I'm surprised nobody's said Subset Rubdown yet...if this was a Coachella message board it probably would have happened, huh
Which isn't to say I think it is, I'm just listening to it right now for the first time because I do what Pitchfork tells me to do like a good little boy.

I can't say it's as good as the Wolf Parade album, although I've only given it a handful of listens. I'm really, really, really looking forward to their tour with Frog Eyes though.
As for the new Strokes, I'm a total fanboy, so it's hard for me to be even remotely objective. That said, I'll do my best here. It has all the earmarks of a "transition" album (and I said that about Room On Fire, which has turned into one of my all time favorite recordings, but I mean it this time ) -- the rumored disengagement of band members, the escalated production, the crazy guitar solos, the huge sonic departures, and just about every crazy stereotype that would put it into the category. Alright, I've puked up the truth, so now I can go into verbal masturbation mode -----> The songs are just so god*amed fu*king good! All the hooks are there, the guitars sound like gold, the progression suits them, and there are only a couple of songs that I would classify as below "excellent." Now, I only wish I could find it...it went missing after my move. ;D
^^^I totally disagree with you about the album, but totally agree with you about the direction of the band. I think it's a tweener album. But it's not the type of thing I expect after two albums I consider near perfect. That's where my complaint comes from.

I guess my problem is I am not that critical of the music I like. I just like it if I like it. I don't put as much thought into everything as you do dudezer. But I do really think thats great you can explain why you don't like the album and that you can look so deep into the music. I can really respect that even though I do not agree with the "awful" statement.
The tunes rock live, actually all of them do, I never thought I would say that after seeing some TV performances of theirs.

Totally agree Aquarium. I was really excited to hear it but it just makes me want to listen to the Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi instead. I know Yoshimi is a hard album to follow up but I thought they would do a better job.
Clouds Taste Metallic. Does nobody listen to pre-Soft Bulletin era Lips?
Definitely not saying album of the year so far, but i cant stop listening to Editors - the back room. i'm a sucker for that Ian Curtis voice.
A lack of melody killed this for me when I first heard it last year. Following listens showed it softening me up, but I'm still not sold on these guys. They haven't grabbed me like Interpol. I missed an opportunity to see their double bill with Stellastarr a couple weeks back due to a Yeah Yeah Yeahs conflict, but I've heard good things.

I have not picked up the album yet but I saw them play a few weeks ago and I was sold right there. The album is on my list since the show was super super.
After a few listens now, I definatley have to put the new Chili Peppers album up there. There really aren't any bad songs, as a matter of fact they are all pretty catchy. The old-school fans, that like thier more rap-funk-punk stuff, might not like it. I do. It's pretty amazing, for an album of that length, to not have any filler.
This is my best of '06 to date as well. I think I was officially sold when the guy who sounds like Aesop Rock busts a verse on track 6 (?).
The Band of Horses has really grown on me as well (especially "The Funeral"), but I still find it odd that I can't possibly listen to them without thinking about MMJ a lot.
Although I'm not sure exactly how I feel about it yet, it is a Ben Harper album and is definitely a big step up from the subpar Diamonds on the Inside.
The new harper album is absolutely brilliant. No more is he just a neat guy to check out, but a substantial voice of the new rock generation. This album defines that role and masters it.
Ben Harper and Tv on the Radio take it so far for me. That said I am eagerly awaiting Sufjan, as the three tracks that have already leaked sound phenomenal...
Ive only listened to the first CD from Stadium Arcadium so far. A few times, i didnt want to overload myself all at once, so ill listen to the second one today or tomorrow, but so far, so Frickin good!!!!

Yeah, Stadium Arcadium is pretty amazing so far. As if he hadn't so far, Frusciante is really making a name for himself. He's the key to RHCP in my opinion. Out of the 28 tracks on the album, there are only 2 or 3 that I didn't instantly like.
The Islands album has grown on me over the past few weeks. Still nothing has yet to approach the sheer joy of listening to unmixed cuts of Return to Cookie Mountain. Looking forward to June 20th when it's officially released (hopefully).

i was really disapointed in the new lips album. band of horses is great islands will take my vote though(for now) the guy on track six is busdriver and he will be accompanying them live (wed night at the metro) hooray!! honorable mention destroyer-destroyer's rubies
Speaking of Destroyer, Destroyer's Rubies my favorite album of the year so far. If you enjoy The New Pornographers, you'll probably recognize Dan Bejar's voice.
Trust me, these current picks surprise nobody more than myself...
I really was disappointed on first listen, the second listen piqued my interest, the third listen was casual -- every subsequent listen has left me thrilled. Their debut hinted at their ability to sew a gorgeous melody, but who know they could do this?! It holds up great.
This one (Beirut's Gulag Orkestrar) was another one that took a couple of listens to reveal itself. At first I thought it had a couple of highlights, but was a little gimmicky with all the Eastern European styling. In fact, it was even a little grating at times. Now though, it's getting better with each listen.

1) only out 3 days now "broken boy soldiers" by the raconteurs tops my list...... after that i will go..... 2) "at war with the mystics" not sure what the fuss is about, this album is awesome.... stop trying to hear "soft bulletin" or "yoshimi" when you listen, this is different lips... they don't stay the same for long 3) "pearl jam".... typical pearl jam, they do not dissapoint too often
need to hear soon, i am prepared to be excited.... "stadium arcadium" paul simon's new album neil young's new album built to spill's new album
and whenever thom yorke's new album comes out that will for sure be my top album of 2006, unless i keep falling for the raconteurs.... this album is awesome
