This could be a fun idea to discover new music. You just post and recommend a band you think the person above you would like. Then the next person will do the same for you (so check back). The first poster can just recommend whatever they want, to me, but then presumably you'd take the previous post into consideration when making your recommendation. Or not, whatever.
Make sense? We'll see. What artist should I check out?
Um...well, I have no idea what kind of music you like, but here's a shot:
The Shins Brian Wilson style pop music, with a near perfect blend of electric and acoustic instrumentation. All three of The Shins' albums have their own unique personalities, and all three are among my favorite albums of the 2000's.
Dora there is no website because they broke up probably 4 years ago and they were just a memphis local band, but they Kicked ass... hopefully i'm not so drunk i won't remember to find the CD tomorrow and sendspace it for you...
but you might be able to drive to memphis and get teh CD from Cat's on Germantown Pkwy

hmmm, hard to say, but i always like to recommend a band called Mew. They are very underrated IMHO. Their album "And The Glass Handed Kites" was quite an experience listening to for the first time.

check out colourmusic. a couple of the roys are lifelong friends. they've opened for the likes of silversun pickups, the Flaming Lips and are currently on tour with British Sea Power.
"Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us." — Charles Bukowski

mulcherries, good call on Little Feat. I was actually listening to "Waiting for Columbus" today. Love those guys.
I'm tempted to go with a band that is somehow related to Feat (Zappa, Beefheart, Tower of Power, or George's solo album). But instead I'll fall back on what I know you like, and try to marry it with something that I think might be new to you.
I'll go with... Shakti. That's jazz guitarist John McLaughlin's mid-70's, Indian-classical-meets-jazz-fusion group consisting of himself and some of the greatest Indian musicians of our time. Their sound has the energy, emotion, grooves and excellent guitar solos you love, plus a brilliant amalgam of disparate styles and influences. Check out their eponymous debut and thank me later.
Its definitely a concept album. layers of music, and just start at the beginning and listen through, its totally worth it.
highlights: fareveller, intro song
unfortunately it was from several years ago when i ripped it to my computer, and in my naive early years, i didn't realize that 92kbps mp3 wouldn't be ideal in the future... and i can't find the actual disc anymore
so its sendspacing now, i'll post the link when its done

When Buckethead has time, he dabbles into a project with virtuostic keyboardist Travis Dickerson in an outfit called Thanatopsis. They make very beautiful music together.
Check out the track "Nostrum" that's currently up on TDRS studio's myspace page from the album Axiology:
