Not sure if it is any different than past years or my palate is receiveing it differently but this years batch of DFH Aprihop is absolutely outstanding. A hoppy, 7% pale ale and for those who dont like the aftertaste of a hoppy beer, the hint of Apricot offsets it and creates a finish that is crisp. Not sweet like #9, not overly hopped up to the point you dont want it on an 80 degree day. Ive had it each year but for some reason this year I am really all over it. Was fantastic with the grilled fish tacos we made and a great first sip following the shot of brandy before dinner.
It supposedly started getting distributed the 15th, but I didn't find any until yesterday. It's getting pretty widely distributed though, so you shouldn't have to look too hard. For reference, I saw it quoted that they're brewing an amount similar to what Jack's Abbey brew, so that would seem to be a good indicator of how hard it will be to find (aka not very hard in time). Idk what your point of reference is, but I've heard from people that it's at a lot of places in Allston/Brighton.
Here are my general impressions, but I'll put it in a spoiler if you don't want your first taste to be conditions by what I thought.
Beyond the experience of drinking a mythic Trappist beer that was made in MA (which, granted, is really awesome) it basically tastes like any abbey ale made by non-Trappists. I'm pretty disappointed to be frank. Some of my friends think it's really good though. I'm hoping it gets around on draft and would be better there. It was definitely worth the admittedly steep cost to try it though.
I hadn't been venturing into liquor stores much lately, until a few days ago. I've seen a few packies just across the state line which carry the Spencer Trappist. Cheapest I seen was $16 for a four pack or $5 for a single 330 mL, which seems steep. But I am curious to try it.
I went to a large and notable liquor store near-ish Boston/Worcester today. Was going to pick up a six pack of a kolsch, and found the Kentucky Kolsch.
Instead I then see a sampling table of Peak Organic. Left with a six pack of their dry hopped pilsner - and then a Troegs variety pack, since that was the monthly special.
So much for the kolsch...

Had a beer flight today of oskar blues (rare way out west Here) and the had dale's in both standard and on nitro. Holy shit the nitro was so good. I love dales, but this tasted like a totally different beer. Very crisp, hops were more subdued but the flavor lingered in the after taste more..clearly? I dont know how to describe it. My wife doesn't like pale ales but liked the dales nitro. Ive had nitro before, but never in a direct side by side comparison. it was excellent.
Last year I brought down some Sun King from Indiana and some Keeweenah from Michigan. Both were available in cans. My question is this--does anyone know of any good canned beer in Kentucky or Tennessee that I could do this year? And thanks for the heads up Inforoo on Tennessee's low alcohol beers at groceries/gas stations. I am willing to find a liquor store if anyone has recommendations. Otherwise I'll do Michigan/Indiana again and supplement variety at Brooers tent again. Thank you in advance for advice!
West Sixth, from Lexington KY, has a great IPA in a can. I love IPA's and this is one of my favorites.
Thanks, this is pretty great. There one awesome bar in BKK that has a beer selection that blows most places in America out of the water. Sadly it's expensive as shit, and I only make it to BKK about once a month or so.
In my town my only option that isn't Asian crap beer is Hoeegarden, which is good but again, expensive as hell. I lucked out when I managed to snack a case of Beerlao on my recent vacation.
While I love pumpkin beers I find it weird that I've been able to buy them since mid-July. And again, I love drinkin' 'em, but it is not the season! And from what I've heard here in Raleigh is that we won't actually have much pumpkin beer in stock come Sept-Nov.
This all reminds me I need to track down some Pumpking stat before it's all gone!

Man, I would do horrible things to get my hands on Pumking or Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. But I agree, it's a bit too early for me. Can't fully enjoy it till September at the earliest, but more realistically I wait till Oct.

I was so sad not to find Sweetwater Blue at Roo this year, but FYI I found it while on vacation in South Carolina at Lowe's. Was a decent beach beer, but everything tastes better at Roo!

They have their own festival once a year if you're near Atlanta in April. But agreed on the 'Roo sentiment. A good beer at sunset does wonders for the soul.
EDIT: Sorry for the quadruple posting. I think I deleted all the copies.

I was a bit surprised by its absence this year as well. We've had it on draft at work since July though.
Anyone that lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton area should try this out. it's made with real watermelons so it is a natural taste that is not too sweet. It's perfect for this time of the year.
Normally I don't drink IPAs, but I happened to pick up a six pack of this before going to a party. It's got plenty of hops, but it doesn't have the stiff bitter taste of a West Coast IPA. I'm tempted to crack one of them right about now.

I have never seen that one before. I am always intrigued by beers I haven't crossed paths with. Also, good to see this thread still going.
I've been spendin' stupid amounts of money on craft beer since the wave of pumpkin stuff was released in the fall. I'm super happy that Terrapin turned their Liquid Bliss into a year round instead of limited seasonal! And I'll be joinin' my local beer shops beer of the month club in January. I am spoilin' myself.
Continued my love affair with Broken Tooth Brew Co. and their Fairweather IPA tonight. Thank goodness they can this stuff, it deserves to go to Roo 2015!
Oh happy day! Randomly stopped at World Market today and they had six bottles of Sothern Tier's Warlock on the shelf! I haven't seen bottles since early/mid October. So I splurged and bought three, but I think I'm gonna give my coworker one of them.
Having an incredibly awesome travel through Pac NW IPAs tonight. Got to sample Tricerahops Double IPA by Ninkasi Brewing out of Oregon, now immensely enjoying the Space Dust IPA by Elysian from Seattle. I've found most of my favorite Alaska brews and am now working my way down the coast. Anybody have any other Pacific NW brews I need to add to my repertoire? I'm open to anything, but am not as fond of Reds, or stouts with lots of coffee notes; favorites are IPAs, APA's and Pilsners
