Because he is a rock legend, and his tour consistently is the one of the highest single artist grossing tours in the world. Believe it or not just as many people are making Springsteen calculations as Phish calculations right now.

The Boss is huuuuuge. Super bowl is a pretty big gig to come off of. I wouldent say "nothing" sure they will sell out anyway, but alot of people are really into it for the boss. Myself not so much, my dads drunk friends oh yea.
Why does Bruce S. have top billing? Roo tickets will sell out and it has absolutely nothing to do with him.
Some of you guys are really kidding yourselves. Phish may be a bigger band within your circle of phriends, but in the real world, Bruce is the bigger name.
(sorry if I sound rude. I'm just sick of the jam/phish fans on here acting like the rest of us are ruining 'roo. Almost all of the negativity around here is coming from bitter hippies. Just chill out and enjoy the fest like the rest of us.)
I just hope when my dad finds out that Bruce is gonna be there, he won't wanna come...oh god..............
I'm in the same boat my Dad asked me "Who's going with you?" and I'm like "Noone...uh......did you want to go?"
He wants to "talk about it". I'm going to make it sound like hell on earth:
"You gotta wait in traffic for 4 hours! Swelter in the heat trapped in the middle of 100,000 people for 4 days just to listen to a bunch of bands you never heard of!"
The last time I saw Bruce was in 1984..wow I'm showing my age. I guess being form New Jersey Bruce has always been very big here, lots of concerts at Giants Stadium with lots of tailgating. The only turn off was the Jersey girls with the bad 80's hair.

i've gone with my dad the past couple years, but he's a hippie at heart and has been following the GD since he was in college, so he's pretty keen to the festival atmosphere

HAHAHA. I saw him at the Meadowlands in either 84 or 85. It was a five-night run of shows and we'd driven hours from Long Island to find out the show was cancelled due to bad weather. We took our tailgating stuff and consumed it under a giant Exxon sign (sheer coincidence) at some gas station close to the stadium. That show ended up being rescheduled as the last show of that run and what a show it was. That's the first and last time I saw Bruce with the E-Street band, but I was lucky enough to see his JazzFest Seeger Sessions' set just after Hurricane Katrina. People may not dig his music, but there is no denying the man is a talented entertainer.

There's 100K people there. I think you might be able to lose him.
within this community Phish is a bigger deal, but within the world at large Bruce Springsteen is a bigger deal. Is it sad I'm more excited about Max Weinberg than the Boss himself?
