I wish the pumpkin beer thing would just die already.
You're wrong and I feel sorry for you.
Haha no but I actually did come here to post that I just bought my first pumpkin six pack of the hey-it-is-almost-autumn season, and I am pretty excited about it. Sipping one now.
You know that any pumpkin beer you're drinking before Halloween was made using pumpkins harvested last fall and frozen until now, right?

Nice. Pumpkin beers got ruined for me by the girlfriend. She told me they had been ruined for her by a co-worker who said they all taste like A1 a little. I haven't been able to disassociate that idea yet.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Been enjoying Boulevard offerings this week. Grainstorm Rye IPA, followed by Love Child #5 sour wild ale, and today picked up a growler of their Pop-Up Session IPA. Tasty.
That Love Child was really quite good. I need to find the other kids and give them a try, too.
We have a small brewery in town called Able Ebeneezer. Their main IPA is so incredible. I'm moving into Harpoon, Long Trail, and Red Hook. While everyone is obsessing over Not Your Fathers Root Beer, someone has to clear the shelves of the other stuff.
Also I tried Allagash White last month and was very dissapointed. For a Belgian White, I was expecting quality for a Maine beer that's $11/4 pack. Blue Moon is the generic choice but for $12/12 pack I'll stick with it for now.
I'm not sure there are any Belgian Whites that I find satisfying. If you really want to explore Belgians, you should purchase a Duvel (Belgian Ale).
Edit: Pour it slowly and make sure not to have more than 2 unless you want to get trashed.
Agreed, Belgian Whites are weaksauce and just plain not very good. Trappist beers hold a special part of my heart, although I'm more a Chimary girl than Duvel when it comes to the big name ones. My favorite is Bornem, which I found on the bottom shelf covered in dust at my local beer mega-store. I don't know why more people don't know about it, maybe because they don't push their product into restaurants and bars the way other trappist beers do (like Duvel and Chimay). Either way both their tripel and dubbel are friggin amazing.
I didn't mention it earlier, but Foothills Brewery released their Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout (Bourbon Barrel Aged) last week. I picked up 8 bottles. They only offer it on draft in the restaurant and tasting room (bottles are gone). If you find yourself in Winston-Salem, or just passing through, it's worth stopping in to see if they still have it on tap. It is glorious.

Both The Bruery and Barley Forge were legit.
We both got one of the smoked bourbon barrel aged brews at The Bruery, and neither of us cared for it. I understand intensity, but the smoke overwhelmed everything else in mine. Everything else we had there was good. We both especially liked their Autumn Maple. With pumpkin beers trending so hard as every breweries default fall beer, it was nice to go somewhere that has done a different one. It was a yam beer with maple in it. Great stuff.
Barley Forge was good as well. We didn't go for the flights there because it was Friday evening and it was packed. Neither of us felt like holding our trays while trying to drink them. I had their horchata witbier which was good and their Black Dahlia which did not taste like it was 11% abv. She stayed with the IPA which she said was good.
I think at least Beechwood BBQ is on the schedule today since we'll be in Long Beach. I am also generally intrigued by non Southern BBQ. I just wonder what's going to be different.

I so wanted to get out to Foothills to try and grab a bottle or two, but alas I had to work all weekend at both jobs. I've jealously been lookin' at peoples Facebook photos. I still have my standard bottle in my closet to look forward too...

I have seven remaining. Let me know if you want one set aside. I don't know when we will cross paths, but I'm willing to help out a fellow 'roovian.

I'll PM you tomorrow when I get home from vacation and mayhaps we can work somethin' out. 'Cause I just might love you forever.
Last day at the beach and I've gone through most of the last of my summer beers. Finally drank the delicious Strawberry Picnic from Nashville, TN thanks again to JHOinTN!

We were able to go to Beachwood BBQ and Ocean Avenue Brewery on Saturday. The beer and food at Beachwood BBQ were both great. I had come prepared to hate on the food because BBQ in California, but they make a fine brisket. I also appreciated that they had guest beers from other local breweries in addition to their own. We stuck with theirs, but it's a good gesture on their part. Ocean Avenue was more of a spur of the moment trip because we happened to be in Laguna Beach right by it. It was okay. Nothing special to write about it. Special thanks to black bush for giving me a recommendation for Bootlegger's. We weren't able to fit it into this trip, but she may head there this weekend when her best friend flies out to see her, or I might get it next time.

Got to try the Brand New/Ommegang collaborative beer last night (Take Forever Ale). It was really nice and refreshing in the heat. I hope it becomes something real and gets released. Thought it would have been a little more hop heavy since it's a test IPA but it was mild and sessionable.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.
I think I saw that on Beer Advocates Top 250 Beers. Man I had to get somewhere around 190-210 I think before I found a beer I have had, and I consider myself a bit of a snob.

I was intrigued by your post so I went and checked the list to see how many I've had. I've tried 11 of the top 100 so not too bad. A fair amount of those beers are available in North Carolina. You should give them a try, particularly the Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout which is excellent. Same for Rochefort 10.

Oh yeah some are available here if you're lucky enough to get your hands on it. That Founders KBS sold out in my market within hours. And most of these beers come out on Tuesdays in the mornin' when I'm tendin' bar.
But I'm gettin' more into the scene and now know a couple people I can depend on or make good trades with.

So how was it?
Good stuff I have had it before, I just looked at that list I have had 5 on the top ten this year, but me and my friends get a little crazy about our rare beers. This one a friend brought me from Houston, she is a huge Texans fan and is out of town every weekend, and usually picks me up a little something. I have a few Heady Toppers a friend sent me the other day that are next.

The owner of my local bottle shop lovvves Heady Topper and I've only heard great things 'bout it from others!
So anyone in CO, especially in the Fort Collins area? There's a beer I simply simply must have. From Black Bottle Brewery comes Cerealiously, a milk stout with Count Chocula cereal added in. I'm not normally a milk stout guy, but that was one of my favorite childhood cereals!

If I can get it for you in Boulder/Nederland or Denver I will. I am heading up for The Great American Beer Fest in a few weeks then off to Nederland for some hiking. I am toying with rather or not to go to the rare beer fest on Friday as well it looks amazing.

Heading to San Diego next weekend. The itinerary includes Left Coast, Artifex, Acoustic Ales, Coronado and Ballast Point. I'll let you know what we thought of the ones we make it to.
