I was never a big Metallica fan, my brothers liked them, so I would hear it growing up, I went to the show expecting to be blown away. I was, completely. I remember dancing my hiney off the whole time saying I love Metallica. I thought the loss of sound was a special treat for the people in the pit only...
I wasn't a Metallica fan before the show and I'm still not. I have to give them credit though, they came out with a great attitude and obviously worked hard at something they truly love doing.
I do have some complaints about the crowd. Mosh pits and chants of "show your tits" have no place at 'Roo.
It was a pretty good performance although ridiculously canned. I don't know why I would expect anything less though. These guys have been performing for over 20 yrs.
So I kinda had to laugh at the screaming you wanna hear us rock Bonnaroo with a semi-weak response and then, ALRIGHT YEAH YOU WANNA HEAR US ROCK
They made the best of the situation and even played through the sound snafu.

metallica had a chance to do something really special instead they treated it as any other show. the only saving grace to their show was the fireworks and pyro they had other than that it was an ordinary set and i think they walked away realizing that they just played in front of the most powerful crowd in the states right now and left with a bad taste in their mouth. just my opinion

The only bad thing I heard about Metallica since the show has been on here. Walking through camp on Sat morning I heard people all around us talking about how good the show was. Think think Metallica supprised a lot of people and overall left a very favorable impression.

Actually youre way off buddy, they put a lot of effort into this show. My good friends father is the sound engineer for them and he said that they wanted to prove the haters wrong here, probably the reason why they acknowledged "bonnaroo" so many times. I didnt see/hear one person complain about them not trying or treating this show like it was another stop on their tour which sure suprised me

Agreed, I didn't hear one complaint at all after they played. Even the people who stayed at their sites because they had no interest admitted it sounded pretty good.

This was my third time seeing them, and I can assure everyone, that this was the absolute best. The had an extra burst of energy throughout the Roo show that I just haven't seen at regular shows. They were so stoked to play bonnaroo! When it finally came time, the fukking delivered! AMAZING setlist, very well executed, and awesome energy. It was awesome when Lars said, "The last time we played an outdoor set in the US was four years ago, and I can't think of anywhere better than right fukking here at bonnaroo!"
Just an unreal show. I'm still watching the videos way up loud, pretending I'm there again! Long live Metallica, and long live Bonnaroooooooo!
I have to agree, while on the farm I didn't hear a single person say anything negative about the show. I was only going to catch the beginning and then chill at my tent to prepare for the late night, but then once they started, I found myself having an absolute blast! I couldn't walk away from that, even in the name of relaxing.
Bonnaroo - if you ain't exhausted, you ain't doin' it right.
I met the guys that run that and the livebonnaroo and livedownloads .. . and they were cool, and i really love what they do... so, I really want to support it, and see it grow.

oh i do too, i have no doubt the version they put out will be better than the one we have. this one seems to cut out a little bit now and again. i was wondering if the copy on the downloads page was an IEM pull.

its a webcast. hence the awful mix and compression artifacts.
I actually met James Hetfield after the show and he seemed to be really pleased with the show. He said he really enjoyed playing a festival where people weren't so much there just to hear certain bands, but to hear music in general.

Metallica was OFF THE FRICKIN' CHAIN. AWESOMENESS!!!!
I've seen a lot of young metal bands (Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, Bless The Fall, Altreyu, Operator, etc.) who can't play for more than 45 minutes to an hour sets. It's just too physically demanding. It's impressive that guys the age of Metallica can play a two hour set. It's not human.
Much better crowd interaction than The Police, of course that's not saying much.
Anyone remember the What Stage screwing up and shorting out during one of their last songs? For a few seconds you could see them playing but there was no sound.
