I want to see the Reader too, but I won't let myself see certain movies until I read the book. I am going to read the book next week though.
I really want to see The Wrestler and Milk. I am going to see Rachel Getting Married for my birthday. There is an outdoor bar above the theatre so we're gonna go up there for dinner and drinks first. I hear that Anne Hathaway's performance is stellar though.

I saw The Reader and I'm feeling pretty good about Kate Winslet winning Best Supporting (assuming she isnt up and winning for Best Actress).
I'm really sad that I missed I've Loved You So Long. I keep hearing great things about Kristin Scott Thomas' performance.
Didnt see The Spirit. The previews pretty much scared me off of that one. I"m also pretty worried about what they're going to end up doing with Watchmen. The art has me thrown off a little and an interview with the Director (I should mention that I dont like 300) makes me think this production may clash with my reading of the gn.
Why was I not informed of this earlier? Have a karma for this incredibly exciting information. That has the potential to be amaaaaaazing. I just looked it up on IMDb, the graphics and cast alone have me pumped.
i like Zach Snyder because i think when it comes to directing adaptations he has impressed me twice. 2004's Dawn of the Dead was a very decent zombie flick with just bad timing coming out within a year or so of the momumental 28 Days Later. it was just a great modernizing of Romero's classic trying to bring in the 21st century scare tactics. 300 was great for what it was. a 100% graphic novel adaptation with no historical research. people going into it expecting a good historical war movie were bound to be disappointed.
from what i hear Zach Snyder treated Watchmen like his "precious". he'll do as peter jackson did for the Lord of the Rings... release a theatrical cut for the studios and then release an extended cut for the fanboys. the only thing i've heard he has done to alter the original is "modernize" the ending. **SPOILER ALERT**: i read that he changes the giant squid apparition into a hydrogen bomb going off in the city. idk how i'll feel about that until i see it but it seems that it will keep the same message without coming off hokey too the uninitiated.

I know, I found out a few months ago from an article in Rolling Stone. Here is the link.
yeah awesome to see Slumdog sweep. also happy that kate winslet finally won some awards. might be alone here but really thrilled that Colin Farrel won for In Bruges. that was probably my 2nd favorite film of 08 next to Slumdog and he was brilliant in it imo.
Speaking of movies being pushed back, I'm so excited about The Road, but it's original release date was sometime in November. Anyone read the book? I'm wondering if they stayed true to the novel, and the Ratings board said NC-17. I'm thinking its pushed back for editing, but haven't heard.
It wasn't pushed back for editing. It got pushed back for the same reasons The Soloist got pushed back. A lot of the studios are cutting their budgets and releasing less films in a given year, so they held back The Road to meet the quota of films in 2009 and save on budget this year.
I imagine the film will get a pretty hard R. The director's previous feature was The Proposition, which is an Australian western starring Guy Pearce and is well worth checking out. One of the more underrated movies in recent memory.
I caught The Proposition awhile back. Great film!
I have to come to the defense of Ledger. IMHO, I think he played the hell out of that role. I could turn around and say many of the same things about Jack's portrayal of The Joker. All it was was Jack in a purple suit, picking places to go over the top. But then again, those first Batman films were trash to begin with--IMHO.
Anyone seen Mongol? Caught it this weekend. Fabulous flick!
I want to see Mongol, don't know if it's playing anywhere. I remember a few years back when there was talk of a Hollywood Genghis Khan movie with Steven Seagal as Khan.
That would've been awful. "Mongol" is getting good reviews, so I've got to check it out.
anyone see Danny Boyle's Sunshine? i saw it a few days ago and am still unsure how i feel about it. visually its stunning and the soundtrack collab between john murphy and underworld is pretty great, but i just feel like the film kinda fell apart at the end with the whole psychopath monster guy on the loose.
Going to see Gran Torino tonight. Anybody caught that yet?
just saw it last night, and really liked it, Clint is a real steely-eyed bad-ass. It was a real emotional drainer for me, though, i felt really spent afterward

Wow, you guys kinda make me feel like a shut in. I think the last movie I saw in the theater was Wall-E...
That being said I really liked Wall-e.....Oh I lied, the last movie I saw in the theaters was just a little while ago. I ran into my friends as they were going to a movie and they invited me a long, I hadn't seen any previews for the movie, I knew of the original but didn't know anything about the new one..... The Day The Earth Stood Still....
....
....
The first few minutes of it I saw Keanu Reeves' name, and much to the disdain of my friends, "ah crap" escaped my mouth.... longest 2 hours of my life.....

How old is the man?!? He is still a bad-a$$ in a major way. I loved it. I understand what you mean. I was kind of expecting it, but was pretty spent as well.
and gran torino got totally shafted at the oscar noms.
Not even a Best Actor nod which he certainly deserved. The movie was good but not "best picture" material, IMO.
Agreed. I couldn't believe it when I heard.
How about Appalossa(sp?!?)? Ed Harris is a fine actor, but not the best director, IMO. It was loaded with great people (I'm a Viggo fan), but never seemed to really get going. I thought some stuff should have been moved around, script-wise, and just seemed to need someone else behind the camera.
