well, you ask me why i'm drunk all the time it levels my head and eases my mind i just walk along and stroll and sing i see better days and i do better things
Bruce will be a grrrrrreat show to see a bunch of really messed up older guys dancing in really entertaining ways. Guess I'll just bring the earplugs and enjoy the atmosphere
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
I'm in the same boat my Dad asked me "Who's going with you?" and I'm like "Noone...uh......did you want to go?"
He wants to "talk about it". I'm going to make it sound like hell on earth:
"You gotta wait in traffic for 4 hours! Swelter in the heat trapped in the middle of 100,000 people for 4 days just to listen to a bunch of bands you never heard of!"
and how does bad come out of this?
I don't know. It's all good as far as I'm concerned!

There's 100K people there. I think you might be able to lose him.
Yeah but then I'm back to that whole "worrying about someone else's good time" crap.
The last time I saw Bruce was in 1984..wow I'm showing my age. I guess being form New Jersey Bruce has always been very big here, lots of concerts at Giants Stadium with lots of tailgating. The only turn off was the Jersey girls with the bad 80's hair.
I dont think it was just the 80s...still the same turn off.
within this community Phish is a bigger deal, but within the world at large Bruce Springsteen is a bigger deal. Is it sad I'm more excited about Max Weinberg than the Boss himself?
Nahh, I'm pretty excited about Max Weinberg too ;D
It would take a gigantic set of cojones - probably a pair big enough to break a camera during a power slide - to be the one to tell Springsteen he doesn't get top billing.
And he definitely deserves it. He might not be #1 for a lot of the Bonnaroo community, but that doesn't matter. The people who would be going to Bonnaroo for Phish were already likely to go. I think they're aiming for a sell-out this year. There's been increased competition on the festival circuit the last few years, and Superfly had to bring in the big guns.
Now, enough about The Boss & Max Weinberg... I'm more excited for "Little Steven" Van Zandt.

most the people that i want to go this year with me are like "whose phish", the ones that do know them went to the bar at 6 this morning to celebrate them being on the lineup
One of the all time greats, revolutionized music when he burst on to the scene in the 70's, a legendary writer, live performer, rock and roll hall of famer, and one of the true good guys in music. People react negatively to headliners every year, and then they play, and if they can carry the big stage, and rock the big crowd, all is well. Bruce does this every time he plays. It'll work. The bands I miss not seeing billed most - The Who, MMJ, and Arcade Fire.
I expected this question when I saw the lineup last night. But hey, it's freakin' Bruce. Living in Philly, he's HUGE here, and he's alot bigger overall than Phish. Someone said this earlier, but maybe not in your group of phriends, but the rest of the world Bruce is the man. I can't wait to hear it down the farm, "man, Phish is like, wayyy better than bruce icantsingsteen, the man definetly put the wheels under this bus and just let it ride...corporations...you custys." It should give me a few laughs this year ;D
Why does Bruce S. have top billing? Roo tickets will sell out and it has absolutely nothing to do with him.
I am trying to think of an effective yet not personally insulting way to respond to the complete and utter absurdity of this question. I cannot.
my thoughts exactly.
Coming from someone who is not a fan of the Boss or Phish (anyone ever notice they spelled their name wrong? ), I have no biases when it comes to this. Bruce is definitely a bigger name. He can sell out a stadium in any city he goes to. Phish needs to rely on people travelling from all over to do the same.
bruce is the biggest draw in the lineup...the guy is a hall of famer and earned the right to be top billing
There are a lot or arguments here about top billing that I believe and support. Bruce is a Rock and Roll legend, and while I am not a huge fan I have nothing but respect for him. That being said 85% of the people at Bonnaroo will be there for Phish. First off Phish fans are not even suprised at the idea of driving 1000+ miles to see them, and secondly most of the hardcore Bruce fans are in the Northeast where they get to see him pretty regular. I have no problem with him having top billing, but it will be Phisharoo for sure.
At Bonnaroo 2020 when Trey is 55-60 and they come back I am sure Phish will get top billing at the festival.

I would have been a little pissed if Bruce didn't pull out that powerslide. I think there was a thread for this pre-lineup announcement..and I said Phish would be 1st, ESPECIALLY if they play 2 shows...but uh..
I just hope when my dad finds out that Bruce is gonna be there, he won't wanna come...oh god..............

Lol..this! I don't think my dad is the camping, no shower taking, porta potty using type, so i might be in the clear... i am gonna try and see if he brings it up first, i haven't even told him i am going. i already bought my ticket and been planning for 2 months.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

I don't know if this is a good argument for Bruce to be honest. Phish can sell out a stadium in any city he goes to as well, and then even more fans flocking the lot outside just to be close to the experience. Bruce hasn't drawn 100,000 people to an indian reservation in the middle of the everglades just to hear him and his band play for a solid weekend. I've heard people say that Bruce should be top bill cause he sells out Giants Stadium in 15 minutes. Have any of you paid attention to the Phish tour? Try 15 seconds...
Aside from the fact that I really don't care who is top bill... I think that Superfly was probably more excited about snagging Phish than Bruce, but that's just pure speculation on my part. Phish is probably more of a money maker than Bruce is for Superfly at this point in time.
I guess really it just comes down to giving respect where respect is due. Bruce is the Boss, and has had a longer and much more successful career than Phish in my opinion.
if his show has any similarities to his Super Bowl performance, I'm leaving the farm early again.
It won't. It'll be 3 hours rather than 13 minutes, and it won't be aired on NBC
haha... this is true. And maybe his show won't have a referee in it, and he won't come off as kind of a douche. Not knocking Bruce either, just for clarification...

It should be on NBC and keep Bruce away from the farm. (Summer Breeze indeed)

Sorry guys, but I have been trying to get my dad out on the farm, he is the craziest partying fool given the right environment, and farm is right up his ally. Unfortunately he has not been able to go, but is dying to.
