Given budget/timing realities, it looks like I can probably drive up to see either Caribou or Soulwax in Chicago next year. Any advice on which I should pick? Leaning Caribou rn since it's on a Friday instead of a Tuesday

Pick whatever band's music you connect the most with.

also keep in mind that Caribou is at the Riviera, which, as a reminder, blows

Oof why is that? Keep seeing good artists getting booked there.

Terrible sightlines pretty much everywhere throughout the venue, with an overhanging balcony that doesn’t help much if you’re on the first floor. It’s booked by Jam Productions so you are right that consistently good bands come through lol
I would have agreed with this five years ago, but now the main thing I hate about the Aragon is the fact that it’s Live Nation so drinks cost roughly $300 each.

Saw David Byrne’s American Utopia last night. It’s really good! And the theatre setting makes it really intimate. We were in the back of the second level and the seats were still great.
Anyone who has the ability to check it out should try to. I think they have discount ticket offers day of too.

I was jonesing for a show at the beginning of the week and went and saw Illiterate Light here in Philly. I went because on record I was getting Dr. Dog vibes which is always good IMO, but live it almost crosses over into Royal Blood Territory. Two guys who pummel you with a wall of sound. One dude plays Guitar and a Moog Taurus. And the other guy plays this weird stand up drum kit. It was a weird show but ultimately very entertaining. If you can check them out I recommend it I think I paid $14 total for the ticket.

We saw 2manydjs & Fatboy Slim on Friday. At one point I was so hot and sweaty I had to sit down bc I was getting lightheaded. But it was a great show. So many middle aged ravers living their best life.
I saw Bodega last night, who were fine, but I would like to say their side project opener The Wants were incredible. The recorded version of this sounds fine, but I can’t remember the last time an opening act immediately transfixed an audience when they went into this song:
The Strokes Bernie Rally. Fucking insane in all the right ways.
Were you on the floor? Crowd looked nuts from the livestream.
Yeah. A couple friends and i got there at like 130 and we were 2nd row in the dead middle of the floor but once they went on, the mosh shook everything up.
Cap'n Mac and I went to the Bushfire Relief concert yesterday where Queen performed. Apparently it was the first time they've ever done the Live Aid setlist since Live Aid. So that was pretty cool.
I saw Telepopmusik tonight and they were very good but I am also now deeply fascinated by the fact that for 90% of their songs the live instrumentation was bass guitar and theremin??

Saw Sturgill and Tyler last weekend. We misjudged the start time so we probably missed like half of Tyler's show. What we did see was probably one of the best opening sets and best country sets I've ever seen. Sturgill is a straight up rock show. I don't believe most of his fans really get into him playing the entire new album the first half of the show. I enjoyed all of it but the 2nd half was definitely more fun.

March 9th. It’s almost been a year. Fs. Robbed.
I’m getting the itch. We’ll be going to something soon.
February 13th marked the 1 year mark since my last show. I occasionally load up the timeline in my sig line just to reflect on how wrong it looks to have nothing there the past 12 months. (zoom out a couple times to get the full effect)
