Now with Rothbury confirmed, EVERY Rothbury rumor is being shot on the internet at the rate of a fire hose, and within one of the articles, I spotted something interesting.
Now, my understanding was they were done touring, at the least. Jack said they'd pull a Beatles and just record albums, no tours. So either this guy is misinformed, or just a plain idiot, but WHERE are these new WS album rumors? Has anyone heard them? I'd be REALLY stoked to hear this, but it kinda bums me out since I heard Jack and Thom Yorke were planning to record together. Anyone got a clue on this?
This just looks like some predictions of some very likely bands that are going to be there. That way they can say they "called it" when some of those bands show up. Just my thoughts though.
I also thought I heard somewhere that the White Stripes were going to tour again at some point. Can't remember though. It was a long time ago.
I had thought that they were going to tour sometime soon, but I'm way behind on the White Stripes rumors. I had heard that during one of The Racs' tour breaks, Jack did record some Stripes stuff.
I'm just concerned that Jack's going to fuck up his neck again like he did during The Racs' tour.

Last I heard, Meg got on stage during a Racs show and froze up. Before that, Jack said there's a good chance that the WS's will just record albums without a tour. I hope that's not the case, but it looks more and more likely each day
I loved the White Stripes. They put on a great show. That said, they pretty much played out their concept. I think they need time off or a new construct of rules to work around. In the meantime, I'd like to see what White can do outside of the Raconteurs and Stripes.
^^played out their concept? I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that. They are not a "concept band". Since their debut, they've continued to put out solid album after solid album; and what's more, they manage to maintain that distinct White Stripes sound while branching out into many different genres of music - classic rock, blues, alternative/indie, et cetera. I really hope they do tour soon.
That being said, I agree about wanting to see what Jack can do outside The Racs and The Stripes. I'd prefer to see him focus his talent on The White Stripes, though; while I still think that The Raconteurs are a good band, for me, they don't have that jaw-dropping, raw style that's such an important part of The White Stripes' sound.
By concept, I mean, they have rules, mostly involving the number 3. They don't use set lists...yada yada yada. I'm sure if you're a Stripes fan, you know these things, and if not, you have google which will link you to dozens of articles of Jack White pontificating about the rules of the band. To me, the concept thing peaked with Elephant, and the past two albums have been pretty middling. I think if you combined them both, you'd have an album as good as Elephant.
As for the Raconteurs, I like them, but I tend to think Benson's compositions stick out like sore boring thumbs. I know White's in the band to be part of a band, but his superior talent is way too obvious. His songs just pop better.
I'd like to see him try a Ben Fold type experiment. Write some solo stuff, put together a great backing band and hit the road. But then I'm not sure that idea would particularly interest him.

First of all, that guy is ignorant. Radiohead would never play Rothbury. Neither would Coldplay for that matter.
Jack is also working on a new musical group, but he says that the WS album is top priority. Honestly, i'm getting all this from wiki so always check before you freak, you know?
I for one can't wait for their return, cause they're my favorite band.

^Why wouldnt those bands play Rothbury, jw...?? Coldplay has dates set already for the same time as Rothbury...so thats out anyways..
While I tend to agree, Radiohead will not play Rothbury THIS year. I believe Rothbury will bust out the Epicness, possibly that was Bonnaroo 03' w/ The Dead, Roger Waters/Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers, Widespread Panic and a decent undercard mostly consisting of "jam" and "electronic jam" mixed in w/ some dj's and "indie".
Though the Lineup isnt due out till March apparently..
I think we'll see a new record and tour. Jack said in a Racs interview last year "When I'm done with this I'll get back with Meg." I'm hoping something anyway. The Conan appearance next week is a good sign I think.

Coldplay wouldn't play Rothbury because they would think "it would look bad for their image", probably.
As for Radiohead, I think they're done with the festivals for this year. They played Roo, so I guess they could play Rothbury in the future.
