The guitarist in Kevin Morby's band, Meg Duffy, is like Duane Allman at times.
I can't remember which stream of his I watched, I think it was Prima, and she was pretty impressive. She's got another project I've wanted to check out, Hand Habits.
I watched them on the Bonnaroo stream and was impressed with her. As much as I like Morby, she was a main factor in me going to this show. Hand Habits is good, but doesn't feature the slide lead guitar she displays with Kevin.

I posted this in Upcoming Shows because I forgot this thread existed..
Photay's set was holy shiz levels of fun last night. He really plays around with his material when he plays live; a lot of the songs you'll recognize if you're familiar with the record*, but only tonally, not necessarily melodically, for maybe 50% of the live version. As he said when I spoke to him afterward, there's obviously a lot of prep that goes into essentially playing a different song on stage than the recording, but it's more fun for him and so it's more fun for us. It was good chatting with him. But, for real, if you like his record even at all, check his show out. Dance party status.
*which I highly recommend if you like weirdo electronic music that has to sort of work it's way up to a full groove. Or a true groove at all.
Note: I know that quacking around with your songs on stage is far from revelatory. But for an electronic show like that, usually I go into those shows expecting to essentially hear carbon copies of the record. I'm usually right. I was wrong last night.

Mac DeMarco & Flaming Lips were great last night.
I'm from Louisville so was surprised to find that the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn in Indy is a great venue. Outdoor hilled amphitheater that gives all attendees free chairs if they'd like. Right on the river, pretty chill I must say. (Even if the name is terrible, which Mac and his band pointed out a few times)
Mac was great. This was my first time seeing him and the songs all sounded fantastic. Not to mention the 10 minute Neil Cicierga-esque cover of Vanessa Carlton was a show stopper. A lot of fun, and I wished he played longer.
Flaming Lips were their usual Lips selves, though I have to admit I was a tiny bit underwhelmed. The setlist was mostly greatest hits and the inflatable rainbow and robot didn't compare to the old days of the space ship or the electric podium from their "Terror" tour. It was obviously a good time. But my expectations are high for a Flips show. Dare I say that after 30 odd years, they might be going through the motions? That being said, The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, Race for the Prize, Spoonful Weighs a Ton, Do You Realize and their cover of Space Oddity were all extremely fun.
Overall, it was well worth the price of admission. Most fun I've had on a Tuesday night in a while.
Big Thief are absolutely amazing live. Watching them gave me flashbacks to pre-breakthrough War on Drugs and Future Islands shows where you just KNEW the bands were on the cusp of blowing up. I mean goddamn, the theatrics Adrianne was pulling off on her guitar while pushing her voice to the limits singing those stunning lyrics was just incredible to behold.
I have no idea what voodoo rolodex magic damon albarn used to get little simz, de la soul, and jehnny beth to appear along with the usual suspects at a venue roughly the size of a large high school basketball court in minnesota on a wednesday night, but I'm glad he used it.

Maaaaan I hope he brings De La Soul at III Points.

I might not even get to go tomorrow
I'm anxious that my ride to KC bailed on me.
Could you not take a bus or something? (obviously thats not as much fun, I just remember knowing people at KSU who would travel back and forth to COMO without having a car)
Anyone seen King Gizzard this tour? Seeing them (finally) for the first time in NOLA next week. Not feeling the Murder of the Universe album as much as the past few albums but I'm sure it'll translate well live.

Well, my ride DIDN'T bail on me, so this is a moot point.
Hopefully this show blows the Chicago show out of the water.

austin show sold out very sad
Ah bummer! Towns like Austin, Denver, SF etc must be rough for tickets most of the time.
NOLA sold out yesterday. They are playing One Eyed Jacks which is not a great place to be for sold out shows. I saw QOTSA there in like 2011-ish and they oversold it to the point where people couldn't even fit in the room and were stuck in the front bar area. I would be pissed! Gonna get there early and post up.

You might already know this but King Gizz put out another album after Murder of the Universe that you might like more, called Sketches Of Brunswick East. No idea what they're playing on this tour with the shit load of music they've put out recently.

It's a festival set, but King Gizzard will be live-streamed from Audiotree in Kalamazoo this weekend. I'm about to put the entire schedule up on the webcast thread, but King Gizzard plays 9:30pm Eastern tomorrow night via CoS Facebook. More information here:

Arcade Fire was a fun time Thursday night. Surprised with A) Wolf Parade opened for the show but literally only played 5 songs and B) it was not well-attended - 70% full is generous. Makes you wonder what the crowd would be like for Halsey (saw they were advertising that show while around the arena). Tough location being consider an Atlanta arena but 35 mins away from the downtown area.
Arcade Fire was well worth the trip though. All the plays on Everything Now was a bit annoying, but a great live band who really run through the whole catalog. They're using a boxing ring style as the stage, and letting everyone that has a floor ticket stand all around it...which it made easy to get as close as you would want.
Do you know if mercury will have uk game on tv behind the bar before the show starts? I remember them having closed circuit feed of stage at last show I went to there but didn't recall what was happening with it beforehand.

No idea man. I'd say probably but dont know. 4th street live is only a five minute walk. You could probably hang there til at least 8:30 considering theres an opener
If King Gizzard is coming to a city near you and you're holding off on buying tickets because you think they'll play too much of the newest album, don't. They only played two songs from it at the very end, and it didn't feel out of place or change the pace of the show. Get those mothafucking tickets and let them rock your socks off.
The Fleet Foxes/Beach House Red Rocks show has been sold out for months but I just checked stubhub and got a ticket for $37 so that's where I'll be tomorrow!
