I saw bootsy collins play a show recently, he's amazing. He's playing a jazz fest after show next friday in new orleans at the joy, trying to get to that one too if i can swing it
I just saw one of the greatest shows of my life tonight. I still need time to process everything, but there's no way this isn't new top 20 material.
No, I could not get a window seat, nor could I call Tyrone - but after a show like that, I couldn't care less. Erykah Badu and her band had so much love to send the audience tonight, and we sent every bit of it right back at them. Somebody needs to wind the clock back six hours so I can go do it all over again.
Saw The Revivalists and Moon Taxi last night in Philly. SO GOOD. I had only heard a couple Moon Taxi songs before seeing them, and I was really impressed. The Revivalists brought a lot of energy like usual. I'd see them play every day if I could. Is that creepy..?

Moon Taxi is amazing! A few years back, maybe 2009/2010, I went to an 8 off 8th at Mercy Lounge (basically a local band night) in Nashville, where some friends of mine were playing (a band called Static Revival r.i.p.), I was just about to leave after they were done. They told me you should stick around for this band Moon Taxi that was playing. I did and oh man I was so glad I did! Over the years since then they have been one of my favorite bands.
On Monday I saw Local Natives down here in Fort Lauderdale, it was such a good show. I didn't really get into them until after 'roo last year, but I'm glad I did.
I'm pretty sure the show last night went longer than anticipated, and it seemed like Moon Taxi played more songs than they planned on. But everyone there was really into it, so it was awesome.
Local Natives are amazing live! I was obsessed with them right after roo, they were pretty much all I was listening to. I saw them in the fall and was so worried their show wouldn't live up to their bonnaroo performance, but it did. That made me happy.
Saw Warpaint at a record store today. They even served free pizza. It was perfect for me because they're a band I could go either way on at Roo and this knocks out a conflict for me. Other than that I just love seeing bands in tiny, packed little spaces they had free pizza.
I saw Xibalba a little while ago and their were pretty damn good, the pit was vicious. I don't listen to a lot of hardcore but I think these guys are pretty good.
Ok, first off, the show was excellent. It was at the Aragon, which holds 4500. I noticed that the show sold out but it was over the weekend.
We got into the venue just after 830. When we got in there was this hippie looking dude with long gnarly hair and shorts and a cape leading calisthenics. We were raising our arms and shakin' it out for about 10 minutes. He was funny though and the crowd was pretty into it. Since we had gotten there a little late we didnt get a very great spot. We could see, but it wasnt great. My friend had never heard The Knife other than the video for Heartbeats. So, she didnt have any idea what she was going to see.
There were definitely two distinct groups of people there. There were those of us that knew all the albums and were stoked just to see them and there was a big group of people that knew Deep Cuts. The Deep Cuts people seemed like they had a good time, but they definitely weren't as engaged in every song. The others were dancing their asses off most of the show.
I think what I appreciated most was that the whole show used the entire stage. There was always something to look at no matter where you were looking. The reviews that say Karin and Olof dont take center stage were pretty accurate. They really tried not to overpower the dancers and other musicians. I think people are overreacting to the choreography. Maybe it's just because so few artists put any time or effort into creating a show like this anymore, but I wasnt blown away. It was nicely stage and thoughtfully put together, but had I been at a modern dance performance I would have been really underwhelmed.
Wrap Your Arms Around Me Raging Lung We Share Our Mothers' Health Bird Without You My Life Would Be Boring A Tooth for an Eye One Hit Full of Fire Ready to Lose Pass This On Stay Out Here Silent Shout
Saw Easy Star All Stars on Monday. It was beyond fantastic, they're touring "Dub Side Of The Moon" where they cover Darkside of The Moon in full while playing Radiohead, Beatles and Michael Jackson along with originals. It was just a non stop dance party, highly recommend them if they come near ya.
Also got a free ticket to see Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20. Though I'm not a fan, I was suprised how fun it was, a little boring at parts, but it was solid, lotta famous songs played I didn't know he wrote.
Saw Fitz and the Tantrums here in Knoxville a couple days ago. Not really a big fan but tix were $5 so I thought what the hell. They put on a great show and played a sweet cover of Sweet Dreams. Check them out live if you get the chance.
I saw Eric Clapton last night. I had heard mixed things about Clapton in concert, but he was impressive playing both acoustic and electric guitars. He had Paul Carrack in his band. Carrack took the lead vocals on a couple of songs and has such a great voice. I'm glad on got to cross him off my bucket list.
Wow. All I can say is wow. Last night, I saw a great band in the most intimate amazing eclectic venue I've ever been to.
Venue: Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery Band: Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band (side project of Tunde from TV on the Radio with his friends)
This venue, it's literally a funeral home. The band played in a tiny small creepy room where services are held. I'm talking stain glass windows church like setting surrounded by the dearly departed. After you park, on the cemetery grounds, you are free to roam the grounds. I said hi to Johnny Ramone. There were many graves of note. This is where Hollywood's get laid to rest. I had chills pretty much the entire night, the cemetery setting had such a profound impact on everyone's mood and the overall vibe of the night.
Sometimes there are outdoor concerts in a field adjacent to the cemetery plots, but last night I was lucky to see my show in the intimate Masonic Lodge that is onsite:
The tiny room could hold like, 100? It was amazing. Front row seat no problem.
Now, the band.... HOLY ASDKLLJALSKJDLKASJDLKASJDLKAJD!!!!!!!!!! That shiz was crazy!!!!! Omg I can't get over how much I like Tunde and everything he touches. TV on the Radio is a new recent obsession of mine and this little show made me forget all about him. It was so good. The setting was intimate and I could feel the music on a spiritual level. It brought me through an adventure of emotions and I'm just left this morning wanting more.
Easily one of the best of 2014 so far. Roo missed the boat with not booking these guys, I hope an album is in their future but for now there is just this five song EP. I promise you, you will not be disappointed with checking out this band in your town if they tour again.
Nope. Waited in line for 'Mat's tickets at Midway stadium. Sold out in 20 minutes. That's two hours I won't get back and have zero tickets to show for it. Fingers crossed for adding a Sunday show...
Just caught one of my favorite acts 9 Electric,'some hard rock with a bit of electronic loops thrown in up in Springfield, VA. Actually saw the lead singer of that band at the same club with his old band some 10 years ago. Great show openin' fer Powerman 5000 if you you wanna spend maybe $15 or so.
Also saw HAIM tonight and they were just fantastic! Nice cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well," and some nice solo work on "Forever." First time seein' 'em since last 'Roo and they've gotten way better at their craft (not to knock these sisters), and the album sounds just great live! "My Honey & I" and "My Song 5" bein' two of my favs.
finally saw lady gaga last night! she is phenomenal. i had an actual tear when she did an encore of my most anticipated song "gypsy." she was everything i imagined!

You guys were right. It was a very loud, glorious seance in which the bowels of hell and heaven were dumped live onto stage at a volume and intensity intended to scour the earth.

Also met Michael Gira after the show!
Isn't it glorious? I'd give anything for Gira to be at 'Roo again. Last year you could literally watch the people who'd eaten the last of their party favors walk face-first into the sonic soul void ripped by Swans.
There is no album that more defines the hard-edge between those who get it, and those who will never get it. There is no fear. There is no doubt. There is no meaning. There is no purpose. We are the lens. Swans is this acoustic sermon to the altered, intelligent mind, delivered on-high from a demon-dog of a man, cruelly wielding the instruments of our metamorphosis.
