fans it brings doesn't mean its bad music.

why the hell does it matter what name is in front of which? What it will come down to is who are you going to see... I'm not going to be at the Phish set saying to myself... damn, I really don't know why Bruce's name was in front of Phish's on the initial line up.

Comments like this are the definition of intolerance and lack of understanding. I don't like Phish. MOST people in the world do not like Phish. People who like Phish have a different taste in music then most people. Are they wrong, no. Are they intolerant and lack understanding, YES.
I have seen Phish, they aren't my cup of tea. If you like them, well that is great for you. I will be napping, checking out Centeroo or doing something else when they are on.
Arrogance and intolerance has been my experience time and time again when dealing with Phish fans. They are rudest, most intolerant and generally belligerent fans that I have ever met. It is ironic, because most of them are stoners that like to chill out and listen to Phish music. Tell them that you don't understand what the big deal is about Phish, or that you don't like Phish, well they sound a lot like Christian Bale (great link) www.aolcdn.com/tmz_audio/020209_christianbale.mp3

Don't post messages like that or Phish fans are going to tell you that you just don't understand live music. PHISH is LIVE MUSIC. They have to be on top. It is a crime to not have top billing.
Phish fans probably think the only reason Phish didn't play the Super Bowl is that they turned it down because they didn't want to cut any of their live songs down to less then 20 minutes.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I'm sure there was just as many fence jumpers in 06' as there was in 03' and 04', and probably just the same amount this year.
I watched the entire super bowl show and completely enjoyed it, just because you've ran into d-bags in the past, don't act like I am one too. I never said Phish should be billed first, I could care less - just as long as they play their three sets i'll be completely content and will let you enjoy your shows while I am at Phish.
I didnt mean Phish invented live music, or were the best...I'm just saying if you enjoy a good live show, you will probably enjoy Phish. Whether you like them or not - you have to respect what they do.

You honestly don't think that your comments were d-bag comments?? Honestly?? Did you even read the message you first posted to me? Let me refresh.
"comments like this are what bring up the term "n00b". You obviously haven't heard Phish live. You have just heard horror stories from your friends or acquaintances."
I would say a statement like that would fit very nicely in Webster's next to the definition of a d-bag statement. Your statement has all the elements of a classic d-bag statement. #1 Unwarranted Arrogance (check) You don't know me and yet obviously take a position of superiority over me #2 Insulting someone based on little or no evidence (check) #3 Telling me my opinion cannot be right (check) It is my opinion, therefore it is correct in expressing how I feel.
You my friend, are a d-bag. The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Unfortunately, you still have 12 more steps to go.
It is hard for Phish fans to understand, but they irritate about 10 times as many people as they please.

and your knowledge is amusing, but its almost annoying. Like the guy that has a weird nervous laugh after everything he says. Almost to the point where its annoying.
and almost regrettably I never personally attacked you either. So its cool, flamer Either way, I never intended to hurt your feelings about anything. And I apologize for you having to take the time to wiki "d-bag remarks".

Your first statement was telling me that I was a "noob" and that I basically didn't understand live music. Yet, you didn't intend you hurt my feelings?? Either you have spent too much time on a computer and not around other people or you aren't a kind person. You don't start off a discussion with an insult. If you did that in real life you are in for a major argument or the other person is just going to walk off.
You have to understand that Phish, aren't really that popular. All their albums put together probably did not sell even half as many copies as a single one of Bruce Springsteen's albums. I am not a huge Bruce fan. Lots of people aren't huge Bruce fans. Most people know Bruce Springsteen very well. Most people would like to see Bruce Springsteen. Most people in this country don't even know who Phish is.

Wait... what? Did Bruce Springsteen play Coventry? No he was televised for a couple minutes on television last I checked. I'd rather play a sold out festival of dedicated fans than the half time show for football fans.
I think this whole topic is ridiculous, but that was not an intelligent comment. Phish are extremely popular...

^Well the coventry was a parody compared to ANY other festival or show.
I'm just trying to get across to this guy that I wasnt trying to be a dick. Just trying to defend Phish's phans. They aren't all bad. Thats all I was trying to get across

I know coventry was a parody compared to other festivals, but it still doesn't make it untrue that they didn't have a huge following show up for the event.
I'm not a die hard fan either, and I don't think you are a wiener.

Who knew that this would be such a polarizing issue? I for one think TV on the Radio deserve top billing.
I like where this is going. I would like to see The Dead added to the lineup and be made top billing. Phish fans are great, Bruce fans are great. I think the fans we need to watch out for are those NIN fans and Mars Volta fans. I've read if there is a conflict amoung these two artists, the fans will go crazy with rage
EDIT: 100 posts! I'm glad to get this out of the way. The pressure was too much.

Bruce did sell out 10 shows at Giants Stadium a few years back. It isn't that Phish isn't popular, but they are not on the same level as Bruce.

I know that Bruce is far more popular than Phish, but I think he made a ridiculous comment by saying that Phish aren't popular. I probably shouldn't have used that coventry example, but I used it to get my point across.

I'm in the same boat my Dad asked me "Who's going with you?" and I'm like "Noone...uh......did you want to go?"
He wants to "talk about it". I'm going to make it sound like hell on earth:
"You gotta wait in traffic for 4 hours! Swelter in the heat trapped in the middle of 100,000 people for 4 days just to listen to a bunch of bands you never heard of!"
Tell your dad to get a VIP pass and you can do the regular. Let him explore the thing on his own- and then meet for the boss show and have a blast with yer pop. Many years down the road- you'll have a great memory of you and yer dad at bonnaroo.
Lol..this! I don't think my dad is the camping, no shower taking, porta potty using type, so i might be in the clear... i am gonna try and see if he brings it up first, i haven't even told him i am going. i already bought my ticket and been planning for 2 months.

This is a worthless stat to base anything off of. You think all 100 million of those people were watching just to see Bruce?? You think all 100 million of those viewers were even watching Bruce or did they take halftime to go on another beer run, order pizza, crank music up, socialize, etc?
Tom Petty has played the superbowl halftime show before, but if I'm not mistaken Radiohead was billed higher than him in 2006. Maybe there was a low number of viewers that year for the superbowl, and that's why... cause Radiohead surely hasn't had 100 million people watch them for 12 minutes on tv before.
within this community Phish is a bigger deal, but within the world at large Bruce Springsteen is a bigger deal. Is it sad I'm more excited about Max Weinberg than the Boss himself?
Nahh, I'm pretty excited about Max Weinberg too ;D
