NO!!! but be careful not to leave anything in plain sight b/c they will look around through the windows until they find something, and then they have probable cause. My lil sister got searched over a sandwich bag last summer.

I was thinking today, hopefully with my "God Bless America" tag (my mom picked that one out) and my sorority license plate holder, we won't get pulled over. But since we won't have to worry about searches, I might just paint up my car anyway! Nothing wrong with a diversion

As a preventive measure for being pulled over, how does the law read concerning merging/moving into the left lane for a stopped emergency vehicle on a two lane road? Do you slow down to a crawl or what??

Last year I took the bushy branch entrance and followed a sign that said bonnaroo traffic exit here. It was not the police check point. This sign also did not flash.
just slow down at least 20 mph below speed limit. If you can't move over when police have pulled someone over. Or might as well do it whenever you see one period. it lets them know you see them and can control your vehicle.

If you enter Bonnaroo on foot (for example, walking in from the bus station), do you still get searched? And if you do, can you choose not to consent and still be allowed to enter?
last year leaving.. everyone i saw pulled over still had the "X" on there car. its like we are marked when we leave. they just have to look for it. we pulled over and washed it off, and felt a lot safer. just a thought..

So, the whole gist of things is, don't do anything you SHOULDN'T be doing while operating a vehicle, and you'll most likely be fine. I think I can handle that, lol
yeah i am serious, we saw at least three cars pulled over, and only one i can remember there being search dogs, but all had the "X" and circle on the windshield. better safe than sorry. my advice would just be to follow all driving laws. DO NOT SPEED, and pack" things" very well! we have driven 5 hours home safe every year

The problem with not allowing the police consent to search your car is that the policeman will then become suspicious and call a K-9 unit. Then the dog smells whatever is in your car, alerts to it and then the police have probable cause to search. It's a catch-22, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Whose to say that these dogs aren't trained to alert whether there are drugs or not just to provide the cops with probable cause.
In my opinion, and take it for what its worth, it's best to keep a poker face, bluff 'em and tell them it's OK to search, at least then you have a chance that they may think you would never allow them consent if you actually had drugs and let you go away not wanting to waste time on a fruitless search. But if you refuse to let them search that's as good as an admition of guilt to them.
It's a hard one to call, I wouldn't want to tell you what route to take, just throwing this out there.
anyone ever get there car searched hardcore? like for example in my car the cup holders pop out so that you can get to the emergency brake wires, anyone see them poppin shiz off and searchin behind?
As your attorney I advise you to drive at top speed and it'll be a Goddamn miracle if we get there before you turn into some kind of wild animal. Are you ready for that? Checking into a Las Vegas hotel under a phony name with the intent to commit capital fraud with a head full of acid? I certainly hope so...

all you have to do is ride clean, drive the limit, and wait till the roo to party. everything you want is on the inside. you shouldnt risk the best time of your year on the way down. giddyup

In case there's still a question about this, Tennessee law states that as long as one person engaged in the conversation knows that they are being recorded, it is legal. So, as long as you know you're recording the exchange, then it's admissible in court if it comes to that.
This is mostly a measure to put penalties on recording other peoples' conversations or wiretapping. It's a useful law to know for journalists (or journalism students for that matter), but be aware that the law is different in every state.

It's a matter of risk -vs- reward.
For some people, the reward outweighs the risk, and a good portion of those people make it through the gates.
I posted this last year, but it's a handy illustration of how to behave in encounters with law enforcement regardless of whether you are possessing any illicit substances or not.

If you have something to hide, the cops are already not your friends, there is no reason to consent for a search if they are going to find something anyway. You have to decide how effective your hiding place is, for example: Glove compartment or backpack, not effective, resting snugly where the gold bond will be resting soon, let him search the car. Something to keep in mind is that Dogs can't search people, they could freak out and bite them or something. Find someplace on your body that can't be found with a thorough patdown and an emptying of the pockets
The graphic I posted above highlights this, but DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH without a warrant. They'll have to try and prove "probable cause", which, so long as you're not being very blatant and stay respectful and aware, is very hard to do. They'll try to bully you into consenting to a search, but remember to keep calm and keep asking if you're free to go or if you can contact your lawyer. Cops know the laws and are supposed to enforce them; when they realize you know the laws too, they're likely to let you go with "a warning" and move on to easier targets.

^^from what i got last year, the cars that got searched (and possibly had something confiscated) got an X. our friends who were in a van got searched and had some fireworks taken away - we got a smiley face, and they did not search our car...so my guess is it's to let security know who got searched and who didn't. that's my take, but i'm not positive.

the "X" was put on the windshield with white shoe polish...after you go through and get searched... this happens when you wait in line to give them your ticket.. it doesn't mean anything was taken, just that they have searched your car. they marked my car both years, and i didn't have anything. the searched only consisted of me opening my trunk and them closing it. I think they are just looking for extra people in the cars. i have seen other markings, but i think its just the people getting bored. Hope that clears things up! Sorry for the confusion!!

Just don't consent to a search. I can't stress this enough, and neither can anyone else. DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH UNLESS THEY HAVE PROBABLE CAUSE OR A WARRANT!
